Proclivities
There are always a few such people who demand the utmost of life and yet cannot come to terms with its stupidity and crudeness.

As for determining good design from poor design, see typeface usages: Papyrus and Comic Sans.
I've met several people who are paid to be "graphic designers" who have never studied art or design in any depth - they're essentially software users. NTTAWWT

Designers are the secretaries of the 21st century.
unfortunately it seems that for graphic designers the field has grown exponentially
web hosting and blog templates, and sites like 99designs etc have crowd sourced the hell out of the lower end of it
i'm sure there's still a high end niche for gaming or certain applications, clients, etc

if it's properly structured and incentivised , voluntary collaboration (crowd sourcing) is the most powerful problem solving and innovative force on the planet
imho
indeed, and yet, reality; which brings us back to reality TV...many folks can't seem to turn off their devices long enough to listen to themselves think.
somewhat less obtusely, I must say that that I believe in the prevailing wisdom of still small voices...
the irony of the internet; sourcing the future by destroying the sourced integrity of the past...

Yeah, at least they're slightly less mythical than Bigfoot.

You forgot "Surfing the web to see what idea you can steal."
The Discovery Channel should do a reality show featuring graphic designers. Wouldn't that be fascinating?

I'm looking for someone to help me design a simple logo in photoshop. Will pay $60/ hour for what will probably be pretty easy. Silver writing and a three dimensional color spectrum of light. I'll describe in more detail when you contact me. I need this to be done by midnight tonight. Please send a link of your work.

Logo Creation (concord / pleasant hill / martinez)
We need students to create several logo projects. Student must use Adobe Creative Suite to produce design collateral.
Please, contact us for details. There may be several changes during the design process. If your logo is selected it will be used for our website and we will pay you $25.00 for the final logo.
Good luck!

Got a new computer at work. File transfer went well, except Adobe Acrobat Pro (CS5) gave an error :
Adobe Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Adobe Acrobat, please start another component of this suite (such as Adobe Photoshop).
So I had PS, ID, BR all launched. Turns out this is a CS4 error, so I had to launch Photoshop CS4. That made Acrobat happy, and now I can launch it without having anything else launched at the same time.

By the way, it's a Mac Mini with a 256GB SSD. Good god that's fast.
