Dengue Fever - Uku
(Dec 26, 2012 - 10:01)
This is OK...not fantastic, but at least it's different. I much prefer it to hearing Where The Streets Have No Name by U2 for the thousandth time. That's why I come to RP, for different stuff. Leave the standard radio stuff out, Bill. Thanks.

Rush - Tom Sawyer
(Nov 21, 2012 - 12:16)
My favorite band by a long shot & I've seen them at least once on every tour for the past 30 years. This is a great, richly-layered song, but frankly I'm burned out on it. They have SO many other brilliant songs that I'd rather hear at this point. RP is where I come to hear stuff I can't hear every day on local radio. Shake it up, Bill.

Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
(Aug 16, 2012 - 15:39)
Great song, but I'm very tired of it. I come to RP to hear stuff I don't hear every frickin day on the radio. RP is usually good about playing the more obscure stuff, but not this time.

Apocalyptica - Ruska
(Aug 16, 2012 - 14:53)
I'm sure someone else mentioned this, but the Halloween theme running through the background is creeping me out.

Toad The Wet Sprocket - Dam Would Break
(Aug 16, 2012 - 14:13)
Saw them in Annapolis 2 weeks ago & they played several new songs that will be on their new album...good stuff.

Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be
(Aug 16, 2012 - 13:54)
Is he saying "How does it feel like..."? That seems grammatically awkward. It should be either "How does it feel" or What does it feel like".

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
(Jul 06, 2012 - 13:15)
Surprising and wonderful that they included this in their last tour. A Sort of Homecoming is also a little-known but powerful song.

Elbow - Mirrorball
(Jul 03, 2012 - 14:05)
RP has been pushing this band for a while, and I just can't get into them. I know I'm swimming against the tide of public opinion here since the comments are generally glowing. And in a world full of dumb group names, Elbow is pretty high on the dumb scale.

Stevie Wonder - As
(May 16, 2012 - 14:27)
God, what passion in his voice. I've never heard this song before, but I think it's now my favorite Stevie song. Very intense and powerful.

R.E.M. - Nightswimming
(Oct 20, 2011 - 15:47)

R.I.P. R.E.M.

The Band - Up On Cripple Creek
(Sep 26, 2011 - 14:36)
I never understood what the fuss was about with this group. I guess you had to be there. Should be a decent 7, but I'm giving it a 5 because it's so overplayed and the lyrics are goofy.

Tom Waits - The Heart of Saturday Night
(Sep 23, 2011 - 13:45)
Geez, a Tom Waits song I like?? Shocking. I love his voice on this song, but on others it is nails-on-a-chalkboard.

!Deladap - Lautlos
(Sep 23, 2011 - 12:38)
I believe French and German music are the worst two types of music in the world.

Tom Waits - Jockey Full of Bourbon
(Aug 26, 2011 - 13:49)
This guy kills my mojo every time. Horrible.

Peter Murphy - Strange Kind of Love
(Aug 16, 2011 - 14:03)
ew, gross...the music and the picture on the album cover. Methinks he thinks he's a god or something.

Taj Mahal - The Calypsonians
(Jun 28, 2011 - 14:48)
Without the singing this is perfect elevator music. With the singing it's torture.

Beady Eye - Kill For A Dream
(Mar 10, 2011 - 14:49)
I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio.

Rush - The Enemy Within
(Mar 06, 2011 - 11:20)
Bliss.  I can't decide whether to air-drum, air-bass, or air-guitar.

Louis Prima - Jump, Jive, An' Wail
(Feb 20, 2011 - 13:37)
Oh crap, I wailed, then jumped, then jived.  Now I've fallen and I can't get up.

Wilco - Passenger Side
(Feb 20, 2011 - 12:59)
Sounds like bad Cracker.  And that's not good.

Tom Waits - Long Way Home
(Feb 04, 2011 - 14:49)
He has a voice like a thousand angels...moaning in agony and despair.

Wolfstone - J-Time
(Jan 19, 2011 - 17:04)
My first thought was "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash.  Man, that's showing my age.  And my taste.

Tom Waits - Downtown Train
(Jan 19, 2011 - 14:10)

If a man who can't sing can make a living as a singer, maybe I can be a professional golfer after all.

