I'm over 30 and I like it. Obviously, I'm ... um... over 30 and I like it.

Roxy Music - Avalon
(Apr 02, 2008 - 19:04)
I think that same cover art was on a Molly Hatchet album 3->10
Counting Crows - Sullivan Street
(Apr 02, 2008 - 18:40)
I really love this album.
Natalie Merchant - Carnival (Live)
(Mar 30, 2008 - 19:07)
I have to agree with some early comments. This is flat. I saw NM summer of '02 and her band ROCKED.
Zero 7 - Crosses
(Mar 30, 2008 - 18:06)

Yes, I even bought some songs from I-tunes I liked pretty much on a quiet evening after work hearing them on RP. Now, listening to them always makes me ask: WHY??? Is there a special atmosphere coming with RP?

Yeah, absolutely there is! That's what building a set is all about. Try making playlists within iTunes that mix the songs in a way that they make sense to you. I have a list of driving songs, songs that remind me of someone I miss, etc. Drumming songs. Sleeping songs.

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale
(Mar 30, 2008 - 17:43)
Does anyone else remember the short-lived HSAS covering this?
H = Hagar (Sammy)
S = Schon (Neal - Journey)
A = Aaronson (Kenny. Billy Squire's bass player/The Firm?)
S = Shrieve (sp?) (Michael)
Afro Celt Sound System - Colossus
(Mar 30, 2008 - 17:29)
Doesn't Harry Shearer use this as the background music for his "Clinton-Something" skits on Le Show?
Spirit - Fresh Garbage
(Mar 30, 2008 - 16:53)
...and now we know what Oscar The Grouch orders at Elaine's...
Gregory and the Hawk - Boats and Birds
(Mar 30, 2008 - 16:45)
I like this. But I think she just said that I'm going to implode. That makes me slightly uneasy.
Porcupine Tree - My Ashes
(Mar 29, 2008 - 14:52)

Though not a LedZep fan that was my first imprssion too. After my first listen, I was very impressed.

It's an 8 for sure. I didn't mean to imply that I don't like it! It's like eating something that tastes different than what you expected. Like the first time that I drank flavored water. It made my brain get tangled up.
I just want to hear little Bobby Plant warbling, "Close the door..."
Porcupine Tree - My Ashes
(Mar 29, 2008 - 14:47)
Every time I hear this I think that it is Led Zep's "No Quarter".
The Beatles - In My Life
(Mar 29, 2008 - 12:28)
Wait a second...this was different. Where was the little solo in the middle bit? Is this the authentic version?
Pearl Jam - Wishlist
(Mar 29, 2008 - 12:23)
I don't like Pearl Jam but I wish I wrote this song.

"I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro's hood"
James McMurtry - Levelland (live)
(Mar 29, 2008 - 12:09)
I LOVE THIS!!
10
The studio version of this from "Where'd You Hide the Body?" moves a bit faster, and Robert Earl Keene does an ok cover...

I've always said that James does in 3:30 seconds what his dad does in 330 pages.
Foo Fighters - Everlong
(Mar 29, 2008 - 11:51)
I hate it when you guys fight on the boards.

I love Foo Fighters but I don't love when they dip into commercially sounding "modern rock" - like this. Still, I think Dave Grohl is great and FF is a terrific band. Now stop fighting. You're upsetting the children.
Phil Keaggy - We Can Work It Out

Suck it, Trebek!
The Beatles - Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows
(Mar 28, 2008 - 21:14)
Neil Aspinall...

The Decemberists - Summersong
(Mar 28, 2008 - 20:50)
I like this band. I sort of thought he was singing:

"My girl, all Lennon in curls
Lips parting like a flag along on fur
Cheese grand, the bend of her hand
Digging deep into the sweep of the sand

Inside her arrives with a lengthful eye
Inside her blows away and quietly gets swallowed by a whale"
Citizen Cope - Son's Gonna Rise

A resounding "Meh." from me, give me Everlast anytime over this crap.

Every time I hear this (WXPN plays it often'ish) I think it's Everlast. I like this song. But I always hope that this time it's Everlast.
James - Laid
(Mar 24, 2008 - 19:25)
"...but she only cums when she's on the top."

I was playing this in the record store I used to work at and I decided to actually listen to the lyrics one day and went, "Holy shi*. Can I play that in the store?!" The deed was done. I let it play on :-)

"You think you're so pretty" - I've heard that line before, or something close it. Anyone have ideas?
Dean & Britta - Words You Used to Say

okay then...it's not.

