I've been reading about religious origins...

Entertain this thought for just one moment:

"Perhaps religion is an ancient virus. It feeds on spirituality and produces dissent, anger and war. It spreads thought-borne through the vapor of consciousness uncontrolled, and the vaccine is as nebulous as the disease. In the end, the Church becomes it's own antichrist. All religion becomes evil – a condition that becomes apparent only when the tenet reveals itself as monotheistic, requiring dedication to its spread as a condition of absolution, the promise of hell its punishment for non believers.

You can see this virus - It is its nature that its greatest need is to propagate. It needs walls, books and participants to survive. Tangible things.

The infected espouse its existence as evidence of truth.

But, religion is not truth. Instead spirituality, divinity is truth.

It is the nature of truth that truth needs nothing to be perfect.

Truth doesn't require your participation or belief. Truth doesn't promise hell in the event you disagree. It promises nothing. It is not a virus. It just is.

Religion is the result of antropic meddling in the vessel of truth we know as spirituality.

You can feel truth in your heart.

Religion must be taught.

Inoculate – educate – practice real spirituality – meditate and create a universe filled with love instead of religion."

Is that sarcasm?
Or are you agreeing with me.

I'm agreeing with you...Joey Pruett was a childhood friend. When I spent the night at his place, I was always awakened by the scream from his mother..Shit fire Joey Pruett, you gonna sleep all day?

Joey Pruett was a promising athlete, could of played college ball anywhere on the planet and headed for the pro's. Instead he found a fondness for crack cocaine, now he lives in a shed, dying of cancer and his crack addiction.

He recently showed up at my mothers house in Bama and stole some stuff out of yard to go get his fix....

He found his god in a white rock...

Edit: Try the 'Hiram Key' facinating read if you can get by the first 3 chapters without eating your arm off...

Dust in the Eyes

If, as they say, some dust thrown in my eyes
Will keep my talk from getting overwise,
I'm not the one for putting off the proof.
Let it be overwhelming, off a roof
And round a corner, blizzard snow for dust,
And blind me to a standstill if it must.

Robert Frost 1874-1963

I got in trouble at church, I was about 13, and mentioned that (this was a Mormon church) the gospel of Jesus Christ seems so 'viral' that we each become a vector...

crickets, stares, abominable silence... So, I shook it off and continued, but the idea stuck.

Viruses do not just sicken us, they help us rewrite our very DNA, they change our physical nature - inspiration works like that, too - and we pass it on.

I would recommend Dan Simmons' Hyperion/Endymion cycle - it brings this idea home pretty hard.
