Madrugada - Majesty (Live) (Aug 05, 2012 - 10:00) | How many times a day do we have to hear this song? I stopped listening to RP for years because of all the repeated songs. I happen to like this but get very tired of the sane old shit. These are the same songs Bill played 6 years ago.
Cream - White Room (Jul 04, 2012 - 10:33) | Pretty amazing band when Eric Clapton is the weakest member.
Joe Bonamassa - Slow Train (May 23, 2012 - 06:34) | I've been following Joe since his Bloodline days. Have seen him in concert over 10 times and for my money he is the best guitar going. This CD is his best work yet. He is evolving into the greatest guitar player ever.

Neil Young - Alabama (Mar 09, 2012 - 10:02) | Cynaera wrote: In the lyrics to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," there are the lines, "Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her - I heard ol' Neil put her down - well I hope Neil Young will remember, a southern man don't need him around anyhow..." It was a jab at Neil's song "Southern Man." The funny thing is that Neil was friends with Ronnie Van Zant, and the whole thing was just some good-natured ribbing among friends.
At least, that's what I remember reading in "Rolling Stone" about a zillion years ago.
I heard Ronnie was buried in a Neil Young T-shirt. That little controversy helped get them get needed publicity. I also think Neil is right up there with Dylan. Who knew Canadians could be so much fun..
Iggy Pop - Lust for Life (Jul 18, 2008 - 11:26) | Perfect example why I don't listen to RP music any longer. Sorry Bill, playlist is getting very tired.

Led Zeppelin - Trampled Underfoot (Jan 07, 2008 - 08:06) | Alexandra wrote: There is a pop song out now that follows this rhythmic style...Paralyzer, by Finger Eleven.
Funny, I was just thinking that Franz Ferdinand song was a rip of this song.
The American Analog Set - Hard to Find (Sep 12, 2007 - 11:57) | There seems to an abundance of this uninspiring music here at RP, but played after such classics as Jamacia Say You Will and Many Rivers To Cross, anyone can see what a waste of cyber space it is.
The Doors - Light My Fire (Aug 23, 2007 - 13:46) | My friend Layne and I were hanging out listening to KACY when the DJ had a contest to win two free tickets to see a new group called the Doors. Layne called and won. We were young 15 year olds so Rex, Layne's dad, drove us to SB and bought his own ticket. Wore my red Queen's Guard jacket that some family friends bought me in London. We were stylin'. Country Joe opened the show. A small fire broke out in the crowd before the music started. Someone getting high under his jacket. Morrison was electric. Sang behind two silver mikes and stood on a sheep rug. My life, Layne's and Rex's were never the same.
Neil Young - Cortez The Killer (Aug 22, 2007 - 17:42) | This has become my favorite Neil song. I play it in bars in Mexico and the ex-pats love it. I was a little concerned what the locals would think of it but only good comments. Simple enough for a great jam.
John Martyn - May You Never (Aug 01, 2007 - 09:05) | Nice song - heard it from the other room and thought it was a Lowell George, had to check.
J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton - When This War Is Over (Apr 03, 2007 - 16:09) | Just got back from my Mexican escape. I live in Puerto Escondido, Mexico and am involved in the Puerto Blues Fest. We listened to this album quite a bit while I was there and found it lacking, very boring. I love both artists but together they fall short. The rumors were flying about Eric's guest appearance at our little shindig but Oaxaca was a little too far for him to come I guess.
Mosquitos - Xixizinho No Oceano (Jul 23, 2006 - 08:16) | zgilbert wrote: A little googling reveals that 'xixi' is brazillian slang for pee and 'zinho' is the dimminutive suffix. So 'Xixizinho no oceano' translates as 'a little pee-pee in the ocean'.
Disclaimer: I don't speak Portuguese; this is an educated guess.
I met these guys in Mexico and they admitted to peeing in the ocean. I was very surprised that they were a touring band. Very weak. It is amazing what can be created in the studio.

Yes, good job on this song and an excellent album. Would like to hear some Tom Rush on RP.
Led Zeppelin - Bron-y-aur Stomp (Jun 15, 2005 - 11:19) | Led Zep 3 was a big let down for me after the rock/blues driving sound of 1 & 2. I read somewhere that Plant & Page retreated to Morocco and were big fans of CSN. This was there acoustic contribution to 70s rock. There are a couple of good tunes in the album but all and all a weak effort. IMHO

He could be but he would rather put out some rockin' tunes. Far from being washed up.

