So I was up doing the ski patrol thing today, shootin' the breeze with the lift operator up in the shack and I made a joke about another lifty and said "that's a pretty hard job to get fired from but he's sure trying" and the guy I was talking to said "yeah but you remember Tanner." Tanner got fired after *maybe* 3 weeks. His one job is to watch out the window of the heated shack and make sure no one falls off the lift but he got caught napping (literally laid out on the floor), or huddled around the furnace, or totally abandoned his post and went out boarding and finally got fired when the top manager saw him in the parking lot... knowing his post was *somewhere* on the mountain, not the parking lot. Upon closer inspection, Tanner was smoking a joint and the big boss sent him packin' right there of course. I'd forgotten about all of this because lifties but then the guy I was talking to gave me a little raised eyebrow thing and I cocked my head and he said "out in Clark?"

Yeah. The lifty was Tanner Vanpelt, currently going up the river for killing 3 people last weekend. So the (very very small number of) people saying "he was such a good kid, I can't believe it..." Yeah, no.

No, that's the Truman Capote part. So far it just seems arbitrary. There was some talk that the daughter the nurse had come to Cody the night before so *maybe* they saw her car (Audi — pretty rare around here) and followed her home to steal it.

Update to the article linked below: One of the guys had lived in the area and apparently knew the daughter from that time. Which takes the random factor out of it and makes everyone breathe a little easier. Not that anyone's saying there was something going on, but at least it wasn't a random house they just walked into.

These two have spilled their guts about several crimes.

If you read that article where the guy spots the two long after they should have been out of the area? They got lost, plain and simple. Those roads all look alike and dead end at either the mountains or the river, with only a couple of bridges. Woops.

Hungarian. Which makes sense, they have vacation photos from there... Facebook is weird sometimes how you can snoop but we're going to know everything there is to know about the killers and nothing much about the victims.