Coldplay - Violet Hill
(Jan 14, 2011 - 15:06)
Hey, Gwyneth Paltrow's husband can play some music, too!  And BTW, I LIKE it...so sue me.

Rolling Stones - Country Honk
(Jan 04, 2011 - 14:36)
The Girl With The Far Away Eyes is their best attempt at country.  This is pretty lousy.

Florence and The Machine - Cosmic Love (acoustic)
(Jan 03, 2011 - 14:45)
I'll take the Machine and leave the Florence.

Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4
(Nov 10, 2010 - 14:32)
I always heard that 25, 6, and 4 are bus lines in Chicago.  So you could either get to a destination by taking the 25 line or the 6 and 4 lines.

Tom Waits - Chocolate Jesus
(Nov 04, 2010 - 15:05)
Jesus, make it stop.  My ears are bleeding, and not in a good way.

Amanda Palmer - Astronaut (A Short History Of Nearly Nothing)
(Oct 27, 2010 - 14:47)
Does Amanda have an adam's apple?

Sniff 'n' The Tears - Driver's Seat
(Oct 27, 2010 - 13:35)
I'm amazed how many one-hit wonders have Greatest Hits albums.

Nick Drake - One Of These Things First
(Oct 05, 2010 - 13:48)
The music sounds like Charlie Brown background music.  Which I like...I just don't like Nick's voice.  Flame away, it just annoys me.  And I like Geddy Lee, for god's sake.

Randy Newman - Baltimore
(Aug 12, 2010 - 16:08)
As a Baltimor-on, I resemble this song.

The Black Keys - Tighten Up
(Aug 05, 2010 - 14:59)
I'm really liking this song, and the video is hilarious.

The Beatles - In My Life
(Jul 14, 2010 - 13:35)
If John Lennon couldn't make fanny packs cool, then no one ever will.

Goldfrapp - Utopia
(Jul 12, 2010 - 14:33)
I picture Madeline Kahn singing this in Blazing Saddles.

Toad The Wet Sprocket - Walk on the Ocean
(Jun 18, 2010 - 14:46)
Saw them in Annapolis, MD over Memorial Day weekend...the last show of the tour.  Also stayed at same hoted as the band and talked to Randy (the drummer) for a while.  Still no plans for new music, sorry to say.

Tom Waits - Little Drop of Poison
(May 23, 2010 - 11:34)
I gave it a 2 before and now realize that was generous.

Elvis Presley - Burning Love
(Apr 14, 2010 - 15:42)
I saw him at the Burger King yesterday.

A-Ha - Take On Me
(Apr 01, 2010 - 14:05)

This must be the only song on this CD.

David Byrne - Girls On My Mind
(Mar 15, 2010 - 15:49)
Terrible.  Atrocious.  And I like this guy.

Greg Kihn - Remember
(Mar 15, 2010 - 14:12)
Thought it was Widespread Panic at first.

Joan Armatrading - Love and Affection
(Mar 15, 2010 - 14:01)
I was going to slam this song when I thought it was a dude singing in a high voice, like Smokey Robinson.  But when I found out it was Joan A, I'm OK with it.  Go figure.

Iggy Pop - Lust for Life
(Mar 14, 2010 - 13:09)
Put some clothes on, man.  I see nothing of value in this guy.  Oh wait, I forgot he's a "trailblazer" of punk or whatever. I don't care.

U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
(Mar 14, 2010 - 09:22)
Very pleasantly surprised to see them play this at the Wash DC concert in the Fall...my favorite moment from the concert.  Brought me back to my first U2 concert in 1984 during this tour.

The Waterboys - Old England
(Mar 05, 2010 - 15:27)
Saw them open for U2 at the Tower Theater near Philly in 1984.  Never saw or heard much from them after that.

Peter Murphy - All Night Long
(Feb 17, 2010 - 13:46)

Any song played after that horrible Tom Waits crap should get a 10 just by comparison.

Freelance Whales - Hannah
(Jan 14, 2010 - 12:50)
Coming soon to a VH1 near you...

The Avett Brothers - The Perfect Space
(Jan 04, 2010 - 15:07)
I'm looking, I'm squinting, but I can't figure out what that thing is in the left of the cover...an arm?  a shoulder?  a hand?  This is why I don't get art.

