Eric Clapton - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (live) (Mar 29, 2013 - 03:22) | Damn Blue Meanies took George and John. As someone who was around when the Fab Five took the the US by storm, one of my all time favorite albums is the White Album and this has to be my all time #1 song Thank you George where-ever you are. The concert with Clapton and Prince "jamming" this song was out of this world and Prince didn't play 2nd fiddle to Eric. I still think Clapton is a huge schmuck for just moving in and taking Georges wife .. GH and EC were best of friends,, so I guess George was a poor judge of character in both EC and his EX. I'm not nearly as forgiving as I would have had "Louie" break every finger on EC's hands.....with a sledge hammer.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue On Black (Jan 28, 2013 - 17:39) | Compare this with the mountains of C&W and it's average. Today's country is yesterdays R&R. Mark Knopfler - Don't You Get It (Dec 26, 2012 - 18:10) | I had been sitting here all day working with a listen to RP and then Knopfler's tune was spinning. My toes went ballistic and I did the air dance in the chair. Where is that Mark that put out some really kick butt music ? Interesting direction into ballads, but he must have a R&R soul down there somewhere, because he is so good at it. I believe you can grow old gracefully while playing R&R all the way to when your heart explodes. If ya got it ya got it .. . Rock on you gray devils.. You have to wonder if Jagger wears a truss, and why Richards looks like he stuck his head out of a 90 mph car into a flock of turkeys and took several direct hits. I guess some of us are just lucky to grow old, the "graceful" part is just *self-delusion. * Nothing is so difficult as not deceiving oneself.” ― Ludwig Wittgenstein

U2 - Please (Live From Rotterdam) (May 15, 2012 - 01:57) | stunix wrote: I dont believe politics has much of a place in music
Politics has been an integral part of music for as long as we have recorded our music in one from or another. Music has been used as propaganda to emotionally charge those who were going into battle and those supporting either side. The Native American's song and dance preformed prior to their war parties is alive today, as is the music and dance of African nations where drums, dance, musical instruments, and song implored the warrior to superhuman feats. Because this music has been passed down for thousands of years we know that music has been integral to activities such as warding off evil spirits, victory over ones enemies. Humans are political animals and politics seems to bring out the music in the human.Perhaps the most famous voices of protest at the time of the Civil War, at least in America, were the Hutchinson Family Singers. From 1839, the Hutchinson Family Singers became well known for their songs supporting abolition .A topical parlor song that is arguably a precursor of environmental movement is an 1837 musical setting of "Woodman, Spare That Tree!"
For some of us the music of the 60's during the war in Vet Nam will never be forgotten and the artists like Dylan,Hendrix, CS&N Young, the Eagles, CCR, The Fish (What's that spell ?) and the list goes on and on. Politics have always given people a reason to sing out in support, protest, sadness and joy, and I believe this will always be the case.

George Harrison - All Things Must Pass (Apr 28, 2012 - 02:06) | I could have easily enjoyed a couple more life-times of George's music. Loved the Wilbury's and wonder what was inspiration triggered End Of The Line . George always traveled with at least two and often more ukuleles in the trunk of his car. He pulled into Petty's drive one day and told Tom to pick out one of the uku's, but Petty said " I don't know how to play one of those" George said " Hey no problem, I'll teach you, grab one," so Petty did, and after an hour of so Petty had picked up the chord patterns and they were jamming away. The beauty of music is it can go anywhere at anytime in the mind of the singer/songwriter, and that fantasy is what can endear us to their songs. Musicians have been storytellers for thousands of years, and believe it or not some of their lyrics were not written for historical accuracy. I was up the road a piece at the University of Washington, during the same time. A bunch of us "hippies" had rented a big old house and were working (yes hippies worked) our way through collage. I remember Saturdays in Seattle, sitting on the warm lawn, taking in that seldom seen golden orb (the sun), stoned, shirtless, with long-hair blowin in the wind. We drove the "respectable" neighbors to tears and tearing their hair out as we put huge box speakers on the porch and cranked the amp to 10.. After a month of Saturdays I'm sure the neighbors for blocks around knew every word to every Zeppelin tune. Ah, life was good then, so simple, sex, drugs, rock & roll, retaking physics 251 three times until the prof gave me a sympathy C. Those Summers in Seattle were as close to heaven as I have ever been, and I have been searching for a time machine to go back ever since.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Lover's Touch (Mar 19, 2012 - 04:09) | I have a very hard time rating any song done by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell lower than a 9. I think of Free Fallin', I won't back down, You wrecked me babe and Runnin' down a dream, his solo work on Wild flowers, (although Campbell did the lead work) to some wonderful tunes on The Traveling Wilburys I and II and so, so much more. Campbell is one of the American guitarist greats, the guys leads are as good as R & R gets. I keep thinking I have to cherish anything the Heartbreakers do as if we get another album out of the group it will a surprise. Whenever I've been driving for 3-4 hours and want something to light me up, or just can't handle an album with 50% filler it's Petty to the rescue. Tom and co. are solid gold.

