Bloody good brewery up there as well, Orkney Brewery. When I went to their website to get the link I saw that their serious beer, Skullsplitter, is being launched in the US, with a launch party in Philly next week. So I'll just be off spread the news.....

alright then....thanks!

Islay is part of the Western Isles, along with Jura, Skye and the rest, so bashed by the Atlantic and all a bit hairy and salty.

The Highland malts are soft water, highland flowers and heather, but a hefty backbone.

Speyside. Hmm. Posh. Salmon fishing and Royal castles. Well-crafted, respectable and renowned.

But don't take my word for it....go forth and drink!

Aberlour! That's the one you've talked about in the past. Nope, it's a Speyside, so much more genteel than the Islay hooligans.

Ardbeg is as polite as Islays get, but still....

An interesting bridge between the Islay and Speyside styles is Old Pulteney, from Wick, way up near John O'Groats. Smooth yet with an iodine tang. Oh, and I got the MD of the distillery so drunk in the pub one night, he fell off his stool. England 1, Scotland 0.
