Try scrubbing the contacts where the batteries go in. Might not even be getting juice.
Then go get the wireless one with a scroll ball whatzit.
(edit)
And can you "Set Up" a new bluetooth device (in the keyboards/mouse control) and see if it sees it? I'll try that. I was looking for an excuse to buy the new wireless mighty mouse anyway...
Scott, I have tried the set up a new device and that doesn't work either. |

I haven't found any useful information online yet and I thought posting here might get me a faster answer anyway. Thanks!
Is there a reset button on it?
and I'm sure you found the FAQs with gems like
8) Check for Signal Spoilers
Because Bluetooth works by transmitting signals through the air, some things can interfere with connections. Avoid situations in which metal objects come between your device and computer. Don't put your computer under a metal desk or locked away behind a metal cabinet. Keep cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other electrical devices that operate on a 2.4 GHz bandwidth away. And make sure that your device and computer aren't more than 30 feet apart from each other. |

The first thing that I'd do is locate %WINDIR%\ShellIconCache and delete it. Then reboot and see if it makes any difference. For most people, their %WINDIR% is C:\WINNT BTW.
If the problem persists, I start looking for shell extensions, that are the most likely source of such a problem. The safe way to do this is by using AutoRuns from SysInternals, or a similar utility that targets specific, relevant parts of the Registry. Alternately, you might try uninstalling any software that was installed just prior to the first occurrence of the problem.
Beyond that, skilled troubleshooting is called for. If you've been running the same Windows installation for more than a year, you might consider backing up your data and doing a "bare metal" reinstall of Windows and applications. Over time any computer will build up "cruft", or unwanted files and/or Registry entries in the case of Windows. With Windows it's nearly impossible to find and eliminate cruft. And the time spent doing so is better spent IMHO just throwing it all out (except data!) and starting anew.

What OS? All I can sugest is that some files have been corupted somewhere...i can find out more if I know what OS...but somewhere there is prolly a system file with the templates for the document icons on. That file has been damaged/deleted. Duno how to go about fixing it other than an OS re-instal...but if you are windows I think its quite easy to manipulate. |

Everything out of YouTube is embedded Flash. So you could go to the Macromedia Flash site and see if the demos there work for you. |

My Picasa and RealPlayer connections apparently depend on IE, so I can't send pix via Picasa, nor get album info on Real because of the IE screw up.
Tried telling Norton to let it run, and it shows it runs. Tech guy at Linksys said to uninstall it and reinstall it. (this following a crash of my home wireless network...)
Any ideas out there?