Bob Dylan - One More Cup Of Coffee (Mar 17, 2012 - 04:14) | I hearken back to the early 60' s when Dylan's first albums were finding play at underground FM stations. Albums like.—— The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan—The Times They Are a-Changin—- Highway 61 Revisited—and later Blonde on Blonde By 1967 the US was deeply involved a the conflict in Southeast Asia. Friends were coming home in boxes, and by 1969 Nixon was sure that N.Vietnam could be bombed into peace. By then a dozen of my friends and a first cousin were dead and those of us in that age group who were still at home wanted to stay here. But the draft had started calling guys up, and many of us had decided we didn't see Vietnam as a threat to the US, and certainly not worth the lives of thousands of men who were dying there. Dylan wrote approx. 81 anti-war songs during that time (1962-1974) some of them classics like: "With God on Our Side", A Hard Rain's a Gonna' Fall, Masters of War, "Blowin in the Wind" and those of us who loved our country but didn't agree with the politics of that war, found a friend in Dylan. He spoke for us, justified us, and unified us. We were by no means the "Chickens" Nixon and co. called us, had any county attacked us, we would have been there to defend in a heartbeat. By 1974 more than 58,000 Americans were killed in Vietnam while over 153,000 were wounded, and the country was sadly divided. But the war was over and it was time for the USA to heal. Those who didn't live through it can't know what people like Dylan meant to us, how he and others like him helped bring an end to the seemingly never-ending caskets covered by US flags being flown back to the states day after day. If Dylan and others like him helped save one life, they accomplished their purpose. I will always be grateful for their support, they will always have a special place in my heart as they did what I wish I could have. They hastened an end to a war that was tearing this country apart and ending the lives of so many of it's finest.. To the day I die, I will be thankful for Dylan's contribution to life, and for the lives of my friends, who are still with me today.

Interesting observation. When you see Joe and hear him talk about his upbringing and music you quickly realize Joe has one speed, and that's full bore, and he looks like he is just running the scales at times during his playing. Talented but not your laid back Southern Blues player stereo-type, not even close.

Indeed he is !! We have Robbie to thank for a lot of wonderful music from "The Band." Robertson has played with, and or for, just about every talented musician you can think of. Bob Dylan hired The Band (then called "The Hawks") to be his touring band. Their first album, ''Music from Big Pink'', was released in 1968. The concert, called "The Last Waltz" and held in San Francisco on Thanksgiving night 1976, featured the Band playing their own music as well as playing alongside guests that included Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison. ''The Last Waltz'' album was released in 1978 along with Scorsese's film of the same name. It has been regarded ever since as one of the best concert films ever made. For a short but good read concerning "The Band" and specifically Robertson, check out: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBand?action=source It amazed me to learn just how deep Robertson's roots are spread around in the world of R&R as well as folk rock. It's a real pleasure to hear Robertson back on the beat again (13 years since his last album) as he is such a highly talented and gifted singer/songwriter. PS In 1994 Danko and Hudson performed with Robbie Robertson when "The Band" was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There is a lot of interesting and historical information concerning the "The Band," and their interface with R&R, at the site named above. Robertson will no doubt please a lot of folks with this new disc—-A big welcome back Robbie and a big thank you for all you have shared with the world of music lovers.