Low - California (May 17, 2005 - 10:11) | I am hearing this way too often on RP. Not that good.
Billy Idol - Lady Do or Die (May 04, 2005 - 06:46) | Just saw Billy this Sunday in Memphis. He put on a good show but I think Steve was a little wasted.
Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun (Apr 25, 2005 - 13:28) | I had been burned at a couple of Jimi's concerts in the early 70s, but remember when this came out, it reestablished him as the super talent he was.

Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La (Mar 24, 2005 - 15:40) | I am a big Knopfler fan. I have all his CDs and picked this up the first week of release. I have listnened to it many times and find it weak compared to his other creations. The last several songs are almost boring. The songs RP plays off of Shangi-la are the better ones, but not a great CD by any means.

Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Carry On (Mar 02, 2005 - 10:23) | rulebritannia wrote: Actually, if you want to hear this song in its pure form, the second half is taken almost verbatim from the Buffalo Springfield song of two years earlier, Questions. Stills and Young were in both groups and Stills wrote the song, so the plagiarism was legit. I find the original version a little less polished and a little more "honest," but I like both. In all events, it's fun to listen to both and make the comparison..
My favorite song on the album, by a country mile, is Country Girl, taken from a Buffalo Springfield demo - never minted until their 2001 Box Set. Even though my hair was almost down to my waist and I was a huge CSN&Y fan, Almost Cut My Hair was never a favorite.
Thanks RB for reminding me of this. I heard Buffalo Springfield doing Questions in concert once and then the lyrics reappeared with this version on Deja Vu. Maybe that's the reason for the album title.

Yes - KMET! How many DJs can you remember. BMR, Ladd?, and who was the woman?
Everclear - AM Radio (Feb 24, 2005 - 12:52) | KHJ-AM LA instantly put me back 30 years ago. I still drive the 66 Mustang that I did back then. The only thing good about this band is the name.
Elton John - First Episode At Hienton (Feb 17, 2005 - 09:57) | My sister is a big Elton fan and she went to Vegas to see his new show last weekend. She said it was very disappointing. Also said that the videos playing in the background were very disturbing. I am not surprised.

Jefferson Airplane - Wooden Ships (Nov 17, 2004 - 10:10) | I've played this song about as long as CSN. I like this version but really don't like the LA LA LA ending. Back in the days when Gracie looked good and could sing.
Grateful Dead - Unbroken Chain (Nov 12, 2004 - 09:26) | Dis-jointed. Not a big Dead fan but this one works well. The squeal sounds like leaving on a jet plane. I'm all for that.

I hope to hear some of them in RP
Many Mexicans feel the same way about Mana. Santana plays on some of their music and it is a welcome break from the disco crap played in most bars in Mexico.

My experience of Dead shows was different. Maybe because I'm a woman. Maybe because I saw them in the early 80's rather than later than that, or maybe because I saw them out West. I had numerous people help me do various things while camping at a dead show - from setting up camp, to offering me food or coffee. The fellowship and kindness showed was unparalelled. At one show, I managed to get the last ticket at the booth. The girl behind me had traveled from another state and broke down a cried. Within minutes a man walked up, handed her a free ticket and a rose and said "have a great show." That kind of stuff doesn't happen at any other band's shows. I had my faith in humanity restored at many a show.
I agree - Dead shows are mainly about the people and the music is just an excuse to get together.

Thanks Stubby - I like old music because I am OLD! I do like alot of new music and try to be fair in all of my ratings. Just bought all of the Porcupine Tree albums (Thanks RP). I just can't stand REM on so many levels. I was going to reply about the MTV thing but as you pointed out, I have very little influence on Britney, Justin and the Simpson girls.

R.E.M. - Leaving New York (Aug 18, 2004 - 10:10) | Same-o - Same-o! How many words can we cram into a boring musical framework? REM has to be the most over-rated band today.

Never before or since have I heard the complexities of this remarkable album as Neil Young and The Crazy Horse explore pertinent directions within the unique framework of these two songs... and the rest of the album is wonderful , too!
I totally agree. It's not Neil's expertise on the guitar but the emotion he can squeeze out of it that is clear on this and Down By The River. I once read he was in bed with the flu and wrote both songs in about 20 minutes. Something to be said for a NyQuil high. My group plays both songs and they are always big fun.

