Missing Boy from St. Louis Area
Posted: Nov 29, 2010 - 3:57pm
Posting for a close friend/neighbor of a friend:

11/29 @4:06: James R Willman III, or JJ, has been missing from the Woodson Terrace, MO since early Sat. 11/27. He was scheduled to work (Earth City, MO McDonald's) at 4:30 and never called or showed. Last seen 1:30AM on the 27th and has not been seen or returning calls since. This is not normal behavior for him at all & we are very worried. He's about 5' 10 or 11, thin, dirty blonde hair. He drives a teal 95 Buick Regal custom: missing both the side mirrors & large crack on front windshield. Please repost this as we'll take any help we can get. If you hear or see anything please contact his father Jim Willman at 314-604-9049 or his aunt Jan at 314-723-6453. thanks to all that have been helping so far...

A great read! - The Station by Robert J. Hastings
Posted: Dec 28, 2009 - 9:52am
I think most of us are familiar with this philosophy but a reminder never hurts.

THE STATION
By Robert J. Hastings

Tucked away in our subconscious minds is an idyllic vision in which we see ourselves on a long journey that spans an entire continent. We're traveling by train and, from the windows, we drink in the passing scenes of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at crossings, of cattle grazing in distant pastures, of smoke pouring from power plants, of row upon row upon row of cotton and corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of city skylines and village halls.

But uppermost in our conscious minds is our final destination--for at a certain hour and on a given day, our train will finally pull into the Station with bells ringing, flags waving, and bands playing. And once that day comes, so many wonderful dreams will come true. So restlessly, we pace the aisles and count the miles, peering ahead, ...

Ooops, I Did It Again
Posted: Feb 3, 2009 - 6:50pm
...rescued another animal.  As I pulled into my complex after work. I saw a beautiful Siamese cat with a collar and tag on.  I live off a very busy, major highway.  I pulled over in my complex, got out of the car and tried to approach the cat but he ran away and toward the main road.  I walked away because I didn't want to force him into the road.  I pulled around into a parking lot expecting he'd probably end up going through there and he did.  I pulled over again and could tell he wasn't really afraid of me.  I cautiously approached him and crouched down talking in my kitteh voice.  He started meowing at me and coming closer, stopping every once in a while to roll around on the ground.  I was able to pick him up and get him in my car so I could call his owner.  Here's how the conversation went:

Hello?

Hi, are you missing a kitty?

Well, I have an indoor-outdoor cat and ...

Update on Sparkle The Dog
Posted: Dec 14, 2008 - 7:48am
If you haven't read the update to my previous post, the owner finally returned my call 12 hours later...you can read the conversation in that post.

I called animal services yesterday around 1pm and was told that the owners had just been in to claim her.  I told the lady on the phone that the when I had talked to the owner the night before, she seemed appalled that I had taken her dog in and was very ungrateful for the fact that I had saved her dog from possibly getting hit on a busy road.  The woman told me that she had spoken to the owner when she called in the morning and acted the same way toward her.  The animal sevices lady told her that I had tried calling her and did the right thing by bringing her in when I didn't hear back.  The owner said something like, "well, she found her in our neighborhood" and the lady told her, "ok, but the neighborhood is not your property".  She said that there was basically no getting ...

My Morning With Sparkle The Dog (updated)
Posted: Dec 12, 2008 - 4:43pm
I was driving to work this morning and saw a dog on the side of a road that stays pretty busy.  She was trying to cross the street and had a collar on.  I drove by but felt that I should have stopped so I turned around...she had gotten across the street so I sat in my car for a minute to see if she was heading toward a house that may be her home.  Not long after I pulled over, she ran up to my car so I checked her tags and called the number on there and left a message.  Her name is Sparkle; she was so sweet, looks like a border collie, very dirty, collar and tags were dirty and worn so it looked like she's been outside for a long time and it looked like she's had puppies recently.  I waited for a few more minutes, tried the number again, meanwhile, she's made herself comfortable in the back of my car, no one called back so I headed home and called my neighbor to see if they could watch her until the owners called me.  I got in ...

Robert Allen Parker aka My Dad, My Hero

Today is two years since my dad's passing. Last weekend, my mom and I visited his church, which is where this memorial is, along with his ashes.

My dad was a wonderful, old-fashioned gentleman with an honest work ethic and infectious smile. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 24, 1926. He and his brothers and sister grew up during the depression, went to school in a one-room school house and their mom was their teacher. They didn't have a lot of money but they were a close, hard-working and happy family. My dad was in the service during WWII but he never talked about that very much. After the war, he started ...

Back from Atlanta
Posted: Apr 21, 2008 - 3:21pm
Hey RPeeps! I'm back from my trip with my mom to Atlanta. Had a great time but I'm beat! I took sooooooo many photos but who knows when I'll be able to post them since I still haven't finished Mexico or my friend's bridal shower.

