Entrain - Dancin' in the Light (live)

Saw Entrain years ago at a small venue in Philly. Great high energy show with multi-instumentalists moving all over the stage. Unfortunatly this energy seemed unable to be transmitted to cd. But this tune DOES kick ass!!!

I was thinking this and then found this:

One of the most unique things about the song, however (especially the Harpers' version), is the striking melodic and arrangement similarity to U2's "With or Without You." If you get a chance to listen to the two songs back-to-back, you'll wonder how they got away with it.

James McMurtry seems to have a special niche depicting dark, menacing subcultures far from the experiences of most of us who are writing and listening here. I would rather hear lives of fear sung about than experience same. I do not perceive his attitude as being one of superiority. It seems to me that his goal is to convey look-over-your-shoulder lives in which someone is menaced . . . in a tone of warning. Who else does exactly that? Who else does that with such original turns of phrase (yes, you may cite Bob Dylan!).

When I was listening to this, it dawned on me that I can't recall the last time that I've heard "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" played in its entirety over any broadcast medium. All we ever hear is parts I-V. Some RP listeners who weren't exposed to much PF might have never heard parts VI-IX. Gilmour's performance on the pedal steel is some of his best work. After seeing it in concert, the memory still sends shivvers up my spine! It's a shame to keep it unplayed for so long.

How about playing the flipside sometime? The title song makes a great lead-in. I've found it better to include "Wish You Were Here" and get the whole long transition to "Shine On" than to try to find a place to fade into part VI. (Grandpa: "Kids, during the Golden Age of Rock and Roll, bands made entire albums that were meant to be listened to all at once. That's right, for one brief, glorious period in time, Rock music was more than just singles...") It also makes a nice bumper to separate parts I-V and VI-IX, which weren't meant to be played back-to-back.

So Bill, do you have the guts to play a 30' set?

Dude I love that!!!! Albums... meant to be listened to...Thats one thing... but from start to finish???? No way!!!~ LOL!!! Great observation.

Yeah, well, given the choice between musical artistry, integrity, and total loyal fan base or the prospect of money, more money, and more money I may be inclined towards the latter too. Anyway, I've posted my disappointment with this band's new album before and I will again. It is not up to their quality work.

Why, because something maybe more "listenable" than previous releases, does that make a band a sell out. Thats what your saying aren't you? This is a very good Gomez disc. Listen closer it may just be your ears are not hearing the growth.

I've learned to accept the fact that people hate Radiohead, and not only the stupid ones. They are a polarizing sort of band, and I think this album is the magnet.