This is a great album —- in this song the instrumentation is super —A kickin' tune, but at times in the vocals, Jay sounds like he is in a tug of war with the lyrics, straining to pull them from the sheet music. The polititians (best government money can buy) won't reinstate the draft for fear of public retaliation. Hey it's a free country, and if you want to blow people up and be blown up in some foreign land, you WILL be provided a venue. While the powers that be may not have retained a damn thing about the horrors of the war in Nam, they did however learn that the "Draft" will bring the American public to their feet.. "gray ponytails" would be but a small fraction of those who would protest a system of unwilling consignment to killing and being killed. Party on Garth !~!

For me, there is something not authentic about her. And yes, I've heard those Melissa songs and many others. Chrissy, Exene, Janis, Annie Lennox, Ashley Cleveland, Joan Armatrading, & such are much stronger voices for this humble listener.
Adding Bonnie, Tracey, Aretha, Grace (for her pioneering work) & Patsy Cline.

Tom Waits - Ol'55 (Nov 10, 2010 - 23:03) |
"Ol' '55" is a song written and recorded by Tom Waits. It is the first track on Waits' debut album, Closing Time, released in 1973. The song was covered with greater chart success by the Eagles, released on their 1974 album On the Border. Waits himself has been critical of cover versions of the song, saying he was "not that particularly crazy about rendition of it ... I thought their version was a little antiseptic." - - - — — - -: From Wikipedia
Henley probably took that as a compliment. I wonder what Tom would have said if the Beach Boys had covered the song ?

Eagles - Hotel California (live acoustic) (Nov 07, 2010 - 13:07) | Back to back 10's... Henley's drive for perfection can make their music a bit repetitive as he demands note for note, no variance, from venue to venue...in my time these guys were among the top 3-4 American bands, and in the top ten world wide. Walsh sure didn't do them any harm either. A sad/sour note concerning the Eagles is, the guy that does almost all the lead guitar work "Bernie Leadon" is awesome but doesn't get the credit he deserves as he is always 5 feet out of the spotlight. Also, hats off to Syd Barrett (RIP), Richard Wright (RIP) and Nick Mason. In 1993 there was a horrible Nautical Disaster in which it seems a morning freighter was, indeed, Built to Spill. Off the British Columbia coast, morning spilt from the damaged vessel across the country, reversing the natural order in which those in the east wake up first. Many of us in the west were traumatized by having been woken up much too early, during deep REM sleep. Greenpeace members, who would have been the first to point out the inherit dangers of shipping morning, were too dazed to organize themselves. The morning industry has only grown since then, controlled by a few Japanese exporters whose red-sun flags remind us who controls whom. And while there have been no other incidents, many Canadians go to bed nervous each night, not knowing which would be worse: if morning never came, or if it came too soon.
Rust Never Sleeps.

I've heard that chancellor has consulted Arizona to find out how to borrow some time that Az. has banked away by not falling for the old "Spring ahead, Fall back" crapola. . . . At first our citizens spoke out against this thing, by an impulse natural to their training. Today they have turned, and their voice is the other way. What caused the change? Merely a politician's trick - a high-sounding phrase, a blood-stirring phrase which turned their uncritical heads: Our Country, right or wrong! An empty phrase, a silly phrase. It was shouted by every newspaper, it was thundered from the pulpit, the Superintendent of Public Instruction placarded it in every schoolhouse in the land, the War Department inscribed it upon the flag. No, PF has had a political side, which they let show. I suppose you can call much of the UK's vs. the media politics in the late 60's early 70's dark. (specifically when Mary Whitehouse went after the BBC and other UK media on a morality campain.) And then there was the 1-2 punch with Whitehouse & Thatcher.. more dark matter. (For the British comedy show, see The Mary Whitehouse Experience.)
Mary Whitehouse CBE (13 June 1910 - 23 November 2001) was a British campaigner for what she perceived to be values of morality and decency derived from her Christian beliefs. She began by focusing her efforts on the broadcast media, which she regarded as highly influential, and where she felt these values were particularly lacking. Later, she made notable interventions over publications and theatrical productions of which she disapproved, becoming involved in several cases of litigation. She was the founder and first president of the National Viewers' and Listeners' Association, now known as mediawatch-uk. ——— (From Wikipedia)

