2. Due to the sweet deal we have with Shoutcast, it doesn't cost any more for you to listen at 128k (though that may change at some point).
3. Yes. We get a commission on anything you buy: new, used, CDs, DVDs, computers, clothing, refrigerators, whatever.

Some questions:
What is the highest quality sound stream that RP offers? (I use the 128 MP3 RealPlayer myself)
Do the lower speed transmissons help lower costs for RP? (ie why offer them? Are they for dial-up folks?)
Does RP get a commission when I buy a USED cd from Amazon.com ?

Hmm.

I'm hearing distortion.

I heard it in the Nat King Cole song (around 9:35cst), and I heard it earlier in one of Bill's station promos. Sounds like a low frequency burbling. Is it just me? We know I haven't been drinking...

I'll second that. I'm listening to the 128k on Winamp at work with desktop speakers and Radiohead's Go To Sleep and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's In Like The Rose have just played. They're good test records for stereo imaging and dynamic range and they sound better than ever

Thanky.

Tried to do that, but the cranky forum code wouldn't let me.

So I'll say it clearly here - not tonight (Tues 1/25). *Maybe* a brief outage tomorrow night (Wed 1/26).

Our peak levels are right at 100%. We can't be any louder without distortion or the kind of very aggressive processing (squeezing all of the dynamic range out of the music) that FM stations & some pop/dance webcasters use.

RP sounds really good, thanks again for your efforts Bill!

Just a while ago RP was playing Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up, one of my favorites that I know by heart, and the sound was just a pleasure to listen to.

(I think RP has a good volume level, actually it's louder than my mp3s ripped from CDs, since I adjust albums to average 92dB level. IMO those aggressively compressed FM stations are really annoying to listen to.)

It also gets cut off in the Shoutcast & Winamp station directories. I'll be shortening it so that it falls within the limit there. I suspect that the limit is actually happening on the Shoutcast server(s) - in which case that would take care of the iTunes issue as well.

Thanks for that little attention to detail. I had to have a discussion with another iNet Radio jock about his distorted/over processed stream. The conversation worked -- to a degree...

I'd prefer to turn it up because it sounds so good, rather than down because it sounds so bad. Any day.