Jimi Hendrix - Angel (May 07, 2004 - 08:45) | GaryG wrote:
I saw Hendrix 6 times back in the day. Four times he walked off stage within a half hour because of sound or drug problems. That said, he is still my favorite guitar player and song writer. What would he have done - I don't know, but just saw Buddy Guy last weekend and his performance left me a litle sad.
Steve Miller Band - Going To The Country (May 07, 2004 - 08:14) | I was never a big Steve Miller fan but saw him last weekend in Memphis and he put on a great show in a driving rain. When most bands refused to play or shortened their sets, Ol' Maurice showed them what rock & roll is all about.

Grandaddy - Now It's On (Apr 29, 2004 - 09:18) | Businessgypsy wrote: Oops, sorry, spliff. Just checked, and these guys are from Kaliforniay! I'm thinking of another Mississippi band, whose name fails me. My Great-Great Grandfather had a blacksmith shop at the confluence of the White and Little Red rivers - good to talk to a homeboy. Sorry about the error - too much information in too little brain! I thought something was wierd. You usually have good taste in music. I am a Cali transplant but have lived here for the last 15 years. I've lived in a lot of nice places but north central Arkansas is about the best as long as I can get to Mexico at least once a year. If you remember the group let me know. Thanks Spliff

Grandaddy - Now It's On (Apr 29, 2004 - 08:49) | Businessgypsy wrote: Spliff, gotta disagree. Bands like Grandaddy, who have Southern roots backgrounds but infuse modern influences, give me hope for the future of American music. Hey, at least it's not rap.
I will have to give it another listen. I didn't pickup the Southern roots influence. I didn't like Gomez until I saw them live last year in Memphis, now I really like them. Old dogs ya know.
Grandaddy - Now It's On (Apr 29, 2004 - 08:39) | The dramatic contrast between this and the last, House of the Rising Sun, is a great example of why I don't buy many CDs these days.
John Prine - Paradise (Apr 27, 2004 - 08:58) | Businessgypsy Come visit! The Southern US is worthy of exploration.
Come this weekend. Memphis in May - 3 days of wild parties and great rock & roll.
John Prine - Paradise (Apr 27, 2004 - 06:48) | spieler wrote: What is this accent? Southern?
Reminds a Euro like me of "Dukes of Hazzard" coming around the corner any minute.
Hell boy - that's Arkie talk thar!
Fun Lovin' Criminals - Crazy Train (Apr 26, 2004 - 12:27) | I don't rate many songs 1 but I have for the last two played. No, wait, Ween just came on - make that a Sucko Barfo trifecta.
John Lee Hooker - Spellbound (Apr 26, 2004 - 10:10) | earthbased wrote: Sounds a little like ZZ Tops La Grange...
No - ZZ Top sounds alot like John Lee!
The Beatles - You Never Give Me/The End (Apr 07, 2004 - 11:24) | The thing that always impressed me about the Beatles is that when they are interviewed on TV they look directly into the camera as if talking directly to the audience. I grew up in England in the early 60s and the personal connection I feel with the Beatles will never be equalled by any other band. They are not my favorite music group but they did influence my life tremendously. Thanks Lads!

Eric Clapton - If I Had Possession Of Judgement Day (Apr 07, 2004 - 07:58) | Johray63 wrote: Compared to most of his guitarplaying, Clapton's singing was never that convincing, I think. Maybe apart from how he sang the more mellow songs. But here, even in a rather heavy song, it sounds better than ever.
Funny - I have always been critical of Clapton's voice but I, too, think his voice has gotten better later in life. The Blues format suits his voice better than his earlier solo efforts, which I never really cared for. Cream was and is one of my favorite groups and I think I always compared Clapton's voice to Jack Bruce's great vocals.

George Harrison - Beware Of Darkness (Apr 02, 2004 - 11:17) | jrenfro wrote: This song really makes me conscious of how much I'll miss George Harrison and his gift.
I was about to write the same thing.
Yes - Shoot High Aim Low (Mar 08, 2004 - 09:47) | I was never a big Yes fan but this song really has the best elements of their talent.
John Prine - Paradise (Mar 08, 2004 - 06:02) | Just saw John Saturday night in Eureka Springs. He has always been one of my favorite story-tellers.
The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night (Mar 05, 2004 - 12:15) | I just saw George's Tribute concert on PBS the other night. I was struck by how familar and great all of his & their songs are. It was nice to see Ringo and Paul on stage with Clapton and the others. It was also spooky to see George's son on stage looking exactly like his father did 40 years ago.
The Seeds - Pushin' Too Hard (Mar 05, 2004 - 09:59) | I've been wondering when you were going to play this one Bill. These guys sound a little dated but they had great hair.
John Prine - All the Best (Jan 30, 2004 - 13:01) | I agree - John is playing in Eureka Springs in early March. Be there or be square.
Miles Davis - Freddie Freeloader (Jan 29, 2004 - 11:11) | Was surfing the net while listening. Hit a site that had terrible Midi music playing on top of Miles. Didn't even notice till I closed the page. What's that tell you?
Whiskeytown - A Song For You (Jan 12, 2004 - 13:12) | I just glanced at the other songs on this album. Sounds like a great tribute. Time to drive to the desert with a gallon of gasoline and a box of matches.
George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (Jan 08, 2004 - 11:25) | Anyone see the news report today about George's doctor forcing him to sign a guitar and listen to his kid's playing while poor George was on his death bed. No class.
Jesse Colin Young - Before You Came (Jan 07, 2004 - 09:39) | I had to check out who the familiar voice was. Thought I heard a David Crosby influence. Great to hear Jesse again after all these years. He was always one of my favorites. It just went into a speeded up version of Darkness Darkness. Old habits die hard.
Iggy Pop - Lust for Life (Dec 19, 2003 - 12:30) | Ever notice that people started getting sick on cruise ships after this song was used in commercials? Stranger than truth!

