No.

{#Smile} You have a 3 gigabyte plan.   A byte of data has 8 bits in it.  In binary a kilo is 1024.  A little b is bits.  A big B is Bytes. If you streamed at 64Kbs (64*1024 bits per second) you would be streaming 64*1024*60seconds = 3932160 bits a minute.  That's (3932160/8) = 491520 bytes per minute - sort of.
The sort of is because the 64kbs rate is only talking about the bits that comprise the music.  In addition to the music bits there are bits that handle all the addressing information that is needed to get that data from Radio Paradise to you.  That has an overhead I'm guessing of about 20% more data.

So instead of 491520 bytes per minute it's about 20% more or 491520*1.2 or 589824 bytes per minute.  Assuming you could use ALL of your plans data just for music that would be 3072 Mb/589824 bytes/minute = 5461 minutes or 91 hours.

If you cut that rate down to 32Kbs then that's 182 hours.  Not bad really.  Look at your past bills and see how much data you've been using in Megabytes.  Add 10% to that number and that's your typical monthly usage.  Subtract that from the 3072MB your're allowed and that's what you have available for streaming.

589824 bytes per minute is .5625 megabytes per minute so you can use that to calculate when using the megabyte number.

For example you have 3072MB: 3072/.5625 megabytes/minute is 5461 minutes.

I've streamed music from my Android Phone at 64kbs to my bluetooth audio system in my car and to be honest it sounds pretty good - it is a noisy car environment after all. The other reason to go with a lower bit rate is that as you drive you will encounter areas that don't support the higher speeds.  If you are always streaming in 3G at a lower bit rate you have less drop-outs.  For instance I have Sprint and the 4G is pretty decent, but there are towns that don't have 4G so I would get drop-outs as the phone switched back and forth between 3G and 4G.

However stunix, if you only have 500MB with your phone plan I wouldn't stream much without monitoring your usage - it will quickly add up as Kruster calculated.

Welcome to RP !!

I don't have an answer of the cost per and that is a really good question.

I'm sure someone will come up with a formula for forecasting the cost or bites per hour of a particular stream rate.

128 kbs x 60 seconds = 7,680 kbs per minute  = 460,800 kbs per hour ?  I get fuzzy on moving the decimal over going from kbs to mbs.  I'm curious myself as sooner or later I will have to make that jump and get a new phone contract.  Or I may do a track phone and pay per month.

Admittedly, I don't have a phone or mobile device I listen to, but all things considered for in a car, just try the lowest bit rate that sounds good.  Then take it up one notch to the next better stream and it should make you smile most of the time.

I guess I'm like many people.  I love RP and its always on when I get the chance, ie the wife is not watching reruns of CSI, SVU, Cold Case etc.

I have an Android smart phone and wondered how much it really works out to stream RP in my car.

Obviously there are lots of variables, but for instance, I get 500Mb as part of my phone deal.

which stream should I listen to and roughly how long could I listen to RP without going over my allocation?
