Lyndra_Ski wrote:Wait, people, punk wasn't even invented until 1975, when Sid Vicious (not his real name of course) walked into a clothing store on Kings Road owned by Malcom McCleran (spelling is wrong,) wearing a Pink Floyed t-shirt, with the name crossed out with a black magic marker. They got to talking, Malcom and the pre-Sid Vicious, and agreed corporate rock sucked and something must be done about it so they formed the Sex Pistols.

ThirdRail_33 opines on Robert Plant / Alison Kraus: Peanut butter and pizza. I like them both, alot. But mixed together, - I'm not so sure of that. Same thing with this CD. Love AKUS and LedZep, but this effort between Allison and Robert is just OK. Not bad. Not great. Just OK.
So, can I have a slice with extra chunky?

from fredriley about Tom Petty-time to move on
It's time to move on, it's time to get goin', it's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to meet the muppets on the Muppet Show tonight...
Something about this song makes me reach for the mute at some speed, even though I like some of Petty's other stuff :( ...HAHA!... |

I came late to the Joy Division party. In 1984, I was 18 years old. Ian Curtis had been gone for several years, and New Order was the order of the day. I was drawn to their mystique of despair; the dark side of rock that makes us so fascinated with it's dead stars. I collected all of their vinyl. When CDs came out, I bought those too. New Order was popular, but not exactly cool. Joy Division was cool. I felt I was cool for knowing about them.
With the passage of time, I've come to appreciate them musically in a way I couldn't have possibly understood back then. Yes, this is their best song. It fits right in today with a whole current generation of music that owes its roots to that prior generation. The drums, the synthesizers, the lyrics, the vocals, all seem stripped to the bare minimum, yet come across more layered and nuanced than much "richer" productions of that time or this. This song doesn't take me back, it shows me the way forward.
Please to backscroll to post No. 1 thank you
