McCoy Tyner - Greensleeves (With Derek Trucks)
(Sep 23, 2009 - 14:17)
I do have much respect for Derek Trucks, but this is still muzak.

The Guggenheim Grotto - Wonderful Wizard
(Aug 19, 2009 - 14:47)
I keep hearing Cake...

Antje Duvekot - Ragdoll Princes & Junkyard Queens
(Apr 09, 2009 - 12:25)
That artwork is outstanding!! I'd rate that as a 10 if I could. This song is no slouch either.

Joe Cocker - The Letter
(Apr 03, 2009 - 07:03)
Joe Cocker makes me happy. {#Sunny}

Forest For The Trees - Dream
(Mar 26, 2009 - 09:12)
I think it's fun! Mostly because of the bagpipes. {#Music}

Verve Pipe - Colorful
(Mar 25, 2009 - 13:16)
I loved this band in highschool, or rather that one song, "Freshmen." After he went solo, he played a show in Grand Rapids, MI (his hometown, I believe). I felt kind of bad for him, because I think most of the crowd was there just to hear that song. We all sang along. This is a little more polished (read: over-produced) than other offerings. 6

Starsailor - Stars And Stripes
(Mar 24, 2009 - 06:21)
I'm digging the base line.

Patty Griffin - Truth No. 2 (w/ Emmylou Harris)
(Feb 27, 2009 - 11:00)
Two amazing voices. Yay!

Alanis Morissette - Baba

I don't think that would help. They don't make a whole lot of sense to me. At some point they seem ironic, but then at odds with the chorus. I've heard much better from her...especially her newer album.

Bruce Lash - Lithium

I really dig these guys.  Surprising breadth in their catalogue - everything from pure traditional tunes to heavily-electrified anthems.  If you can't find a GBS song you really like, you just haven't looked hard enough.

(I'm most partial to Donkey Riding, btw - easily one of their best)

I have a friend who is absolutely obsessed with these guys. This track is not winning me over. But I would give them another try.

James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thing
(Jan 16, 2009 - 09:13)
I wish but if anyone walked by my office... So I'll just let the banana do the talking: {#Dancingbanana}

Burlap to Cashmere - Anybody Out There?
(Jan 05, 2009 - 12:55)
Are you kidding?? What a blast from the past! I never thought I'd hear this here. I saw Stephen "Some really greek name" doing a solo show. It seriously sounded like 2 or 3 guitars going at once. Amazing...

Bob Dylan - One More Cup Of Coffee
(Jan 02, 2009 - 13:15)
I really like this!

Pink - Sober
(Nov 21, 2008 - 09:20)
This woman continues to surprise me. I really thought that she would die out after her bright moment in the late 90s... I love it when artists evolve into something better.

Franz Ferdinand - Lucid Dreams
(Nov 20, 2008 - 08:38)
To me, this track moves them somewhat beyond just the club scene. Very danceable, but with more meat behind the lyrics.

Fairport Convention - Matty Groves
(Nov 20, 2008 - 08:22)
wow...morbid much? {#Skull}

However, very catchy tune. And if I knew how to Irish Step dance, I would do so...yes...in my office. No...I'm not doing it now.

David Bowie - Golden Years
(Nov 18, 2008 - 06:25)
The Young at Heart Chorus did this piece. (click here). An abbreviated music video is in the documentary on this group of singing seniors. Their version is awesome.

I know! I was shocked when I saw that this "artsy" song was from that band. It's kind of neat, but annoying at the same time. Maybe it's the dissonant chords.

Annie Lennox - Into The West
(Nov 13, 2008 - 05:44)
A millions times better than that Emiliana Torrini song on the "Two Towers" soundtrack. I sat through the credits for this one. Several times.

Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
(Nov 12, 2008 - 12:11)
Wow! I haven't heard this song in a long time. Makes me get up and dance though! {#Bananasplit}

Miriam Makeba - Pata Pata
(Nov 10, 2008 - 09:26)
That's the way I want to go, doing something I very much love. I just watched the documentary "Young at Heart" about the chorus of senior seniors who sing versions of contemporary rock, punk, and pop songs. Two members pass away during the making of the film and the preparation for a new season of shows. Miriam's story reminds me of that.

All I could stand was some of the record they did after getting a few lessons from Crosby, Stills, and Nash. I couldn't even tell you what it is...

Pink Floyd - Fat Old Sun

I so want to go to a showing this year, but it's a real pain to get down to Freakfest, which is a huge deal, nationally, actually, in Madison, WI, on State St. The theater where it is shown is in the midst of the revelry and you can't throw things. No fun.

The more I hear this song, the less I like it. The mandolin is "eh" (it's just played fast) and the harmonica ok. She has a nice enough voice; I wouldn't mind hearing something else from her.

That's really too bad. I saw him a couple of years ago at Lollapalooza, and I mean, it was pretty much just him. Unfortunately, he fell prey to some of the same sound problems. I would love to see him in a more intimate setting.

This movie made me cry over the fact that I haven't been writing music and wishing that I could find my musical soulmate. I love all these songs.

