One of the biggest all-time movie flops, John Carter from Mars... it ain't that bad. You kind of have to transport your brain back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' time and watch it with the kind of marvel you do when you watch 20,000 leagues under the sea, etc. It's pretty clear that this movie borrowed from Star Wars a little and I suspect George Lucas borrowed from Burroughs. I say it was worth watching, and held my interest a lot more than, say, Avatar, or Dune.

Having read the Burrough's John Carter books as a kid I was really looking forward to this.

I was disappointed. Though somewhat reflective of the books I just found it difficult to keep my attention focused on the story. Special effects were good but am glad I didn't spend the money too see in the theater..

I don't like Hugh Grant. He plays the same character in every movie.

Maybe he meant  It's a Boy Girl Thing
because that looks pretty lame sauce.

I barely remember this. I saw it a long, long time ago when I was just a sprout. The only thing I remember is it was scary. Possibly the reason it's left an indelible scar on my memories. I really don't remember what it was about... but it involved piano lessons and some kind of phantasmagorical piano teacher.

Another movie that scared me as a kid, and the only memories I have is of an old house and a truck sinking in a garage. It might have been called "The Red House" or something like that.

A lot of these old movies are hard to find. Especially when you can't remember what they were called.

It was written by Dr. Seuss and starred Hans Conried as Dr. Terwilliker.

It sounds like you're describing The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T.  It was shot in very vibrant technicolor.  Not entirely bad, but quite silly and disjointed.  It should have been much, better considering the folks who worked on it.  The little boy was Tommy Rettig, who was the original kid from the Lassie TV show.

Yes, that's it. Totally silly, plot is sketchy at best, but visually fun.

Okay, there's a movie that's not really bad, but it, well, it is very weird. Stars a kid, sorta 'Opie'-looking, who wears a hat with a big blue hand on top for most of the movie. Shot in vibrant colors, probably Technicolor, it is a visual feast. Totally silly, but very well done for what it was.

Anybody know the movie? Title? 'Billy and the Magic Hands' or something like that?

I kinda like bad movies. I like good movies better, but I have a lot of fun with bad movies. I think of them as natural comedy. It didn't go looking for laughs, but there ya go. One of my favorite bad movies is "Bad Taste." It was made as parody, so it might be cheating to call it a bad movie, because it was made to be bad... and guess who made it.

Peter Jackson.  And yeah, that flick is really a lot of fun.

If you liked 'Plan 9' you need to see 'Santa Claus Conquers the Martians'. Pure cinematic genius. Pia Zadora shoulda been nominated...

Saved by The Flying Elvises

That concept was completely stolen from two guys I used to write comedy radio with in college. They wrote a screenplay, hoping to cast Eddie Murphy, about a young black man who is reincarnated Elvis.

His return causes all the Elvis impersonators around the world to travel to his place to kill him. There is a scene in it where a couple of dozen faux Elvii are on a road trip to kill him, and the scene includes all of them standing on the side of the road, back to their cars, draining their bladders.
