work stuff

Posted by Skaterella - Aug 3, 2012 - 2:01pm
Today was my first day working at the minimum unit at one of the state psychiatric hospitals.  I'll be there 2 days a month.  The whole thing was kinda creepy.  It's a really big campus.  Most of it is comprised of the psychiatric hospital.  I don't believe its a forensic hospital but I'm not sure.   A lot of my patients have been through that particulat hospital before they ended up in prison.  Its kind of a sad place.

The unit I was on was the minimum prison unit.  In the other prisons I work at I'm in an infirmary.  I'm inside the prison & walk the compound with the inmates,  but there are officers watching. At the place today, the dental office is two cells in the middle of a housing unit that were converted into a dentist office.  I got there before my assistant today so the officer let me in & told me to lock myself inside and not open the door without checking through the peep hole first to make sure it wasn't an inmate.  It was a little creepy.
When I first got there this morning I walked down the wrong hallway and ended up in a housing unit by myself with the inmates ( a lot of them.)   They were kind enough not to kill me , and instead, directed me to the dental clinic.
All in all a weird day.  But at least i wasn't invited for a 72 hour stay (always a possibility.) And I even got a little bit of a promotion too!