Bill runs this station because he loves music of all kinds.  Fortunately, there are people who enjoy eclecticism, and I admire that, regardless of whether or not I enjoy the song. Which, in this case, I do. This is not a democracy and this is not Clear Channel; Bill can play whatever he likes. So shut up and enjoy. Or change the station. Whatever. We won't miss you.

This song is a fine comment on Madison, WI as well, where people like to pretend they're liberal and openminded before they react outrageously to any hint of certain religious leanings or opinions of any kind, really. Dandy Warhols are coming here soon. I might have to look into that.

I think what really kills it is the production. It's so perfectly polished that each part loses it character. It ends up goulash. I also think she's borrowed a little too much from her time in India. Works for Loreena McKennitt, not for her.

I watched "Brazil" for the first time the other night, and I was like, "Hey! It's Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds!" And my husband, who does not listen to this wonderful station, said, "Who?"
K.D. Lang - Hallelujah
(May 30, 2008 - 13:51)
This song does make me want to cry each time I hear it, it's that beautiful. But I am forever in love with Jeff Buckley's version. Melodrama? The song is frickin' MELANCHOLY! It deserves some feeling by the artist.

I disagree. I have heard more interesting mandolin playing. This song annoys me because the mandolin is so insistent and fast while the melody is slow and rather boring.
Propellerheads - History Repeating (w/ Shirley Bassey)
(May 30, 2008 - 08:25)
I don't know what the draw is, but I love this song. It's not like the melody is anything interesting. But I do love her vocals paired with the catchy beat. And yes, it does kind of sound like a Bond song...
Zero 7 - In the Waiting Line
(May 19, 2008 - 10:29)
This song will forever be linked to "Garden State" in my mind. It perfectly ethereal.
Richie Havens - Freedom
(Apr 09, 2008 - 14:10)
I recently saw the movie and was rather awed by the whole spectacle. Yes, I'm way too young to have been, as were my parents, but I still kinda get the groove, secondhand as it is. I liked that they showed people who were way into the scene but not on drugs. It's the power of music, that's the drug. I've felt like that at all the festivals I've been to.
Django Reinhardt - Limehouse Blues

What a great way to start my day! First song I hear when I fire it up:)
Apocalyptica - Farewell
(Apr 02, 2008 - 09:52)
These guys are awesome. I wish I could go to a concert. They have several good live videos on YouTube. They have brought strings up to the 20th century and beyond; that's about 2 or 3 centuries from when most string music that is still performed was written. Not that that is a bad thing, but...well, it's just COOL!
Dengue Fever - Seeing Hands
(Mar 26, 2008 - 07:07)
This song, as with many, but especially this one, brings me great amusement in reading the forum. I feel like I can't hate this out of hand, because it really is a very different kind of music. They even use different scales in that part of the world, which means they have notes Americans are not used to, used in an order we are not accustomed to. However, there is a definite American influence in the song structure. I think I could eventually learn to really like or really hate this song.
Emiliana Torrini - Sunny Road

"Swing Kids" is also one of my favorite films. I very much like Christian Bale and Robert Sean Leonard. In this case, the classic music was the only thing that made sense, as the movie was set in Nazi Germany.

All of that only increases my outrage over the lunacy of our leaders who can be so deadly stupid with impunity, and without having a clue what they are doing.

Thank you for sharing that. It's great to get a well-rounded view from someone with a loved one in the military. We have to remember that it's not those in the armed forces that we are protesting but the stupidity and callousness of our leaders.

I love this song.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Please Read The Letter

The harmonies are nice but nothing terribly special and repetitive songs get to me, no matter WHO does them. I would have to hear the rest of the record to get excited.
Over the Rhine - B.P.D.

I'm excited that they are coming to Madison, WI on Nov. 27th. Whoo hoo! I've seen them several times and they are AWESOME each time:) My fiance and I have chosen one of their songs as the one we will dance to at our reception. Maybe we can get them to play it for us...

I've also heard Linford mention that about this song, about how they try to fix people and it doesn't always work. I love this song.

Jack Johnson - Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

I, for one, like him. He's easy on the ears and nice to have going on in the background. He's certainly not a groundbreaker, but a nice addition to my collection. I just picked up the soundtrack to Curious George, which is Jack Johnson plus a few other artists like G. Love and Matt Costa featured on a couple of songs.

If you're so concerned about the lyrics, get a dictionary and translate it yourself. Jihad, by the way, in its purest form means a struggle within oneself, which is its main usage in the Koran. Besides, I remember a certain country artist who sang about putting a boot up someone's ass "the American way." Don't be so hypocritical!

Anyway, I love LOVE her vocals and the different types of scales that are used by other cultures. The flavor of RP never disappoints in its variety. Go Bill!

I don't know...I've always thought there's a little something off with that violin, almost like the person playing it isn't quite good or the violin itself sucks. I do like the song itself, though.
Depeche Mode - It's No Good
(Feb 07, 2007 - 13:24)
The other day, a co-worker in his mid-twenties (about my age), asked me who was playing in the overhead. He looked at the display and said, "Dipetchy Mode?" I almost laughed in his face (ok, I did a little) and said, "How old are you??" oy... I admit I was unaware of the 80s, but I know who the band is!!
Alice In Chains - Don't Follow

This song exceeds my toleration for crappy 80s music.
Fleming & John - Delusions of Grandeur
(Jan 24, 2007 - 08:21)
I can't believe that I walk away for a minute and skip one of my favorite bands! Fleming WAS vocally trained, opera actually. She attended Belmont University, a renowned school of music in downtown Nashville, and received an award from there in 2000. Her husband John usually plays all of the instruments on their albums, at least this one. They are excellent in concert! They are great friends with Ben Folds and co-wrote a song called "Ugly Girl," which I found when doing karaoke of all things. When I first heard them, my co-worker had loaned me the CD and I was listening at work. I had to stop what I was doing and just listen. I was so blown away!

