Hank Dogs - I'm an Angel (Mar 09, 2010 - 22:13) | Much better than the dogs/M16 song. Maybe because it's not overplayed here like that was.

Cold War Kids - Audience (Mar 04, 2010 - 20:19) | I can't abide this dry, pinched voice. Though it's not as grating as in Hang Me Up To Dry.

Only one home is reported destroyed so far, and it was in Bell Canyon. We were lucky that this was the only fire this time, more of the states fire fighting resources were sent to protect property in this fire. We weren't so lucky last time when much more of the state was on fire at the same time. Topanga was never in a target area of this fire, but that only leaves them vulnerable for future fires. All the burned areas are now candidates for mudslides in the first heavy rains, since there is now nothing to hold the soil in place.

I think we are going to work on a better plan on what to take with once we're rested.

I was just about to ask whether I was the only one who's noticed that this guy can't sing.
I noticed it right off but found it mostly pleasant and actually somewhat charming within the context of the composition - right up until the strings, which went a bit farther than I cared for. I don't remember hearing this song before, and I did have some powerful drugs this morning, so I should probably just keep my mouth shut.

Modest Mouse - Float On (Sep 29, 2004 - 13:21) | This song has some vague appeal (though I'm kinda wearied of it from their TV commercials shilling this album) but I have to ask: do they work real hard to sound that bad?

Jonatha Brooke - Eye In The Sky (Jul 09, 2004 - 19:07) | BlueHeronDruid wrote: Nice, but I'd prefer something closer to the AP rendition, tempo-wise. Interesting though. This has an entirely different atmosphere about it, darker.
Oh my. Just two months later and I'm totally entranced. This tempo suits our evening dominoes game on the deck, under a starry sky, with adult beverages. Lovely.

James McMurtry - Choctaw Bingo (Jul 01, 2004 - 14:39) | BooKitty wrote: ".....get right between them with a buttock fistfull....."
what does that mean?
According to his website's lyrics, it's "bois d'arc fencepost." It doesn't change the general gist, though...

Allman Brothers - Jessica (Jun 30, 2004 - 15:42) | Yeah we're old and this is from back in the day but fer chrissakes it still rawks!

Jonatha Brooke - Eye In The Sky (May 17, 2004 - 14:45) | Nice, but I'd prefer something closer to the AP rendition, tempo-wise. Interesting though. This has an entirely different atmosphere about it, darker.

Paul Schwartz - Dido (May 14, 2004 - 08:25) | I'm kinda loving the sweetness and gentleness of the voice.
|
Hank Dogs - 18 Dogs (Apr 20, 2004 - 16:26) | Nice, but not as nice as the first 459 times I heard it here.
|
Mike Scott - Bring 'em all in (Sep 10, 2003 - 15:48) | Though the lyrics are indeed repetitive, I find the sentiment, the meaning, to be so moving. The words speak to me as I try to find my way in a violent, cold, twisted, angry world that I want to shut out, but that shuts me out of the good stuff, too. The only way to walk consciously in this world is to embrace the whole catastrophe, and for an empath like me, that's really really hard.

Bruce Cockburn - The Whole Night Sky (Apr 09, 2003 - 19:03) | This little gem is one of my very favorite Cockburn songs. I almost drove my car off the side of the road, moved as I was by the refrain.
|
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Mar 11, 2003 - 17:50) | This is a nice addition to my lifelong appreciation of Leonard Cohen. Very sweet.
|
Johnny Cash - Hurt (Feb 11, 2003 - 11:06) | Mommy, make it stop! Please... I can't stop thinking about goats singing with human voices. Ugly goats. But that's just me.
|
Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire (Feb 06, 2003 - 15:48) | This song is hot. Erotic. I love it. The song, not Bruce. He's short and butt-ugly. But I like this song.