I, on the other hand, excitedly went "Ooo. That sounds like Hope-Whats-Her-Name from Mazzy Star!!"

Hoodoo Gurus - Leilani
(Mar 24, 2008 - 17:13)
Given the beat and the album art, the ONLY logical segue to this is something from T. Rex!

The Beatles - Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey
(Mar 24, 2008 - 16:53)

Er...um...I don't know...who wants to tell this guy something about the Beatles being from, you know, NOT America?
Michelle Shocked - Anchorage
(Feb 18, 2008 - 17:55)
When I worked for WRNR in Annapolis the station owner told me that I could bring anyone for an interview except for Michelle Shocked because "she swears on air".
Cracker - Something You Ain't Got
(Feb 18, 2008 - 17:48)
I love this with every bit of my cholesterol-laden heart.
Elvis Costello - Pump It Up
(Feb 18, 2008 - 17:40)
When Diana Krall was on tour in Juneau, Alaska I was her driver. She totally rode in MY CAR. That was before Elvis was on the scene. I took her to JCPenney's to buy shoes. Her guitar player, Russell was cruising with me one afternoon and we got pulled over because my car had a loud exhaust.
Oh yeah, and I like this song. I almost forgot.
DJ Schmolli - God's Gonna Cut You Down
(Nov 26, 2007 - 15:37)
I like it. Oddly enough, I was just thinking about requesting this from Bill (the Orb tune reminded me of it). I heard it once before and emailed DJ Schmolli about it.
WXPN has been playing worse attempts at mash-ups.
Joey Ramone - What A Wonderful World
(Nov 26, 2007 - 15:24)
I miss Joey
DJ Schmolli - God's Gonna Cut You Down
(Sep 27, 2007 - 19:20)
oh heck ya!
Tom McRae - End of the World News
(Jul 28, 2007 - 18:24)
And next should be "Five Years" by Bowie
Radiohead - Karma Police
(Jul 28, 2007 - 18:20)
It would be best to follow this with "Sexy Sadie" by the Fabs
Supergrass - Grace
(Jun 05, 2007 - 19:37)
This F'ing ROCKS.
John Lee Hooker - Boogie Chillen
(Jun 04, 2007 - 13:09)
DAY-YUM.
I'm gonna blow out my computers speakers on this one.
U2 - Desire
(Jun 04, 2007 - 11:50)

When I hear that clanging intro I try to time the "yeah!", but can never quite get it...

That "yeah" is one of the best exclamations in rock along with Lennon's "Ahhhhhh" towards the end of Ticket To Ride and Deborah Harry's "Woo!" in Dreaming.
World Party - Love is Best

Tracy Chapman with backup?

I did have to listen to the first few lines to see if it was World Party covering "For My Lover"(?) by Tracy Chapman. The melody is similar in spots.
Neil Young - Thrasher
(May 24, 2007 - 11:56)
Sweet Jesus. There is very little that is more pleasureable to hear than this.
Appliance - Pacifica

I always think that it's "Stupid Girl" or Folk Implosion.
Chris Isaak - This Time
(May 09, 2007 - 11:06)
He does a good live show. The thing I can't figure out is how a guy this good looking could feel so miserable to write such sad songs.
Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
(May 09, 2007 - 10:50)
drwinsotn wrote:
Great song - I highly recommend the Susan Tedeschi version of this gem.

There are many great versions of this song - but Bobby D. still does it the best. One of the few of his I can enjoy because I like how he sings it, not just because I like trying to sound like him while it's playing :-)">
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
(May 08, 2007 - 17:59)
I'm just being snarky here and commenting that I totally saw this segue coming and can proudly say that I would have done the same.
Patty Griffin=>Jeff Buckley
Patty Griffin - Heavenly Day
(May 08, 2007 - 17:54)
I can't wait until Patty and I get married. Anyone have her number?
Mocean Worker - Right Now

This album is one of the finest ever produced: raw, primal, powerful and devastating. If you don't end up in tears listening to it, then you have no heart.

Definitely. It's chilling and crushing. I've never heard a more powerful, more personal album. Tom Waits sometimes makes me think that maybe he's in grand torment, but he writes SO MANY songs like that, that I can't tell what might be real and what are character sketches aside from the obvious.
The Moody Blues - Tuesday Afternoon

Oh me oh my oh
Would you look at Miss Ohio?

And I still love the Birthday song more than any other song. Except maybe the Cigar song.