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California
(Jan 15, 2007 - 13:03)
The more I hear the Peppers, the more I think they're overrated. Anthony has a very limited vocal range, so their melodies are pretty ho hum. They're evolution as a band is probably the most interesting thing about them.

Michael Franti and Spearhead - Yell Fire!

Beck - Nausea
(Dec 12, 2006 - 06:56)
Beck is usually on my peripheral as far as music goes. This is rather typical of him, the eccentricity of it anyway. But he did this on SNL a couple of weeks ago. The other members of the band sat at a table fully set with dishes and a fake turkey. They banged on everything. It was percussion heaven! Not to mention the puppets with matching outfits...

Minnie began singing in London's jazz clubs as a teenager, eventually joining a band that landed a deal with Island Records. She was in the midst of negotiating a solo deal with EMI when the hit film Circle of Friends came along and changed her life. But she always longed to return to music, and with the release of Everything I've Got in My Pocket, Driver has made the album she's been dreaming of making since her teenage years. Backed by a group that includes members of the Wallflowers and Pete Yorn's band, the album deftly blends Driver's sultry, bittersweet vocals with sparse, atmospheric pop and a hint of contemporary folk. With ten original songs and an unforgettable cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart," Driver's debut marks the arrival of an accomplished singer-songwriter.

Thanks for the info! It's nice to know that she's not just another actor trying to get into music. I like this too!
Over the Rhine - Jesus In New Orleans

sigh...I love OTR. Not only are they amazing musicians, but they are awesome people. This song makes me happy because it's gritty and it flips the paradigm of the way most people look at Jesus, yet is consistent with the what He taught.

Ahbez composed the song about friend and fellow freegan hippie Robert Gypsy Boots Bootzin, which told a fantasy of a "strange enchanted boy" "who wandered very far" only to learn that "the greatest gift" "was just to love and be loved in return." The song's melody is based on a Yiddish tune, Schweig Mein Hertz (Be Still My Heart).
"Nature Boy" was a primary theme of the film score for the 1948 film The Boy with Green Hair. The original version of the song was used for the film.

It was also the introductory song for the film Moulin Rouge!.

In my humble research, I compared several lists of top rock albums and Blood on the Tracks did indeed come out on top followed closely by Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 Revisited. But it's all subjective, isn't it?

I used to be very opposed to Bob Dylan. He annoyed me. Over the years, I've softened and then I listened to the audio recording of his biography, "Chronicles, Vol. 1" and I might actually like him. He was violently against being called the voice of his generation, btw. He was a very interesting guy (or is).

I think Sufjan really likes U.S. geography. I saw him in Grand Rapids, MI just after "Greetings from Michigan" came out. That was actually the first time he'd been in Michigan. I wonder if he's actually been to Jacksonville...
Pink Martini - No Hay Problema
(Nov 03, 2005 - 09:29)
It's time to SALSA!
The Dandy Warhols - Godless
(Nov 03, 2005 - 08:58)
yay! how about some "Bohemian Like You" or "Nashville Skyline"?
Kate Bush - Cloudbusting
(Nov 03, 2005 - 06:44)
What a happy song!
Los Lobos with Antonio Banderas - Canción Del Mariachi
(Nov 02, 2005 - 12:13)
TOO SEXY!!!
Mavericks - Dance the Night Away
(Nov 02, 2005 - 08:17)
What the hell? COUNTRY?!
Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah
(Nov 02, 2005 - 07:29)
YAY! Thanks, Bill!