Whiskeytown - 16 Days
(Nov 18, 2009 - 14:15)
The acoustic beginning sounds just like the GEICO bowling commercial.  But I think that's a 3 Doors Down song.

Mike Scott - Bring 'em all in
(Sep 24, 2009 - 14:48)

Don't quit your day job at Dunder Mifflin.

KT Tunstall - Funnyman
(Sep 04, 2009 - 13:34)

Cutest dimples in rock 'n roll.

The Idan Raichel Project - She'eriot Shel Ha'Chaim (Scraps Of Life)
(Sep 03, 2009 - 14:28)
Sounds like the Israeli David Byrne.

John Kongos - Tokoloshe Man
(Sep 03, 2009 - 13:53)
Dude must have anger issues.  Just incomprehensible yelling.  Terrible.

New Order - Blue Monday
(Aug 21, 2009 - 13:21)
This song (especially its synthesized drum track) is not aging well.

Nick Drake - From The Morning
(Aug 13, 2009 - 14:40)
Someday I'll agree with everyone and worship this guy.  Today is not that day.  I like the guitar, just don't dig the voice at all.  I find it annoying.

Euphoria - The Getaway
(Aug 03, 2009 - 15:35)
Terrible.  I just don't like any French music at all.  Except J'aurais toujours faim de toi...which is rock and not from France.  Aren't there any French rock songs?

Kali - Me Ki Sa Oule
(Jul 17, 2009 - 13:52)
every french song sounds exactly the same to me...same beat, same soppy romantic sound.  Aren't there any french-speaking punk bands?  Or metal?  Or country?

Depeche Mode - World In My Eyes
(Jul 16, 2009 - 14:56)
Hey, somebody got a casio keyboard for his birthday!

David Byrne - Girls On My Mind
(Jul 06, 2009 - 15:08)
I like a lot of his stuff, but not this.  Not up to his usual standards.

Gotan Project - Santa MarĂa (del Buen Ayre)
(Jul 01, 2009 - 14:11)

Pathetique.  Yuk.

Richard Shindell - Transit
(Jun 26, 2009 - 15:49)

Geez, Bill, one more depressing song in a row and I'm going to curl up in the fetal position on my floor for the rest of the day.

Vienna Teng - Augustine
(Jun 11, 2009 - 13:51)
I've wanted to like her music but never did until this song.  This one really grabs me.  Niiiiice.

The Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight
(May 17, 2009 - 14:37)
They look like they've taken a radio station tower hostage.  But in a friendly way.

Rufus Wainwright - Cigarettes And Chocolate Milk
(Apr 30, 2009 - 14:24)
My ears are bleeding.  And not in a good way.

Leonard Cohen - The Future
(Dec 11, 2008 - 12:38)
I had to look and see if it was Leonard Cohen or Tom Waits.  Can there be a tie for the worst singer who ever lived?

 jhorton wrote:
Still the worst singer who ever lived.

Just freaking horrible.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Two Step (alternate version)
(Nov 21, 2008 - 15:46)
Yes, some of his stuff is pop drivel, but this song is really good.  Maybe because it's not overplayed on the radio like his other stuff, but I find it really well done.  Give the guy some credit.

Brian Eno - Dead Finks Don't Talk
(Nov 10, 2008 - 13:55)
This guy is a god at helping others create better music.  He should stick to that.  His own music (if this is any indication of it) is horrendous.

The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
(Oct 27, 2008 - 15:16)
Godlike.  God has this on his iPod.

Jim Carroll Band - People Who Died
(Oct 20, 2008 - 14:50)
Terrible...the voice, lyrics, and nails-on-a-chalkboard guitar in the background all make me want to jump out my window.  I'm on the first floor, but it would be a symbolic gesture.

Yello - The Race
(Sep 23, 2008 - 15:52)
"Welcome to It's Academic!  I'm your host, Mac McGarry!"  (Gotta be from DC to get this one)

Nick Drake - Which Will
(Sep 15, 2008 - 14:20)

Like the guitar, but the voice grates on me.  Maybe someday I'll appreciate him, but now is not the time.

Colin Meloy - We Both Go Down Together
(Aug 18, 2008 - 13:59)
Give the guy a break...he just jumped off a cliff with his chick friend.