Titled "An Evening With Salvador Allende", the concert featured Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and Ochs;
The Soviet musician Alexander Gradsky created the rock opera Stadium (Стадион, Stadion) in 1985 based on the events surrounding Jara's death;
In the late 1990s British actress Ms. Emma Thompson started to work on a screenplay, which she planned to use as the basis for a movie about Victor Jara; the movie would feature Antonio Banderas – another fan of Victor Jara – as Jara himself where he would sing some of his songs and Emma Thompson as Victor Jara's British wife Joan Jara; Portuguese folk band called Brigada Victor Jara is named after him;
The Southwestern American band Calexico open their 2008 album Carried to Dust with the song "Victor Jara's Hands". In memory of Mr. Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez. ** 8 / 9 ** I'm bumping this, thanks for the information..

(not that there's anything remotely wrong with CSN...)" There was a time for CSN&Y, as there is a time for PT, but don't forget who came first and who's influence PT has available to learn & emulate. They didn't pull "their" music out of a hat. PT should be so lucky as to influence as many artists and the whole of the music world, as CSN&Y have. Today, behind every great group is another great group from yester-year. It's evolution, and if PT was identical to CSN&Y and some of the Pink Floyd influence I hear in their music, they would be just another R&R band. Yes, that's Joe's calling card. When people hear him not having seen him, many see him as a Black blues artist, but that's not the case. Joe's has had a distinguished career rocking out, however, he does cover a lot of music by others. Ten Years After - Let The Sky Fall (Nov 11, 2009 - 15:43) | As I walked into the room in the middle of this song, I thought I was hearing the bridge in the Allman Brothers "Can't you see" .....I don't know which song came first, but there are some exact cord patterns in each.. ..
Alvin wrote some of the most controversial lyrics of the time... when he wrote: "Everywhere is freaks and hairies / Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity / Tax the rich, feed the poor / Till there are no rich no more."——A.Lee
And while it was taken as a pro-conservative message when taken out of context, the song as a whole seems to suggest that while there is much social discontent and animus between the schools of thought, perhaps Lee was: "leaving it up to you, cuz I don't know what to do " —-A. The gang conducted paramilitary activities in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the 1970s. It was most notorious for its late-night abduction, torture and murder (by throat slashing) of random Catholic civilians. The Shankill Butchers killed at least 30 people (including a significant number of Protestants) in sectarian attacks, paramilitary feuds, personal grudges and bombing raids. Despite extensive police resources being channelled towards the capture of those responsible, a wall of silence, created by a mixture of fear and respect in the Shankill community, provided few leads that could be followed.
According to Conor Cruise O'Brien, the Butchers, led by Lenny Murphy, brought a new, frightening level of paramilitary violence to a country already hardened by death and destruction.<1> While the majority of the gang were eventually caught and received the longest combined prison sentences in British legal history, Murphy and his two chief lieutenants escaped prosecution. He was later killed in November 1982 by the Provisional IRA, likely acting with loyalist paramilitaries who perceived him as a threat."

The full song clips of BB King, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray are enought to stir the soul and Art Neville's song "Six Strings Down" is on target for the long lost genius of Vaughan. The *interviews are placed in the wrong places but are still good material. The true highlights are the clips of Stevie Ray doing what he did best - playing the blues in another world." ———————————————-| Each interview had the highest of accolades for a musician who touched the heart and soul of ALMOST everyone who was lucky enough to see him play live, or to share the stage with Stevie. Your opinion borders blasphemy, you will find little support anywhere, and Vaughan played to an international crowd of admirers. While you may be tongue-in-cheek, if you take the time to watch Vaughan tapes/CD's, you will note that when live in concert, he never played his work the same way twice, as he was constantly changing, innovating, truly a personal touch. His music is a combination of talent, genius, and a gift of "creativity." SRV was the real deal, one of a kind, and history is in the process of reflecting it. He has been deeply missed. RIP SRV.