Joni Mitchell - River (Dec 03, 2003 - 11:43) | Good music to me is like the sound of flowing water - this song is dripping wet.
Gillian Welch - Tear My Stillhouse Down (Dec 02, 2003 - 12:59) | It's only English folk songs, Irish laments, black blues, mountain music, country, rock & roll - hell it's all the same and I like it!
Crosby Stills & Nash - Wooden Ships (Dec 02, 2003 - 06:31) | This song is perfect: Lyrics, tempo, vocals and guitar. My band still plays this and it gets a great reaction from the drunks.
Robin Trower - Bridge Of Sighs (Nov 20, 2003 - 06:57) | "Well Dick - It has a great beat but you can't dance to it. I give it a 100."
My band has just started playing this song and it still gives me chills after all these years.
Koop - Glomd (Nov 19, 2003 - 12:37) | I really don't like this but it is the reason I listen to Radio Paradise.
Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Carry On (Nov 10, 2003 - 08:26) | I got an advanced copy of Deja Vu and thought it could never be as good as CSN. We played that album to death. The cover was great, put the LP on the turntable and this song came soaring through a powerful JVC amp with equalizer (brand new feature back then). Fantastic.
Willie and Lobo - Salome (Nov 10, 2003 - 05:37) | Wille & Lobo capture the true Puerto Vallarta spirit. Exotic, romantic and warm. Thanks Bill - needed this on a Monday morning.
John Cale - Paris 1919 (Nov 06, 2003 - 11:31) | This has been the worst several hours of RP radio I've heard since I've been listneing. Very few glimmers of good music.

Moby Grape - Omaha (Oct 21, 2003 - 10:51) | What a flashback. I still drive the 66 Mustang I originally heard this song in.
John Prine - Ain't Hurtin' Nobody (Oct 15, 2003 - 10:13) | Just played this song at a party Saturday. I couldn't believe I remembered the words. We need more Prine on RP.
Jeff Beck - Beck's Bolero (Oct 06, 2003 - 13:01) | Didn't know that skinny little white guy could play guitar like this. Oh, sorry - wrong Beck.
Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild (Oct 04, 2003 - 09:23) | Maybe the best rock & roll song ever recorded. It has all the elements and energy. My band still plays it and gets a great reaction evey time. They are still touring and Kay's quality of sound is better than anybody that I've heard lately.
Sigur Rós - Leit af lífi (Oct 01, 2003 - 16:35) | This is the kind of music that drives people into flying planes into buildings.
Jackson Browne - These Days (Oct 01, 2003 - 12:19) | There is no disputing the fact that Jackson is one of the best song writers of all time. Don't confront him with his failures, he has not forgotten them.

Joni Mitchell - All I Want (Oct 01, 2003 - 06:55) | rmurray248 wrote: Terrible phrasing, awful tone and octave transpositions without any cohesion or musical intention. What? How can someone be so wrong.
R.E.M. - Bad Day (Sep 29, 2003 - 11:08) | Christ - Just when I thought I had heard the worst of REM - this comes on.
Rodney Crowell - Fate's Right Hand (Sep 19, 2003 - 10:05) | Not too excited about this but I do like the diversion from the normal country pap that is heard these days. It takes balls to buck the system.
Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan (Sep 17, 2003 - 07:07) | I love this song. I can't wait until Cuba is open to Americans. Warm people, classic cars, beautiful beaches and great music.

