The amp is a relatively new one, still being manufactured. The preamp is a couple of years old and no longer in production, but the manufacturer is still around. I've spoken with both owners of the respective companies, but it's really not their problem to solve. Both devices do what they do. It's up to me to make them play well together.

I'll keep it on a back burner. I've got a friend/owner of an auto/electric company and he might have an idea or two.

I looked for that type of learning type remote and could not find one about a year ago for my solar project.

Is it an old amp? Can you do a google on the Mfg number stamped on the amp?

Or in your mind. {#Lol}  I go through this every time I have an idea I picture in my mind and need implemented.

I hope you can find one cause I got nothing right now.

I can contact them about that, but the remote outlet needs to be a learning type, or I find something that will respond to the proper code, move a switch, and power up the 12v power supply.

Something that's so easy on paper.

Can you google the mfg's schematics/instructions for that amp to see what kind of IR signal frequency is sent, cause this may be a problem even if you find a trigger.

The amp can be configured to switch one of three different ways. 1) With the switch on the front. (one more thing to turn on and off) 2) Auto sensing. (of the signal from the preamp, which I'm currently using but tends to turn itself off during quiet passages in music or  movies) 3) 12v trigger input. Many devices might have a 12v trigger out that would turn this amp on, but my preamp does not have this feature. It does however have ir out, which I believe just repeats what the remote is telling the preamp. So, plug a wire in here and into a remotely switched outlet into which is plugged a 12v wall wart which is plugged into the 12v trigger input, and Bob's your uncle

Yeah, no luck there. No luck with the 12v trigger out either.

Here's something similar to what might work, but it would also need an input from an ir receiver since it would be hidden, and I'd like it to be from a manufacturer and/or retailer I'm familiar with.

Yes, the amp has a 12v trigger input. I want the amp to turn on when I push the remote power button for the preamp. A switched outlet turned on by the remote would work, because I could plug a 12v power supply into this outlet which would trigger the amp. The preamp has an IR out, which could also be wired to a switched outlet (somehow) and do the same thing. I just don't know how to do this or where to find the parts.

Okay, I did go back (three pages!) to your diagram. You are trying to turn on the amp with a remote right?  What I don't get is the 12 trigger. Does your amp have a trigger to turn on with a 12V signal?  Would a switched outlet work as well (easier).

Hm. The preamp has an ir output. Can I somehow use this output to trigger the amp? Can the output flip a switch that powers on an outlet into which a 12v power supply is plugged, sending 12v to the trigger on the amp?
