Radiohead - Creep (Jul 08, 2010 - 16:38) | Those crunchy guitars give me chills every time I hear them. One of my all time favorite songs.

Jenny Lewis - Carpetbaggers (Oct 03, 2008 - 16:12) | davin wrote: Reminds me of Tom Petty - Apartment. Except with a woman, and then some dude falling off a building and yelling in the middle.
Exactly!!
|
Jenny Lewis - Carpetbaggers (Oct 03, 2008 - 16:11) | Ok, I liked it up until the point mr costello started singing. where did he come from ????
|
R.E.M. - Accelerate (Apr 15, 2008 - 13:12) | I am lovin' this new REM album, definitely their best since new adventures in hi-fi. And that was 12 years ago!! Wow I'm getting old.

Yep, this lacks something...quality.
Go ASU! Class of 2003!
I'll have to humbly disagree with my fellow sun devil. I like this, its hooky but edgy. Must look these guys up.
Go ASU! Class of 2000!
|
Arcade Fire - Keep The Car Running (Sep 26, 2007 - 18:34) | Disappointed! How can Bill be disappointed by this album. I love it, it's more consistent and overall better than funeral, and in my top 3 best albums of this year! This particular song gets me pumped up everytime I hear it.
Come on bill, give this album some more time, it will grow on you - promise.

White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (Aug 28, 2007 - 18:02) | nu-GFX wrote: This is some incredible work on the bass. Quite understated but yet amazing! I don't like the White Stripes that much, but this song is pretty cool.
That's funny because there is no base guitar on the song. There is no base player in the White Stripes and Jack White doesn't play the base guitar anywhere on this album. It's an illusion!! Or whatever you would call an illusion of the ear.

Built To Spill - Traces (Aug 17, 2007 - 14:58) | TimeWaster wrote: mmkay, I'm about ready to buy this album. Should I? I think I will buy the CD and stop buying from iTunes; though I love the convenience of iTunes, I like having a tangible product (liner notes, real 'pressed' CD that is higher quality than lossy mp4, etc.)
well worth the money, this was my favorite album of last year, conventional wisdom and going against your mind being my favorite tracks.
|
The White Stripes - You Don't Know What Love Is (Jul 26, 2007 - 11:57) | This song is AWESOME! It's got to be one of the most accessible songs the Stripes have done, and it could be a huge single if marketed right and accompanied by a strong video.
About the album, my first thought was ho-hum, but the more I listen the more and more I like it, especially the songs '300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues' and 'Effect and Cause'. Give the album some more spins and see if your view doesn't change.

Regina Spektor - On The Radio (Jul 03, 2007 - 15:08) | jenakle wrote: I love this, I love her
minus the ah-ahah-ahah-ah-aaahh bits from her other song
those can go
noooooooo, those ah-ahah-ahah-ah-aahh's are exactly why I love her music. just like her mmm'ming and the radio-o-o-oh's from this song. she doesn't just sing the lyrics, she's part of the music, part of the instrumentation. Karen O does similar things with the yeah yeah yeahs. so distinctive, so gosh darn cute! i love it!
|
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song (May 15, 2007 - 18:48) | I for one am not happy to see Zep's songs being commercialized more and more. I just heard this song in the Shrek 3 trailer. Shrek 3!! Why!

in the crumbled financial institutions of this land
there will be tables and chairs
there'll be pony rides and dancing bears
there'll even be a band
cause listen, after the fall there will be no more countries
no currencies at all, we're gonna live on our wits
we're gonna throw away survival kits,
trade butterfly-knives for adderal
and that's not all
ooh-ooh, there will be snacks there will
there will be snacks, there will be snacks."

|
Bright Eyes - At the Bottom of Everything (Mar 07, 2005 - 14:19) | Well I'm going against most of the other posts and saying this song is awesome! This is the first track of "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" and Conor usually puts long, non-musical intros to his albums, and this one is the best of the bunch, with a cute little story about dying and starting a new life "Happy Birthday!" Here is the intro if you want to read a bit of poetry from the great Conor Oberst:
"So there was this women and she was on an airplane and she's flying to meet her fiancé sailing high above the largest ocean on planet earth and she was seated next to this man who you know she had tried to start a conversation, but really the only thing she heard him say was to order his bloody mary and she's sitting there and she's reading this really arduous magazine article about this third world country that she couldn't even pronounce the name of and she's feeling very bored and very despondent and then uh suddenly there's this huge mechanical failure and one of the engines gave out and they started just falling thirty thousand feet and the pilots on the microphone and he's saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Oh My God, I'm Sorry" and apologizing and she looks at the man and she says, "where are we going" and he looks at her and he says, "We're going to a party, it's a birthday party. It's your birthday party, happy birthday darling. We love you very, very, very, very, very, very, very much." and then he starts humming this little tune and it kind of goes like this ..."

I didn't know the kinks song until I heard it recently in a kodak commerical, and I thought, "that sounds just like green day!" I then researched and found out it was the kinks. That "picture book" is a great song though. Makes me want to buy some old kinks albums :)