Peter Gabriel's eclectic approach is always an enjoyable listen. I guess we have him to thank for another great voice, Phil Collins. David Gilmour - On An Island (Sep 03, 2009 - 17:57) | One wo/man's ceiling, is another wo/man's floor. In their day Waters, and Gilmour earned enough
poetic capital to write total crap for the rest of their lives and still be par with any and all others. I happen to like this piece as it shows another side (diversity) of Gilmour not often seen, and I'm sure that if "Dark Side of the Moon were to be released today, any of these new generation rap-happy critics would be thumbs down-ing one of the most brilliant and cohesive albums ever made. Perhaps infected with "Ghetto Envy" and who pedestal the self-serving, money over art, 'gangster's regurgitation they consider music i.e. woud be better off spending their time as critics of genre that "Thanks the Gods" Bill doesn't play. Gilmour is a rock and roll icon and has been since the late 60's. Which speaks volumes to his talent, innovation, and pioneering of a sound which is Pink Floyd's alone. Also, hats off to Syd Barrett (RIP), Richard Wright (RIP) and Nick Mason. I wonder what many of those who expect but one speed/style and genre from Pink Floyd (Gilmour-Waters) think of Stevie Ray Vaughn's slow, melodic, and graceful pieces i.e. Diversity is what makes the "very best" better.

We (McCann and me) exchanged niceties; he was on a break from playing the lounge. I was trying desperately to keep the conversation interesting for Mr. McCann while impressing the new love of that night with my VAST knowledge (sic) of the genre. So, I asked Less what he thought of the CTI label with Benson, Hancock, Klugh and specifically Benson's "White Rabbit" album as I had burned through one copy and was working on a well worn 2nd. Hell, I thought they were a great jazz syndicate and I had every CTI album I could lay my hands on.... Well you'd a thought I'd called McCann's mother a dirty name... Les just said "sheeeeeeeeit " got up, and quickly disappeared back into the lounge, leaving his plate half-full. I felt like ducking under a table and committing suicide with a fork (instead of my mouth). Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Jan 27, 2009 - 18:34) |
For those who have rated Pink Floyd in the 1-2-3-4 's this may be of some interest —or not.. But, you have to admit this just isn't typical of a 1-2-3-4 rated group.......
"Delicate Sound of Thunder (the album) reached #11 on the Billboard 200 and is currently listed as Triple Platinum in U.S. sales - it was certified Gold and Platinum on January 23, 1989 and Triple Platinum in April 1997.
Delicate Sound of Thunder became the first rock album to be played in space, as Soviet cosmonauts took it aboard Soyuz TM-7. The members of Pink Floyd were present at the launch." —- Niosound — 2005
And according to Wikipedia:
Sales of the album "The Dark Side of the Moon" worldwide total over forty million as of 2004, with an average of 8,000 copies sold per week and a total of 400,000 in the year of 2002 - making it the 200th best-selling album of that year nearly three decades after its initial release. It is estimated that one in every fourteen people in the U.S. under the age of fifty owns or owned a copy of this album.<18> According to an 2 August 2006 Wall Street Journal article, although the album was released in 1973, it has sold 7.7 million copies since 1991 in the U.S. alone and continues to log 9,600 sales per week domestically.<19>
So, you don't have to dig their music, but like the 7 Wonders of the World, Pink Floyd's music commands respect. Like me mudda use to sez: " If youze can't giff Pink Floyd are 9-10 youze deficient in da head.
The LP was released before platinum awards were introduced by the RIAA on 1 January 1976, and it initially only received a gold disc. However, after the introduction of the album on CD, The Dark Side of the Moon would eventually be certified platinum in 1990. On 6 April 1998, the RIAA certified the album at 15x platinum, denoting sales of fifteen million in the United States alone - making it their biggest-selling album there (The Wall is 23 times platinum, but as it is a double album this only signifies sales of 11.5 million copies <20>).

