|Spencer Davis Group - Gimme Some Lovin|
(Mar 16, 2013 - 09:54)
I think of one thing when this song comes on, Iron Eagle.
Doug Masters: This is Iron Eagle, he's not being moved, what's the hold-up?
Control tower operator: We are having trouble finding a jeep suitable for your, um, purposes.
Doug Masters: Bullshit, you've got a whole country full of them!
Doug Masters: You just lost a refinery!

(Apr 30, 2011 - 21:26)
|the lyrics and melody are contemplative but it was the horrible screeching in the background at one point in the song that made me look up the name.|

(Apr 14, 2008 - 10:11)

|Heather Nova - Virus Of The Mind|
(Sep 24, 2007 - 10:30)
Before I became a regular listener since only last week I didn't even know the word. But I guess this was a perfect example of a great "segue". From the one toodoodotooodododododoodo to the other.
Bill's segues are legendary :)
i too got a big laugh when Judy Blue Eyes ended with 'doodedoodoo' and this one started with the same.

Can someone tell me where happiness lives?
Apparently, happyness sitting in the woods with a trashcan.

|Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold|
(Mar 19, 2007 - 18:23)
She has a good voice, strong but with a soft tender centre.
like a jelly doughnut? that about sums it up for me. i love it for a while but it eventually gets sugary and repetitive.
|Vusi Mahlasela - When You Come Back|
(Mar 16, 2007 - 17:40)
He was heading for an "outstanding" with the opening solo bit - then he slid to "pretty good" with the rest of it. Still nice tho
agreed. at the start of the song i was all excited for something new with a strong african beat and singing. instead it got really generic sounding. bouncy and fun, but generic.
|The Decemberists - Leslie Anne Levine|
(Mar 02, 2007 - 14:21)
|i used to like their sound but now i find it horribly annoying. it took all my effort to keep the rating from dropping into the sucko-barfo zone.
|The Be Good Tanyas - When Doves Cry|
(Feb 24, 2007 - 10:06)
|i could get into it if it werent for the banjo and the highhat. the voice and baseline are nice and low. i wish they would have left well enough alone.|

|The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist|

|what language is this sung in? some form of elvish?
the cover art rules. it reminds me of tim burton.
|M. Ward - Chinese Translation|

|interesting mix of the long vocal notes and the bouncy guitar line. its fun and sad at the same time.
|Neil Finn - Driving Me Mad|
(Jan 24, 2007 - 11:07)
love neil finn! this rolls along very nicely.
i agree. it just rolls along while remaining interesting. great to relax to.
|Aimee Mann - The Scientist (Live)|
(Jan 24, 2007 - 10:41)
|this version is significantly worse than the original. the coldplay version is moving and beautiful. Aimee sounds like she's reading a bus schedule.
|The Kooks - Match Box|
(Jan 10, 2007 - 10:18)
|fun melody. i like the british accent.
why do the album cover photos often look pixelated and very-low-res?
|The Be Good Tanyas - When Doves Cry|
(Jan 08, 2007 - 15:21)
...yikes!...my ears! a 3 only because it's a prince song...
This song gets a sucko-barfo *because* it butchers a prince song.
|David Bromberg - Sharon|
(Jan 08, 2007 - 13:40)
|i cant tell if this is a parody of this style of song or if he's just really bad at it. |
|Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick|
(Jan 05, 2007 - 13:49)
|The first time I heard the name Jethro Tull was in the movie Armageddon. I thought it was one of those classic rock acts that was popular enough to hear of but not popular enough to actually hear, even on classic rock stations. thanks Bill for putting this in the rotation. Its not a favorite but it expands my horizons.
Oscar: "You know, one thing that really drives me mad is when people think that Jethro Tull is just a member of the band."
Psychologist: "Who's Jethro Tull?"
Oscar: glares at psychologist

|Bruce Cockburn - The Coming Rains|
(Dec 19, 2006 - 13:15)
Sorry to stymie your sniggering, but neither he, nor anyone else, pronounces the ''ck'' in his surname.
I doubt the silent ck is some form of happy linguistic coincidence.
|Bird York - Haunting You|
(Dec 14, 2006 - 14:54)
|definitely K.D. Lang vibes.
I like her better on RP than on the West Wing.

|Béla Fleck - Moonlight Sonata|
(Nov 07, 2006 - 20:45)
|all the instruments in this song are interesting except the banjo. The banjo in this song sounds like the musical equivalent of a moose trying to find its way through a bakesale with very narrow isles.|
|Jack Johnson - Better Together|
(Aug 21, 2006 - 15:16)
all his songs sound the same
I agree they do sound the same, but when the right jack johnson song hits you at the right time.. its like riding a 10,000ft slip-n-slide covered in jello pudding.
|Neil Finn - Anytime|
(Aug 21, 2006 - 15:07)
I've been through a moment like what's descibed below in the first part of the lyrics. That moment when all the crashing of metal and glass is over and you are actually still alive/intact is a rare moment of clarity and joy at just being alive. This song catches me every time.
I see a dog upon the road
Running hard to catch a cat
My car is pulling to a halt
The truck behind me doesn't know
Everything is in the balance
Of a moment I can't control
And your sympathetic strings
Are like the stirrings in my soul
I could go at anytime
There's nothing safe about this life
I could go at anytime
Wow thanks for the lyrics and the interpretation. That really made joyful feeling of the song hit home.
|The Highwaymen - Highwayman|
(Aug 21, 2006 - 13:41)
|"I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below.
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound"

|Philip Glass - Metamorphosis Five|
(Mar 06, 2006 - 14:40)

|Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant|
(Nov 28, 2002 - 12:48)
|this is a holiday song? breaking the law, being jailed? Father Rapers??!! The storyteller has real talent and its even a well written story, but the content is not something id want to listen to on a holiday.|