Jeff Buckley's version is awesome as well.
Phil Keaggy - On Some Distant Shore
(Nov 02, 2005 - 06:25)
beautiful...
Coldplay - Til Kingdom Come
(Nov 02, 2005 - 06:19)
Why don't I own this album? Oh yeah, no money. Anyway, this is really different from anything else I've heard. Almost ordinary in its folk-rock-iness. This doesn't touch me like his other stuff.
Sister Double Happiness - Wheels A' Spinning
(Nov 01, 2005 - 14:02)
Maybe this is mean, but a person with a lisp probably should not name give their band a name with 4 S's. That has no bearing on the quality of the band and this song. I like it:)
Beck - Lost Cause
(Nov 01, 2005 - 13:18)
This is great! It proves that Beck is really versatile, that not only can he do "weird" stuff, but he can do something more traditional and do it really well.
October Project - Sunday Morning Yellow Sky
(Nov 01, 2005 - 11:38)
my god, she sounds like Annie Lennox!
Cake - Mahna Mahna
(Nov 01, 2005 - 09:36)
I didn't know Cake did this! They never cease to amuse me! Hurray for the Muppets!
Magic Slim & James Cotton - When the Levee Breaks
(Nov 01, 2005 - 07:53)
This one's dedicated to Massachusetts. And why not? I don't think it's inappopriate, just as I didn't think showing movies with the Twin Towers in the New York skyline was inappropriate.
Paddy Milner - Unsquare Dance
(Nov 01, 2005 - 07:36)
What a finger-snapping, toe-tapping tune! The title also made me chuckle.
Fountains Of Wayne - Supercollider
(Oct 31, 2005 - 14:44)
i just really like the lyric "I heard it backwards/hidden in a Pink Floyd song..." quite amusing:)
Jimmy Buffett - Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost
(Oct 31, 2005 - 11:45)
This song is weird but it made me laugh.
Dr. John - I Walk On Gilded Splinters
(Oct 31, 2005 - 08:42)
hmm...Dr. John twice in two hours? Bill, whatcha thinkin?
Nick Drake - River Man
(Oct 31, 2005 - 07:53)
This song really reminds me of Duncan Sheik.
Huffamoose - Like A Weed
(Oct 28, 2005 - 12:55)
Too bad they're dead. this is great! I do like the juxtaposition of the beat and the vocalizations. "Huffamoose" is also an amusing name for a band.
Elbow - My Very Best
(Oct 28, 2005 - 12:39)
The song isn't bad, but ELBOW?? When I get a rock band, I think I'll call it ANKLE or FOREARM.
Tricky - Excess
(Oct 28, 2005 - 11:42)
dumb

If you didn't believe in half these things, you'd be stuck in an asylum. "uhh...tall building don't exist!"
Over the Rhine - Spark
(Oct 28, 2005 - 07:01)
This band always makes me so happy. I've seen them a few times and will never see them enough. Their music seems to fit my every mood and speak to me wherever I am.
Spiritualized - Lay It Down Slow
(Oct 27, 2005 - 10:02)
Can this song get any slower??
Violent Femmes - Gone Daddy Gone
(Oct 27, 2005 - 07:59)
Now how many rock bands can get away with a xylaphone/vibraphone solo? I like it! even though, I sometimes wonder how they've stayed around so long, since the guy can't really sing all that well.
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
(Oct 27, 2005 - 07:07)
makhand wrote:

you may be correct. I'm referencing the psalmist of the old testament who was knows as 'the man after God's heart' ('pleased the Lord', see lyrics below), who was also well known as a musician (he wrote the psalms), was king, and saw a woman bathing from the top of the roof, liked her, and got her for himself, because he was king and could do that. and then it gets ugly, because this was a much loved, good, righteous king, but he gets her pregnant, ends up having to 'eliminate' her husband, etc. Anyway, it seems to me that the song was talking about him because of all of these clues.... but then it seems to confuse the story with a different story -- that of samson. Both involved powerful men, women that enticed them, and ended up getting them in a lot of trouble. I think both biblical stories seem to play into the theme of the song. Its really pretty intresting. Just the mix up kinda bugs me.

I really like what you have to say about this. I think that Cohen was mixing the stories, but I think it's the themes that are important. At any rate, this song makes me mental...in a good way:)
Art of Noise - The Holy Egoism of Genius
(Oct 27, 2005 - 06:10)
argh! the mute button!
Pink Floyd - Fat Old Sun
(Oct 26, 2005 - 12:18)
Pink Floyd always makes me so happy... Although this is quite different than "Dark Side of the Moon."
Verve Pipe - Colorful
(Oct 18, 2005 - 14:25)
cbonai wrote:
These guys still around anymore? Forgot how much I liked them.

Brian released a solo album last year, I think, or maybe the year before. I saw him at a street festival in his hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. He did a bunch of Verve Pipe stuff with a guest band. It was so cool to hear the whole crowd sing "Freshman" with him YEARS after it was a hit. He's really great solo, too.
Philip Glass - Opening
(Oct 12, 2005 - 14:04)
how beautiful!
46bliss - In A Long Time

Good for about 30 seconds, which leaves the other 10 minutes of this song to get sick of it.

for sure. I did hear a bit of Annie Lennox in it too, but then she just kept singing the same thing...
Nickel Creek - House Of Tom Bombadil
(Oct 12, 2005 - 07:22)
Why the hell didn't I go see them for free when I had the chance?!! And I totally agree on the Tom Bombadill thing. Yay!

Thea Gilmore - Ever Fallen In Love
(Oct 12, 2005 - 07:15)
I have a problem with artists releasing a cover for their first or second single. It usually pigeon-holes them. Let's hope it doesn't happen to her. She does have a beautiful voice, and I'm not usually a big fan of women vocalists.
The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
(Oct 11, 2005 - 09:18)
Teehee...Bill, you have a great sense of humor. Peter Tosh "Don't Look Back" and then this one, both about walkin'.
The Waifs - Rescue
(Oct 11, 2005 - 08:55)
I love the mandolin on this song!
Steve Earle - Jerusalem
(Oct 11, 2005 - 08:07)
You know, I never gave this song a good listen until today. Usually, Steve Earle's voice grates on me just like Dylan's. But I do think this song is very good.
The Beach Boys - God Only Knows
(Jan 04, 2005 - 12:19)
You can't help but feel happy when you hear the Beach Boys, especially this sweet little song!
Starsailor - Some Of Us
(Jan 03, 2005 - 08:06)
I can't believe how many people hate this song! I actually really like it. I guess I just like a wide variety of stuff...
Stevie Wonder - I Wish
(Dec 30, 2004 - 10:43)
i feel like Will Smith ripped off this song a bit in his "Wild, Wild West." hmm...
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over
(Dec 29, 2004 - 11:55)
MaxEmerika wrote:
Jeff Buckly is the son of Tim Buckley, one of whose albums was Starsailor, which is also the name of the band that was played a couple songs back. Coincidence? I don't think so.