Indigo Girls - Least Complicated (Sep 16, 2003 - 13:08) | eric wrote: The squealing teenage girls remind me of the loathsome John Mayer songs which were getting played here a while back but were mercifully axed from the rotation (thanks for that, Bill!).
I think they are middle-aged lesbians - not that there's anything wrong that.
Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing (live) (Sep 11, 2003 - 10:15) | I haven't heard Jimi's version for quite awhile. SRV seems to get all the airplay. Saw Hendrix about six times. He walked off stage 4 out of the six. Normally that would turn me off an artist, but after all that was Jimi Hendrix, Guitar God. Absolutely the best song writer and guitar wizard of all time.
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick (Aug 25, 2003 - 10:33) | Instead of sitting in front of my computer, I am now laying in the back of my Econoline. Same stupid look on my face.

Neil Young - Sun Green (Aug 22, 2003 - 08:49) | Neil - Put the bullhorn down and walk away slowly. What I've heard of this new album is really rough and not so good. And I'm a big Neil fan.
Dave Matthews - Gravedigger (Aug 21, 2003 - 12:30) | I like the concept of this song but the Ring Around The Rosey part lost me. The idea might work if someone like Richard Thompson composed it.

Josh Joplin Group - Camera One (Aug 20, 2003 - 08:16) | I have heard this song several times in the background and always thought it was REM. Not a good thing IMHO.
John Mayall - Ain't No Brakeman (Aug 18, 2003 - 07:03) | My brother in law is a good harmonica player and idolizes Mayall. Saw him in a small bar in San Luis. Frank followed him into the bathroom and started asking John questions at the urinal. Mayall was not very friendly. Also noticed he didn't wash his hands. Poppy was getting sloppy!
David Crosby - Cowboy Movie (Aug 14, 2003 - 10:14) | I was driving down Hwy 1 with Cowboy Movie playing on my all chrome Muntz 8 track when I was broad sided by a drunk coming out of Trancus. Slow motion wreck with this in the background. Car was a total loss but music never stopped. David has his problems but he does capture So Cal in the 70's. I love him.

Buffalo Springfield - Bluebird (Aug 04, 2003 - 07:03) | I saw Buffalo Springfield at Earl Warren in SB. Third of the way through Bluebird Stills stopped the song and yelled "turn off that fucking strobe light." He had a bad attitude even then. I'm glad he never got the Monkees' gig. BS was one of the best groups ever.

Concrete Blonde - Joey (Aug 04, 2003 - 06:39) | This has to be the worst song that I've heard on RP. Seems very out place.

Willie and Lobo - Puerto Vallarta Squeeze (Jul 22, 2003 - 07:51) | Just saw Wille & the Wolf down in Puerto Vallarta. The music sceen is growing down there. I've been going regularly for 20 years. If you get the chance to go - do it.
Neil Young - Cortez The Killer (Jul 21, 2003 - 09:26) | This is one of Neil's best songs of all times. I have always been interested in the subject matter. Listen to Warren Haynes' version. Thanks

Grateful Dead - Ripple (Jun 11, 2003 - 10:38) | One of the few Dead songs I like. Their lyric phrasing always seemed forced to me. I would like to hear Morning Dew. Maybe the Super Session version.
Goldfrapp - Utopia (Jun 06, 2003 - 10:48) | From the new Bond Flick "Gold Crap"! Or is that Frapp?
Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday (Jun 05, 2003 - 09:02) | This was the first song they played when they opened up for Led Zepplin at Earl Warren Showgrounds. They blew Zep off the stage. When they hit the first note both Ian and the bass played jumped up 5 feet and landed on one leg. Bet he can't do that anymore. great song.

U2 - Bad (Jun 04, 2003 - 07:38) | Good name for this song.
Joni Mitchell - Love or Money (Jun 03, 2003 - 13:24) | I too am surprised at the negative comments Joni gets. She is an extremely talented person. Still waters run deep.
Santana - No One To Depend On (May 30, 2003 - 07:13) | I am always surprised at the negative reaction Carlos gets on the comments page. He is an excellent guitar player and anyone who saw a live show back in the seventies can testify to his greatness.

Crosby Stills & Nash - Suite- Judy Blue Eyes (Mar 31, 2003 - 07:21) | I have a Love Hate relationship with CSNY. I grew up in So Cal and Buffalo Springfield was one of my favorite groups. Hell, the Byrds palyed in my high school gym. The first two albums were something very special back then. I think they hold up well after all these years. Unfortunately the later albums were never as good. The last was a total disappointment. I am a true fan but I think they are getting tired.