Leonard Cohen - Waiting For A Miracle
(Jul 29, 2008 - 14:24)
Gong!

Nick Drake - One Of These Things First
(Jun 03, 2008 - 13:47)
The music is good but I really dislike his voice; it just grates on me. And yet Rush is my favorite band, and most people hate Ged's voice. Go figure.
Buena Vista Social Club - De Camino a La Vereda
(May 27, 2008 - 14:03)
I've heard their music before and liked it, but this just sounds like the trio in Chi-Chi's that plays by your table.
Kate Bush - Army Dreamers
(Apr 24, 2008 - 13:56)
Worst song I have ever heard on RP.
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
(Feb 11, 2008 - 15:10)
Just saw U2 in 3D at the IMAX over the weekend. I highly recommend it. A little preachy and serious at times, but overall a great flick. The crowd in Buenos Aires is insane.
Dave Alvin - Highway 61
(Feb 11, 2008 - 14:56)
Oops. My 2 rating brought it down. And I was being generous.
Rush - The Enemy Within
(Dec 05, 2007 - 15:00)
oh my god oh my god oh my god. My favorite band of all time!! And a rare one too...even I'm sick of Tom Sawyer on the radio all the time. And it's hanukkah, and Gary Weinrib is jewish. How appropriate.
Neko Case - Maybe Sparrow
(Dec 05, 2007 - 14:41)
In my car right now. I mean this CD, not Neko herself. That would be weird.
The Staple Singers - I'll Take You There
(Nov 28, 2007 - 16:28)
Where can I get my hands on a suit like that dude's? He's stylin'!!
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Killing The Blues
(Oct 24, 2007 - 14:46)
What beautiful long blonde hair. Oh, and hers isn't bad either.
Tori Amos - Bouncing Off Clouds
(Oct 16, 2007 - 13:43)
I actually like this song, but it's possibly the worst album cover ever.
Neil Young - Ordinary People
(Oct 10, 2007 - 15:08)
Bill should add a GONG button to the web page, like in the Gong Show. This song would be gonged.
Led Zeppelin - Tangerine
(Oct 01, 2007 - 13:12)
Great Zep song that is fortunately not burned out on radio. Big Head Todd does a really nice version of this song in their live record, too. BTW, it cracks me up how many high school kids are wearing Led Zeppelin shirts around.
The Kinks - Celluloid Heroes
(Sep 20, 2007 - 13:47)
Gosh, what hatred for this song! I love it. One of my favorite Kinks tunes.
Cake - Conroy
(Sep 06, 2007 - 12:49)
Arco Arena is a waaaay better instrumental.
Cake - Sheep Go to Heaven
(Aug 30, 2007 - 13:55)
Let them meet Cake.
Catherine Wheel - Eat My Dust
(Oct 27, 2006 - 11:59)
I'm jumping out my office window in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
Rush - The Enemy Within
(Oct 16, 2006 - 14:13)
YESSS! Never thought I'd hear my favorite group here. This is the icing on the RP cake. Now someone please explain how Rush isn't in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!! 32 years of musical excellence and integrity isn't enough, I guess.
Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
(Sep 20, 2006 - 13:55)
LOVE this group. SICK of this song. Play any other M.O. and I'd be thrilled.
They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul
(Sep 20, 2006 - 13:23)
TMBG rules! More! And I haven't seen moshing at their shows, but lots of pogo-ing.
Squeeze - Another Nail For My Heart
(Sep 20, 2006 - 13:12)
Whoa, I saw Aimee Mann w/ Squeeze at Hammerjack's in B'more a bunch of years ago. Nice back-to-back on RP.
Toad The Wet Sprocket - Windmills
(May 30, 2006 - 14:23)
3 days til the Toad concert here in Baltimore. Hope they still get along together. Looking forward to a good show.
They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul
(May 26, 2006 - 12:06)
One of my favorite bands of all time, seen them numerous times. Please play more TMBG!! Always good for a laugh.
'til Tuesday - Coming Up Close
(May 12, 2006 - 08:06)
Oh Aimee, how I love thee. Can't wait to see her in Balt MD next month. Totally dig her voice and deeeep lyrics.