That is so cool! Thanks for the observation. I don't think it's a coincidence either. Bill has an interesting sense of humor in his programming.
Starsailor - Tie Up My Hands
(Dec 29, 2004 - 11:45)
I actually really like this guy's voice. Maybe it's the same reason that I really like Jeff Buckley's voice, the same timbre or something. I alway perk up when I hear one of their songs and then realize it's Starsailor.
Frank Zappa - Don't Eat The Yellow Snow
(Dec 29, 2004 - 09:19)
this is one of the silliest songs i've ever heard. I love it! (pimp)
Urban Species - Blanket (featuring Imogen Heap)
(Dec 28, 2004 - 11:13)
You know, I rather like this. This kind of rapping does not bother me in the least. It's when they start screaming about "bitches" and "hos" and "bling" *shudder* that I run.
Mumbo Gumbo - Love Makes Me Stupid
(Dec 28, 2004 - 10:40)
hahahahahaha! Ain't that the truth?!
Kirsty MacColl - Mambo de la Luna
(Dec 28, 2004 - 09:52)
fun!
Delerium - Fallen Icons
(Dec 28, 2004 - 08:59)
She reminds me a bit of Fleming from Fleming & John.
Simon & Garfunkel - For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her
(Dec 28, 2004 - 08:32)

(Dec 17, 2004 - 06:42)
if Bob Dylan and John Hiatt had a child ...
Soul Coughing - Screenwriter's Blues
(Dec 17, 2004 - 04:47)
wannabe Cake, like a McDonald's rib sandwich compared to true southern ribs. no contest. this song irritated me. 1.
William Shatner - Common People
(Dec 16, 2004 - 13:14)
Man, I haven't heard this song in awhile. I think I'm getting nostalgic and I didn't even like it the first million times I heard it! Maybe the old adage, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is true...
John Hiatt - Cry Love (live)
(Dec 16, 2004 - 11:46)
Pyro wrote:
Neither Hiatt nor Dylan can sing, but they can sure craft a clever tune or two.

I totally agree. However, I find myself liking them more and more as I am repeatedly sujected to them on this station. It's sorta like brainwashing....
Bob Dylan - Forever Young
(Dec 16, 2004 - 08:37)
hey! a Bob Dylan song i like! cool!
Leo Kottke - Jack Gets Up
(Dec 16, 2004 - 08:27)
I like this song because i literally drag myself out of bed each morning. ha! And with declaration that he has a Prairie Home Companion sense of humor, I will take the first chance I get to see him!
Kristin Hersh - Gazebo Tree
(Dec 16, 2004 - 07:30)
I like it too, although the melody is a little bit linear, threatening to get a bit boring. But overall, nice:)
AfroCelts - Seed
(Dec 15, 2004 - 13:27)
I've really liked every song I've heard of theirs played on RP. This one is great! Thanks, Bill!
Temple Of The Dog - Hunger Strike
(Dec 15, 2004 - 10:06)
I just heard this song like 15 min. ago on the hard rock station...hmm...
Stevie Wonder - Pastime Paradise

No doubt! ha! I wish this WERE Weird Al's version. I could use a good laugh...
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
(Dec 15, 2004 - 05:36)
This song makes me absolutely mental! I mean that in a good way, like stop whatever I'm doing and actively revel in it. I LOVE this version and also the Rufus version. It gets my very first 10:)
Kristin Hoffmann - Mary
(Dec 14, 2004 - 12:37)
I think this is a really cool sounding song, but I agree with the "mary is not a savior" sentiment.
The Kinks - Sunny Afternoon (live)
(Dec 14, 2004 - 11:51)
wow! so fun! I like live versions of songs, for the most part. Crowd participation is fun:)
John Prine - Fish and Whistle
(Dec 14, 2004 - 11:41)
I totally thought this was a Bob Dylan song in which Bob actually sang well. This is so much fun! yay!
Glenn Miller - A String of Pearls
(Dec 13, 2004 - 12:51)
Can't get much more classic than Glenn Miller. Thanks for adding that to the playlist, Bill O:)
Bob Dylan - Most of the Time
(Dec 13, 2004 - 12:38)
Dude, I finally truly LOVE a Bob Dylan song! yeah!
Patchouli - The Woods
(Dec 13, 2004 - 08:55)
I'm not very impressed with her voice. It sounds very unsupported...I love untrained voices as much as the next person, but some people just can't carry it off. And yeah, too repetitious.
Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama Out
(Dec 13, 2004 - 07:30)
In the 60s, I think they referred to each other as "daddy" or "mama." I've heard "daddy" used a lot, so mama makes sense.
Emiliana Torrini - Easy
(Dec 10, 2004 - 13:35)
on second thought... :P
Najma - Ghoom Charakahna (Talvin Singh remix]
(Dec 10, 2004 - 12:52)
This is a nice way to break up the afternoon:) It's a little long, but quite nice overall.
Keren Ann - Sailor & Widow
(Dec 10, 2004 - 08:15)
I think she could give the Barenaked Ladies a run for their money in a contest to see who can sing the fastest. I rather like this though.
Outback - Air Play
(Dec 10, 2004 - 07:27)
Gotta love the didgeradoo! yay!

