Y'know the toughest thing about rescued pooches?  Nine times out of 10, your heartstrings are being plucked because of some other irresponsible pet owner.  Yeah, there's the occasional instance where it's just bad luck, but mostly it's because the puppy wasn't a puppy anymore or the dog got on someone's nerves.  Your cycloptic colleague will find a new buddy to receive tummy rubs from before too long. 
 
I caught myself thinking "Huh. A nine-year-old pug...that's an old dog." Then it occurred to me that Luci just turned 8.  Her lack-of-muzzle's turned all grey and stuff.  Stoopit dogs.

Yeah that's a tough one.  You really want to help those needy ones.  But, on the other hand there are an awful lot of really great, less needy animals around that deserve a home and you want to be as sure as you can be that you can provide a great home (yes, there are other health issues that can crop up, etc.).  I would never fault anyone for declining to take a dog with health issues and would never fault anyone for calling 'enough' when it is questionable that major medical expenses are in the animal's and your best interests.  There is no black and white with this (or maybe there's both cus we have Dalmatians) so follow your heart.  I have been very happy rescuing older dogs.

I'm sure the right one is out there waiting to find you. 

honestly? i would have done it. it's where beez got Boss recently. anyway, my big thing was that he's on seizure meds, and i'm not sure i could afford the expense. he's awfully cute, and i'm sure he'll find (if he hasn't already, it's been 5 days) an awesome home...but i am not sure i could deal with the expense. and upending my kitteh's home, when i just moved them...it's hard to think about. it wasn't a puppy, so that was a plus. his name is one eye jack. and he's adorable. lord. it's hard to know.

I'll have them for as long as hiccup will put up with 'em. She said "never again" after our Sadie mutt, but then caved when I found Wicket.
 
Poor, defective pugs...Cripes, they're nice dogs.  When we lived down in Southeastern Colorado, hiccup was a tech at a pretty big veterinary hospital.  They had a pug patient there (if I recall, his name was Jake) who was missing both eyes.  He lived with this little old lady in a teensy trailer house and was perfectly content, just as long as he didn't have to venture into unfamiliar territory.

totally what i was thinking! never will i have a terrier again! (terror)
but, beez found me a 9 yr old pug rescue who was ready to be adopted. his name was one eyed jack (he had one eye) and it was so close. he does well with cats. so hard to resist. 

Ahh...a mutt of decidedly terrierish origins.  Trouble with the capital T.
