A somewhat pleasant surprise happened after I placed the clipped leaflet in water. A florescent bulb in a lamp on the counter mimicked enough sunlight spectrum to make roots after a week. This is three weeks. I had no clue basil would do that.
Time to put in seed starting mix! Gonna miss my basil martini tho... |

Pruning Basil to keep from getting 'leggy'
from the top down, see the second 'joint' of branched leaflets?
Pinch (or cut) the stem just above that joint
Stick the pinched leaflet in a glass of water on the counter for basil harvesting for a few days.

JrzyTmata wrote: very nice! how big is your yard? it looks huge how big is the garden plot?
This is a plot a farmer lets me grow out on about 15 miles from home. It is roughly about 110 x 40
They tilled a slightly larger area than the google map from last year shows.
Each row will have ~66 tomato plants with the exception of the right hand row. The first ~15 feet of that row is in the root zone of a walnut tree so I will put something else in that wont be bothered. I dug 304 holes total.
I got in some before it got dark.
Home for tomatoes is ~45x50. There is also an area of other things about 45 x 20.
I am way behind on planting. Serious storms producing golf ball size hailed, tornadoes and high winds are again on the way so I am just keeping everything covered until it passes.