We went to the aquarium Saturday morning, had lunch there, then went to the zoo. The weather was perfect! 70's, sunny and breezy. Everything was in bloom - cherry/peach blossoms, dogwood, azaleas, iris (irises?), etc. My allergies were kickin' but it made for some great photos so, yay!

On Sunday, we went to the Braves game. Wow, Turner field is NICE! It's like a little town inside there. My friend's son's high school choir sand the National Anthem and sounded great! The Braves beat the Dodgers 6-1, but we weren't there to see the end of the game. We left during the 6th inning and headed south to McDonough to stay the night.

After we checked into our motel, we drove into the quaint little ...

what is that beautiful sound?
Posted: Mar 28, 2008 - 9:55pm
i was in my room on the computer with the tv on in the other room when suddenly, my ears tuned into this wonderful song that was coming from the tv. i finished what i was doing in here and by the time i was done and walking into the other room, jay leno was greeting kd lang after she had just finished performing the song coming home.

now, i've not listened to her much at all; i know a couple of her songs which i like but that's about it. i rewound her performance and sat on my couch completely astounded at her voice while also admiring the juxtaposition of that soft, ethereal voice coming from someone so androgynous. i found it quite fascinating and beautiful. i guess i had never really listened to her before.

i looked the song up on here and what do you know? bill played it yesterday and damn, i missed it. well, color me a new kd fan! does she ...

I'm so fuming angry!!!!
Posted: Mar 14, 2008 - 2:57pm
This cruel, heartless, stupid bitch (MySpace page) moved out of her house and left her 2 year old german shepard locked in her crate with no food and water. There was a bag of food in the same room as the dog but of course, she couldn't get to it because she was locked in her crate. She was found, TWO MONTHS LATER, starved to death. Oh, and she showed no remorse; she said she knew her dog would die but her new roommate doesn't like dogs.

She only lived a few miles from the Humane Society. WTF??? I don't understand how anyone could do this.

I hope this girl gets what's coming to her and dies a slow, painful death, deprived of food and water just like her poor, helpless dog.

Proof.

She's lucky I'm unable to leave her a comment on her MySpace page. There are ...

Apparently, I has it. Weird, because it's been 3 days since I've been in Mexico and I didn't drink any water off the ship. Time to call my boss to see if I can "extend my vacation".

I leave for a week and you guys break the message board? Sheesh!

Hope you all had a great week. My trip was wonderful! I thought of you guys and got each and every one of you a souvenir. OK, not really, but as promised, I took lots of photos

I haven't been feeling too well since last night so I'll be relaxing tonight and enjoying my own bed with my kittehs. I'll post more details later and pictures will be up sporadically throughout the week, probably. I think I took over 800!

Time to chillax and catch up on my DVR proggies

Life Lesson #6 - Never go shopping for kiwis in a shoe store
Posted: Jan 30, 2008 - 9:53am
My friend gave me this amazing book about 5 years ago. This particular lesson is the first thing she pointed out to me because of things we were both going through at the time. I figured it was about time I reminded myself, so naturally, I took a photo.

LIFE LESSON #6
Never go shopping for kiwis in a shoe store.
Some people just don't have what you need. So why waste time,
banging on their doors, ringing their bells, demanding service?

The Super Most Awesomest Thing Ever Just Happened!
Posted: Jan 29, 2008 - 12:03pm
So, I was walking to the break room to heat up my lunch on the other side of our office and realized I have a big hole in the ASS SEAM OF MY PANTS!!! There had been someone following me, too, so I was horrified.

Super awesome, huh?!?!

I got my lunch ready (luckily no one was in there), then hurried to the bathroom making sure no one was behind me. Someone I know was in there so I made her check if she could see it and she assured me that she couldn't. Whew, thank the god/desses for that!

Yay, me!

Don't you just love finding a hole in the back of your pants half-way through the day?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I wear thongs so I was really lucky no one could see anything

One year ago today....
Posted: Dec 27, 2007 - 11:52am
...was the scariest moment of my life. This is my Livejournal entry from a year ago...

I woke up around 4am on Wednesday morning to a bedroom full of smoke (this is the temporary unit I just moved into a couple weeks ago while waiting for my condo to be finished). I ran into the family room where the smoke was even worse, made sure nothing in my place was on fire and then went to open my sliding glass door, which was extremely hot, to see where it was coming from and try to get the cat carriers out of the storage closet. Black smoke poured into my place; I couldn't breathe or see through it so I closed the door right away, called for the kitties, didn't see them, grabbed my phone and ran outside. The apartment underneath me was on fire! I called 911 and I could see where the flames were, which weren't that high yet so I ran back upstairs (I know, I know...not supposed to do that), called for the kitties again and decided there wasn't anything I could ...