Talking Heads - (Nothing But) Flowers (Jan 27, 2009 - 17:34) |
DB will be gracing our city with a mid Feb 09 concert. I have secured 3rd, mid-row tickets and as a avid fan of DB and the TH's since the mid-70's this will be orgasmic, as I have never seen him live. Perhaps I need my stilts as this guy puts everyone on their feet and rockin' as he's burnin' down the house !! I have always thought his eclectic approach to his very rhythmic music and imaginative lyrics set him apart from the "nifty fifty" crowd. DB never joined the —-"keep up with the lead rat —grinding out—publish or perish—- generic crap spewing groups" who are a dime a dozen. DB is a virtual plethora of novelty as he's burnin' down the house !! I'm not worthy ......

Grab your Webster's and check "allegory" — you can trust me when I tell you Beck didn't have to be around when the concept was coined to later conform to a position or platform that has been viable for 15,000 years. Having said that, lighten up, self-medicate, beat up on some defenseless old person, it was just a joke about singing out of both sides of your mouth.

Tom Petty - Something Big (Jan 13, 2009 - 08:50) | Mike Campbell like Lindsey Buckingham is one of those amazing talents who is some how underrated. Petty is a channel for brilliance, his lyrics are nuanced and catchy and Campbell's licks NEVER get old.
It's nice to see Petty finally recognized world wide as the talent he is. From Mudcrutch to the Traveling Wilburys, Petty has laid down some of the most memorable music of our time. So true, and diversity is what keeps the ugh's and aahh's coming. No-one had a corner on the Doors, as a member of the class of "67" I watched the flower of Rock and Roll bloom and grow and bloom again and again. The Doors are one of the many very talented corner-stones of R & R . Be it Muddy, Buddy, Roy, or Jim they all had a hand in the formation of a celebration of life and times through their very visceral music. Sad that many of the most creative simply couldn't live with the demons in their head or the amount of dope it took to quill their madness. Some people just never pulled the rip-cord.

John Lennon - Instant Karma! (Jan 13, 2009 - 05:42) | John had class and soul, some of his erratic behavior may have been a reaction to a very unpredictable wife who never saw John as a man. In interviews she consistantly referred to John as "never having grown up." She sez she dumped John on her girlfriend because it would help him mature. Oko bad-mouthed John in front of John, and if he loved her, it must have kept him in a world of pain. Paul was the R&R star... writting drivil for the nifty fifty. Wings .... now how many meaningful tunes do you remember from wings..? 2 or 3 ? IMHO John and George wrote from the heart and soul to the heart and soul. Who still gets the most play ? John's music will still be heard when Sir Paul is long forgotten save for being the bass player in the Beatles. If your still grooving to the lyric "La la la la la la lovely Linda/With the lovely flowers in her hair." you may need help ! You're probably in the Patula Clark fan club too, who did "Downtown" advice to rural gangs,wine-o's, and Gray Hound Bus riders.

Arctic Monkeys - Do Me A Favour (Nov 08, 2008 - 22:34) | Nice stuff, it's always Arctic Monkeys, or Porcupine Tree when I hear a "new" tune I like. I believe these peopl have talent. I've been lucky enough to see Ry in Seattle several times and was always very impressed with his command of music theory. He's like a Warren Zevon—with a great command over stringed instruments. In the course of time many of these dear, and special folk , whom I really on for the truths in such an arbitrary concept as opinion; and as such many of those close to me have voiced a contempt for the subject and thus rejected any substance with non-to-certain emphasis, while on the other hand there are those who's gracious thoughts have not fallen upon deaf ears when they came to me in complete trust and voiced their support for matters of wide breath and depth. It is with these clear and concise facts that I stand with my friends. . .. . 1868, Politician's speech while running for office. (How appropriate to today's opinions on musicians religious beliefs)

Don't pity me
Have pity on yourself
You might know Jesus but you'll all join in hell

