with lots of kids in the family, they were usually hand-me-down skates. but sometimes they didn't fit that season, so I would get a new pair.

Always wanted one, but even if we could have afforded it, my folks' rural, highway-adjacent, gravel-drivewayed home really wouldn't have been a good place to ride one.
