no, i wouldn't say so, but far better imo. I have heard nothing on this feed that i would rate " on the top of a mountain" at all... well not a serious mountain anyway... maybe a midwest "mountain" though. If anything, A Perfect Circle would be the highest: talent, passion, energy, precision. I've seen them live (only once unfortunatly) and that rates as one of my favorite concerts.

Modest Mouse - Dashboard (Feb 19, 2008 - 08:25) | I gotta chime in considering some other comments: I think this is hot & rocking. MHO: Modest Mouse best rock band of the last few years.

I had no idea that he could have saved himself so readily, but your quote reminds me of Aron Ralston, the guy who had to cut off his forearm a few years back when it got trapped under a boulder.
Everyone was amazed that Ralston was so brave, but as a former Boy Scout I shook my head. You don't go off into the wilderness on your own--three people is the minimum number. You tell people who aren't going with you the details of when, where and how you're journeying. You bring a map and a compass; these days you could also bring a GPS and if you're really going out there, a satellite phone or a PLB. You stay on known and used paths of travel. You don't bushwhack on a whim.
Ralston didn't do any of these things and barely lived to tell the tale.
I don't know Chris's story that well. I imagine that some of my Scout rules would have struck him as playing it safe, and that he wanted to challenge himself without having a safety net. Maybe Chris did partly lose his sanity. But the park ranger you quoted was right when he called McCandless "inconsiderate." Think of all the people who have to search for and rescue people like Chris and Aron, and the families who suddenly have to deal with the prospect of a dead loved one.
There is alot more to this "story" than how it ended. It is an epic American journey.

Wilco - War On War (Jul 12, 2006 - 15:07) | This is awesome. To me this is an artist speaking the gospel.
|
Leonard Cohen - The Future (Jul 11, 2006 - 08:53) | I would play this album when it came at my imbibed bedtime as if it was a "Brothers Grimm" drunken lullaby. My future was looking bleak and it was oddly reassuring. It always makes me smile espescially knowing what a gentle soul Leonard truly is.

Rufus Wainwright - One Man Guy (Feb 22, 2006 - 14:27) | i got turned on to this tune through the writer Nick Hornby's book Songbook. the book came with a CD with this tune on it. the book also riffs on 31 of his favorite tunes. my wife can not deal with this particular tune at all but since the guy who wrote High Fidelity gives it a nod it can't be all bad

Neil Diamond - Hell Yeah (Jan 18, 2006 - 09:54) | I can't help to think or Rod Stewart when Neil's name comes up. The arc of thier careers are similar to me - they both had some very decent tunes early on. But they both went, prematurely, over the hill. That slippery slope is sure to make Neil one of the easiest targets here. Anyway, this may be the first and last time I hear this song.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Drown (Nov 10, 2005 - 10:04) | I am in the "play the feedback" camp. When I was doing the butterfly stoke about 10 years ago tying to keep my head above water the feedback at the end of this song was the best expression of the cognitive dissonance in my wet brain I could find. Anyway - not quite godlike, which I rated it expecting feedback, or even the same song without it. By the way, have you tried listening to Lou Reed's "Metal Maching Music" album without the feedback? I would appreciate feedback

Nada Surf - Happy Kid (Sep 01, 2005 - 19:30) | i like it. its not going to change the world but its good attitude might change me