Swing so crazy like the way you ride
Maybe I'm gonna fry in hell
But I feel good when I burn myself
In a smokey place, In my girlfriends car
Threw out the map when we drove to far
Jesus is big
Jesus is strong
Jesus'll kill you if you don't get along
Jesus can swing
Jesus has skills
Go on & try it if you don't believe he will
Jump Back, Jump Back
Givin' me a heart attack
Fall down, Fall down
Sweeter than a cherry bomb
Sweet Thing, Sweet Thing
Steppin' on your violin
Space Boy, Fly Girl
Living in the underworld
Shine On Sister!
Don't need a book to put your hand in the fire
Shine On Sister!
Come on in cause it's cold outside
Jesus is cool
Jesus is scared
Baby you are the only car I drive
Foolin around
Foolin myself
Baby you are the only car I drive
Easy to touch
Easy to find
Baby you are the only car I drive
Melts in my mouth

David Byrne has always been at the head of his class in his genre of music, which is a mild alternative type of sound. If ya like DB his
stuff really rocks. I really find it odd that there are folks that find pieces in the 1 or 2 class as the guys music is intact and tight, it deserves at least a 6-7 for it's content, but then what do I know I love his sound and give him a 9er...

Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues (Feb 16, 2008 - 20:12) |
Oh my my with " Don't take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." Dylan created a new culture with just that one line.
More obscure but with no less impact to all of us who still were captured under his spell, Dylan casts with seeming so little effort, intuitional bits like "Watchtower" or a line like "The Pump don't work cuz the vandals took the handle."
Called the "Greatest songwriter of all time" by Paul Simon is no small compliment!
Check out Mr. Zimmerman's 2006 "Modern World" he enjoyed doing this sweet sweet album, I want to live in the world we tried so hard to produce with the assistance of the prophets like Bob Dylan. I laugh when I think about "Big Pink" where and Robinson and the rest of "The Band" spend so much time on the floors nose down "resting." Too much of the "gotta rest" blues till they went their own way out of an intractable sense of self-preservation. While lady and I look out tonight from desolation row.

Paul Simon called Bob Dylan the "greatest songwriter of all time." So tip yer hat or not,
Mr.Zimmerman is a HISTORICAL INSTITUTION. Now I may not like the sound of Big Ben belting out 23 hundred hours but that's my problematic sensitivity. I'd love to see them for the 3rd time.

Savoy Brown - Train to Nowhere (Sep 03, 2007 - 10:05) | I first heard Savoy Brown in the early or mid-70's,
and oft wondered if they had been earlier or later
they wouldn't have been better known & perhaps more famous ?
During their peak, there were so many living legends
making music! Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Stones, Cream, Beatles, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Creedence, Jethro Tull,Chuck Berry, Van Morrison, Santana,The Who,The Eagles, The Guess Who, Three Dog Night, C,S,N, & Y, and god knows I have missed 5 X this many who were cranking out rock and roll that was and still is "Blow you away ROCK and ROLL." Song after song. This in no way demeans how good Savoy Brown was but the music "of the day" was of an incredibly high standard. Oh ya, and The Moody Blues, The Band, Janis, Deep Purple, Bruce Springsteen, Cat Stevens, and, and, and, ..............
Rock and Roll

The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Jun 29, 2007 - 05:00) | nance wrote:I've been listening to the white album for the last few months....
So Paul and Ringo are on Larry King and Ringo sez "These days they have our music in 5.1 surround
sound and you hear all these things we buried, and they (hidden sounds) just come out."
Wow, nice job Ringo, great heads up,you just re-sold
2 million re-manned Beatles Albums for those "buried sounds." They never miss a beat, aye mate ?
George left us with some great music with the 2 "Wilbury" albums also.
The Traveling Wilbury's on Volume #1 were:
Nelson Wilbury - George Harrison
Otis Wilbury - Jeff Lynne
Lefty Wilbury - Roy Orbison
Charlie T. Wilbury Jr. - Tom Petty
Lucky Wilbury - Bob Dylan
#3 was sans Roy who played the air guitar (passed on) and was greatly missed.
