Here's an exhaustive obit from Variety.

And while reading that, I had a question that apparently a lot of baseball fans have had once they became aware that James Garner was born a Bumgarner: any relation to San Francisco Giants' pitcher Madison Bumgarner? Probably, way way back.

Looks like they are related.  On another note, the principal at my junior high school in Norman was James Garner's brother, although I don't remember him. He also had an uncle who was a maintenance man for the school district.  He looked just like his nephew except he was older and heavier.

An amazing man.  He led the Cleveland Orchestra and kept it on the map under his guidance.  I have a Beethoven's 9th by the Cleveland Orchestra with him conducting.  Very powerful, but austere.  The final movement, Ode to Joy, is technically brilliant, but doesn't leave you with that warm fuzzy feeling that it should.

Still happy for the music he brought to life and the life that he led.

A group of parents fought to have that book removed from our high school curriculum while we were reading it. Fortunately they failed. It gave me a lot of insight to what scares people and how fear forms their reactions. It was a major learning experience.