it's borderline annoying.
Bananafishbones - Easy Day
(Dec 03, 2004 - 11:06)
This is what I like about RP. I'm just cruising along through my afternoon and bam! something incredibly weird hits my ears. Sometimes i mute it, sometimes I gape in dismay, sometimes I feel guilty for liking it. I think I'm rather dismayed by this one.
Miles Davis - Nature Boy
(Dec 02, 2004 - 12:28)
smooth 8)
Wax Poetic - Angels (with Norah Jones)
(Dec 02, 2004 - 11:12)
blech! I can't even wait long enough to hear Norah! The intro is annoying! :P
Frank Sinatra - It Was A Very Good Year
(Dec 02, 2004 - 11:07)
I appreciate the humor behind playing Cake's "Frank Sinatra" and then playing a Sinatra song. hehehe...
The Lash - The Lucky One
(Dec 02, 2004 - 06:00)
oh yeah! I LIKE it!! I love music with a Celtic feel, like modernizing it in a way. fun fun!
Carla Sciaky - The Spool
(Dec 01, 2004 - 13:46)
I wasn't going to start a thread with a negative comment but I can't help myself. :puke:
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold
(Dec 01, 2004 - 10:59)
I don't know...I'm getting kind of tired of female vocalists covering songs originally done by male vocalists and much better. I can't deny that she has a beautiful voice. And maybe I'm just jaded now...
John Mayall - Room To Move
(Dec 01, 2004 - 10:09)
Whoo! I've never even heard of him and I'm happy! this is cool!
Jeff Buckley - Grace

Blind Melon - Tones of Home
(Dec 01, 2004 - 05:16)
:D/
Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater
(Nov 29, 2004 - 11:17)
meh...this song does nothing for me, though I think that I've liked other things by them. YEah, that keyboard definitely gets old.
Moodswings - Spiritual High (part III)
(Nov 29, 2004 - 08:53)
I really like this actually. It seems to set off the speech well. Of course, this speech just hits home everytime. As far as speechmaking these days, there is a definite lack of passion. The Civil Rights leaders were fighting for FREEDOM! Today, it's just who can be the most PC. bleah.
AfroCelts - Ayub's Song - As You Were
(Nov 29, 2004 - 08:27)
Wow...this just makes me happy!
Marc Cohn - True Companion
(Nov 29, 2004 - 06:24)
Hey, once in awhile it's fun to listen to a little "schmaltz." It's a nice song, nothing fancy, but nice.
James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thing
(Nov 22, 2004 - 13:08)
Jump back! Kiss myself! hahaha.... I wish I could dance at work!
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
(Nov 22, 2004 - 11:38)
Norah Jones doesn't sing so much as she caresses the melodies. She always makes me think of cozying up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa in a big sweater and a lap blanket, while it is snowing. I do like this even though "they" have done their best to commercially exploit her. Just because she was recognized by the Grammys doesn't mean she is talent-less.
Spiritualized - Lay It Down Slow
(Nov 22, 2004 - 11:01)
That was peaceful. The guitars were perfectly "grindy." It was at a very deliberate pace, which has a calming effect.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - In Like The Rose
(Nov 22, 2004 - 10:47)
mmm... I like!
U2 - A Man And A Woman
(Nov 22, 2004 - 10:29)
I would have to say that this does nada for me as well. Vertigo is crappy compared to other stuff I've heard. I'm not a hardcore U2 fan, but songs like "Elevation" are hard to top. That was the one that really got my attention. I just thought all my friends were freaks for liking them so much.
Richard Thompson - I Can't Wake Up To Save My Life
(Nov 22, 2004 - 06:47)
This guy consistently catches my ear. I like!

Tricky - Evolution Revolution Love
(Nov 18, 2004 - 12:11)
I'm usually against lots and lots of vocal effects. yeah, I'm against this song. The nicest thing I can say is it IS a change of pace.
Simon & Garfunkel - Mrs. Robinson
(Nov 18, 2004 - 12:00)
This song makes me happy. In fact, Simon & Garfunkel make me happy.
Ben Christophers - Hooded Kiss
(Nov 18, 2004 - 11:40)
This song always catches my ear when I hear it. I'm not sure what exactly I think about it, but it is different. And i too appreciate the posted lyrics.

