I know I haven't posted much about this lately, but I just got a phone call from my little soldier and wanted to let y'all know about it! Megan graduated Basic Training at Ft. Jackson some weeks back and was immediately shipped out to the federal OCS program at Ft. Benning. (Thanks again to all of you wonderful RPeeps who helped so much by bombarding her with mail while she was in basic- it was EXTREMELY helpful to her.)

Last week, she blew out her shoulder... huge lump, pain, the whole nine yards. She clearly can't finish OCS until she's healed so she was given a choice: be "recycled" at Benning for 12 more weeks waiting to heal and for the next class to open up, or change her commission to the state level, come home now, and resume state OCS training in March when the next class opening becomes available.

She took option B and is boarding a plane for home this evening. This is both good and bad news for her, and nearly all good news for us. For her, it means that her dream of one day leading troops into battle is essentially ended. But it also means that she gets to come home and pick up her life again, and as a woman with a proto-spouse here in Houston, it excites her a lot to be home again. The good news for her daddy and I is that is it HIGHLY unlikely that she will be shipped overseas into harms' way. It could happen, we always know that's a possibility, but it's far less likely now.
