Great speech by Gary Johnson over the weekend. I'm really liking this guy.

hippiechick wrote: The 24 straw men, gotta love it!! Most of the above is a caricature of paleoconvervativism, not libertarianism. In reality, "hippie," people are attracted to the libertarian side for all kinds of reasons. A large portion — including myself — are socially liberal first, economically conservative second. I strongly feel that the Democratic party is not socially liberal enough. It is not antiwar enough and it is does not promote civil liberties enough. I don't trust the Democrats to prevent war or protect civil liberties for one second! And almost no Democrats ever talk about legalizing marijuana or reducing incarceration of nonviolent drug "offenders." They are just as enamored with police powers as the GOP, and in many cases are beholden to police and prison guard unions who lobby for more jails, less police accountability for brutality, and more arrests. Libertarians offer the best chance to improve those issues, not the Democrats. But if you want "hippies" to keep being brutalized by cops, thrown in jail for nonviolent drug offenses, and shipped off to war, then by all means keep voting Democrat, hippiechick!! And by the way, I can't stand Ayn Rand, and she hated libertarians. So stop associating her with libertarians, she was a war and military promoter, that's not a libertarian idea! Look at the Libertarian Party's own nominee — Gary Johnson — and you will see that he supports gay marriage, is pro choice, and is pro-immigrant. A lot more than a lot of Democrats can say for themselves.