The Beatles - Within You Without You
(Nov 18, 2004 - 11:20)
Guess I can't really get into this stuff.
Pink Floyd - Time
(Nov 18, 2004 - 10:49)
I love this album and I love Pink Floyd. I get excited everytime they're played.
Béla Fleck - Big Country
(Nov 18, 2004 - 08:12)
I had the opportunity about 4 year back to see DMB with Bela Fleck. That was a treat. And then Emmylou Harris came out and sang a duet later on. Living in Nashville had its advantages to be sure:)
Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut
(Nov 18, 2004 - 06:24)
"Revivalists" is a good term for these guys. That's what the whole swing fad was about anyway. I like it!
10,000 Maniacs - Noah's Dove
(Nov 18, 2004 - 06:11)
I really like this! Hmm...and I have Noah's dove tattooed on the my back, complete with olive branch and the word "rest" underneath it. Now my tattoo has a song! haha!
Louis Armstrong - Skokiaan (South African Song)
(Nov 17, 2004 - 12:43)
Geez! I need a pina colata with a toothpick umbrella, sitting under a cabana in the tropics. Warm sun, refreshing breeze, the sound of waves...ahhhh... 8)

Patty Griffin - Wiggley Fingers

oh man...this is rockin!
Billy Bragg - Sexuality
(Nov 17, 2004 - 07:56)
:P
Willie and Lobo - Sultan's Dream
(Nov 17, 2004 - 05:30)
I really like this:) I rented El Mariachi this week...I think I need to go watch it now:)

Severed Heads - Triangle Tangle Tango
(Nov 17, 2004 - 05:12)
hmm...maybe I'm just biased against that New Wave crap, although I do like some of it, so maybe not. I didn't enjoy that. Of course, I was living under a rock in the 80s.
Travis - Love Will Come Through
(Nov 15, 2004 - 13:04)
It's a pretty good song, but it's overplayed. In fact, Travis is played a little too often.
Yungchen Lhamo - Happiness Is...
(Nov 15, 2004 - 11:34)
I think this is beautiful for what it is. I don't think I could stand to listen to a whole CD though,.
Sheila Chandra - Ever So Lonely / Ocean
(Nov 15, 2004 - 08:36)
Can't deal with a cappella stuff like this for too long. I feel like I should be lighting incense or smoking weed, neither of which I actually do.
Blasters - Little Honey
(Nov 15, 2004 - 07:58)
:?
Outback - On The Streets
(Nov 15, 2004 - 07:14)
I like this!
Patty Griffin - Tony
(Nov 12, 2004 - 09:03)
This song make me MENTAL! in a really good way, that is. Absolutely wonderful on many, many levels!
System of a Down - Aerials
(Nov 12, 2004 - 08:47)
I'm really surprised to hear this song on RP, but I really like the CD "Toxicity." These guys are very unique in their melodic hardrock, the melodies being influenced by their Middle Eastern heritage. I like it!
Richard Thompson - Walking The Long Miles Home
(Nov 12, 2004 - 08:14)
He can walk right off of this rotation. It was almost like listening to to the endless "El Paso".
Eels - All In A Day's Work
(Nov 12, 2004 - 08:07)
That's funny, at first I thought it was White Stripes. It's not winning me over so far, any more than a White Stripes song would.
Charlie Parker - Bloomdido
(Nov 12, 2004 - 07:45)
This makes me happy 8)
Tim Buckley - Pleasant Street
(Nov 12, 2004 - 06:06)

Velvet Underground - I'm Waiting For The Man
(Nov 12, 2004 - 05:27)

Flunk - Miss World

:butt:
Sufjan Stevens - For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti
(Nov 09, 2004 - 06:58)
Holy cow! I can't believe you're playing Sufjan!!! That's awesome! He's played at the college I used to attend a few times. He played last year, opening for Over the Rhine. It was definitely the wrong crowd for his soft exploratory music. The ideas in his songs take awhile to develop. People were laughing in the wrong places... It was terrible. But I really like him. The funny thing was that he was promoting his album "Michigan," while OTR was promoting their newest album, "Ohio." hehe... :D Btw, Sufjan has no real ties to MI. He's from NY. ha!
Elena Skye - Like A Prayer
(Nov 05, 2004 - 06:18)
ahhhh!! not that I'm a Madonna fan, but this is just wrong. Why must people make a not so great song even worse?
James McMurtry - Choctaw Bingo
(Nov 05, 2004 - 06:04)
The lyrics are fun and it's a rockin' little tune, but the melody is so linear that the whole song loses its luster in a very short time.
Jackie Wilson - (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher
(Nov 04, 2004 - 12:50)

Thievery Corporation - Exilio (Exile)
(Nov 04, 2004 - 08:12)
yiyiyiyi let's salsa!

Leonard Cohen - Waiting For A Miracle
(Nov 04, 2004 - 05:55)
unique! I think I like. Although, I'm not sure if I could handle a whole CD. hmm... :?
Stan Ridgway - Drive, She Said
(Nov 04, 2004 - 05:26)
annoying
Josh Joplin Group - Siddharthas of Suburbia
(Nov 03, 2004 - 12:31)
Josh Joplin Group was played several years ago on the progressive rock station in Nashville. I got the CD and like it. Sometimes, his songs sound too much the same and his melodies are a little linear but overall it was good. I particularly liked "Camera One."
Cab Calloway - Minnie The Moocher
(Nov 03, 2004 - 11:33)
oh yeah! we need more big band sounds on RP. Way to go Bill and Rebecca!
John Hiatt - Lift Up Every Stone
(Nov 03, 2004 - 08:19)
Hiatt's voice irritates the crap out of me. I think there is one song that I like of his.
Ungar, Mason & friends - Ashokan Farewell
(Nov 03, 2004 - 07:59)
ahhh....I like it. what a nice change of pace! It's very Celtic...and yes, it does sound "old timey," which is really cool.

