Tanner got fired after *maybe* 3 weeks. His one job is to watch out the window of the heated shack and make sure no one falls off the lift but he got caught napping (literally laid out on the floor), or huddled around the furnace, or totally abandoned his post and went out boarding and finally got fired when the top manager saw him in the parking lot... knowing his post was *somewhere* on the mountain, not the parking lot. Upon closer inspection, Tanner was smoking a joint and the big boss sent him packin' right there of course. I'd forgotten about all of this because lifties but then the guy I was talking to gave me a little raised eyebrow thing and I cocked my head and he said "out in Clark?" Yeah. The lifty was Tanner Vanpelt, currently going up the river for killing 3 people last weekend. So the (very very small number of) people saying "he was such a good kid, I can't believe it..." Yeah, no. Yikes! |

Update to the article linked below: One of the guys had lived in the area and apparently knew the daughter from that time. Which takes the random factor out of it and makes everyone breathe a little easier. Not that anyone's saying there was something going on, but at least it wasn't a random house they just walked into. These two have spilled their guts about several crimes. |

If you read that article where the guy spots the two long after they should have been out of the area? They got lost, plain and simple. Those roads all look alike and dead end at either the mountains or the river, with only a couple of bridges. Woops. |
