Last night, I watched Frank Capra's 1933 version of "Apple Annie." Aside from a remarkable character film, the lead character was a handsome, yet slightly 'underworld' type named "Dave, The Dude." Hearing folks in 1930's garb calling a character "Dude" while thinking of the Big Lebowski was weird, but cool.

Yea I have seen some of those; I watch them for awhile to practice my Spanish! {#Lol}

For some reason TCM is showing Laurel and Hardy films with Spanish dialogue. They are not dubbed but were actually filmed with L&H speaking thier lines in Spanish. Strange.

Oh and for the non-Spanish speakers there are subtitles.

IMO the dancing/singing are the point of a musical and the dialog is just filler. not being argumentative, just sayin.

i can understand not liking musicals. there are several genres of which i am not a fan.

Last night they were pouring it on with Oscar caliber movies that were really good. The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine, followed by West Side Story.

Interestingly, both get a 93% rating from the critics, and The Apartment gets the same rating from viewers (35K worth) while West Side Story gets only an 82% rating from viewers (150K worth).