Faultline - The Colossal Gray Sunshine (w/ Flaming Lips)
(Nov 03, 2004 - 05:29)
I like it. Then again, for some reason, I'm getting into the happier sounding vocals (even though this song is actually quite sad), like the Polyphonic Spree, which, btw, I have NOT heard as yet on this station. C'mon Bill!
Chemical Brothers - The Golden Path (w/ Flaming Lips)
(Nov 01, 2004 - 13:19)
I have to immediately mute this song. Maybe it would be ok if it lasted say, 3 min. Then his cracked vocals might actually be construed as cool and the synth wouldn't make me want to smash my head against my desk.
Solomon Burke - None Of Us Are Free
(Nov 01, 2004 - 12:40)
I don't think anyone is convinced he IS free by the end of this song...it's almost like Chinese water torture after awhile. I mean, I liked it in the beginning...

My Morning Jacket - One Big Holiday
(Nov 01, 2004 - 11:33)
I was wondering why this song reminded me of some 70s band and then I read a review which compared it to Neil Young. I don't know if I'd go so far as to compare the lead guitarist to Lyndsey Buckingham, but I do like what I've heard of this band.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells - Part 1
(Oct 29, 2004 - 12:25)
Holy crap! I listened for awhile, went on my break, came back and refreshed the page, puzzled as to why it still said Tubular Bells... PART ONE no less!
Fairport Convention - Tam Lin
(Oct 29, 2004 - 10:51)
is it just me or does this song seem to go on FOREVER!?
Martyn Bennett - Move
(Oct 29, 2004 - 07:16)
PLEASE don't play this anymore, please please please.........
John Hiatt - Crossing Muddy Waters
(Oct 29, 2004 - 06:53)
well, what do you know, another song of Hiatt's that I actually like! interesting... But I don't think I'll become a convert.
David Gray - Sail Away
(Oct 29, 2004 - 06:42)
"White Ladder" is a good album. It makes me feel mellow and happy. This is a nice song too...
Patty Griffin - Little God
(Oct 28, 2004 - 05:27)
This song is incredible. However, I am still in love with "Tony" and will be forever. I love her acoustic guitar stuff.
George Winston - Spanish Caravan
(Oct 27, 2004 - 11:27)
I'm very much enjoying this instrumental interlude. It's a nice change of pace. I grew up listening to Winston.
William Shatner - Common People
(Oct 27, 2004 - 10:53)
I don't know how to feel about this song. Part of me wants to like it. The other part of me hates that part of me. There's something wrong about this type of song. Then again, there's something completely original about it. I'm conflicted!
John Hiatt - What Do We Do Now
(Oct 27, 2004 - 07:27)
I think this is the ONLY song in which I like Hiatt's voice.
Tom Waits - Singapore
(Oct 27, 2004 - 05:50)
ugh!

Emiliana Torrini - Easy
(Oct 27, 2004 - 05:36)
oh! so this is the girl that sang that HORRID song on LOTR. yuck! It sounded like she was dying. But this song is fairly good. but...not too often is right.
Patty Griffin - Love Throw A Line
(Oct 26, 2004 - 13:08)
I love Patty Griffin and I want to continue loving her. But I've heard her twice a day every work day for the last month. Please don't overplay her!
Travis - Re-Offender
(Oct 26, 2004 - 12:35)
I have never been overly impressed by Travis, but everytime this song comes on, I'm like, "Who IS this?!" I really like it. Thanks for playing it!
Johnny Cash - Hurt
(Oct 26, 2004 - 08:21)
I'd like this song a whole lot more if Johnny Cash weren't singing it. Saying that might just get me stoned, but well, he's not my favorite.
Sophie Zelmani - Once
(Oct 26, 2004 - 08:17)
I wanna know who the dude is! I do like it. Very soothing. I could snooze...no, i couldn't. I'm at work. grr...
Over The Rhine - The World Can Wait
(Oct 26, 2004 - 07:48)
I absolutely ADORE this band and love, love LOVE this song. OTR plays quite often in my area (like once a year for the past 10 years). Last time, they did an amazingly sizzling version of this song. I want to be Karen when I grow up.
Back To Base - Nu Suede Shoes (with Benjamin Zephaniah)
(Oct 26, 2004 - 05:35)
Glad I'm not alone. bleah! I turned it off too, as I'm stuck at this computer and can't go do something else for 6 min. And I think horrendously slaughtering the English language is supposed to culturally set apart a people. Of course, maybe the British were pissed at us for doing the same thing when Webster took out all the "u's" in words like "colour" and "flavour" and rearranged the "r's" and "e's" in "theatre" and "fibre."
Flunk - Blue Monday
(Oct 25, 2004 - 07:19)
Hey! This is my first post:) Anyways, Orgy made this popular back when I was in college (the first time). I don't think I've ever heard the New Order version, wasn't much into music in the 80s. I don't mind this female cover, but I totally agree on the Nirvana covers. ack!
