Nickel Creek - Somebody More Like You
(Oct 26, 2005 - 10:17)
Barf city.
Big Head Todd & The Monsters - Broken Hearted Savior
(Oct 14, 2005 - 10:40)
What a frigging great song.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
(Jul 21, 2005 - 11:53)
Ok, flame me. I hate Stevie Ray Vaughan. A great guitarist no doubt but I find his style annoying. There's no soul in bending up to the same piercing note 200 times in a row. Listen to Hendrix - he was great because he knew just where to stop and do something else. His loose sense of rhythm was more sophisticated and his musical reasoning was much better. This is just pale imitation that often sounds painfully naive to me.
Willie Nelson - The Harder They Come
(Jul 21, 2005 - 08:03)
Willie Rules. Great follow-up to Bob Marley. Who also rules.
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
(Jul 19, 2005 - 11:59)
I likey. Can't help it. So "bah!" to the naysayers.
Eric Clapton - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
(Jul 19, 2005 - 11:42)
Christ this sucks.
Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground (Nellee Hooper Edit)
(Jul 19, 2005 - 11:07)
Why always the sucky version? Play the album version, not this mix!
Blues Traveler - Bagheera
(Jun 01, 2005 - 06:15)
From way back - before they were blessed by the god of suck.
Billy Bragg - Sexuality
(Apr 28, 2005 - 11:11)
Christ, this sucks.
Fiona Apple - Red Red Red
(Apr 28, 2005 - 11:02)
meh, I kind of liked it. It was interesting but not something I would expect many people would enjoy. The problem with this track is that it _almost_ grooves but just kind of grates in the end. The harmonies on the rest of the album are really dense, don't move in symmetry and don't make much sense unless you're into that sort of thing. I guess I am.

superbeef wrote:

I thought that was one of the better songs on the Album... I like her other albums, but I think the reason Sony hasn't released this one is because it kinda sucks.

Fiona Apple - Red Red Red
(Apr 28, 2005 - 10:45)
Easily the weakest track on the album. Who uploaded this?
Dave Matthews Band - Digging A Ditch
(Mar 23, 2005 - 18:00)
This band is a complete waste of a perfectly good bassist and drummer.
There rest of these guys are kind of pathetic and it doesn't help that Dave's songs suck.
Oasis - Champagne Supernova
(Mar 23, 2005 - 16:48)

How do you slowly walk faster than a cannonball?

do some 'shrooms.
Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
(Mar 23, 2005 - 16:47)
This is so much better than Oasis. Takes out the "Wow I'm soooooo stoned!" childishness and presents the lyrics, which are pretty good, in a tolerable manner. I like this.
Leo Kottke - The Other Day (near Santa Cruz)
(Mar 22, 2005 - 07:55)
I love this track. That's all I have to say.
Led Zeppelin - The Battle of Evermore
(Mar 17, 2005 - 11:37)

I agree. I love LZ but this is kind of a silly track. Well done however, if you're gonna do it, go all the way.
Apollo Four Forty - The Man with the Harmonica
(Mar 15, 2005 - 11:09)
I heard the harmonica and thought "Little Fluffy Clouds" was coming up. Then I got this. Meh....
Barenaked Ladies - For You
(Feb 05, 2004 - 15:16)
Nice. Better than the stuff on their last album. Or the album before that. or...
R.E.M. - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
(Feb 02, 2004 - 13:26)
Never liked 'em. Don't know why so many do.
Sigur Rós - Svefn g-englar (original mix)
(Feb 02, 2004 - 12:41)
So true.

Pat Metheny - (Cross The) Heartland
(Feb 02, 2004 - 11:31)
I have the same feeling about this as I do about Chuck Mangione band in the '70s. So much talent totally wasted. You have to try hard to make music like this sound so monumentally generic.
Ween - Hey There Fancypants
(Jan 16, 2004 - 19:39)
I played my roomate "You $@&!ed Up" when his girlfriend broke up with him. That ruled.
No Doubt - Bathwater
(Jan 16, 2004 - 19:31)
I've always wanted to hate them but I just can't *sigh*
The Cure - Close to Me (closer mix)
(Jan 16, 2004 - 19:26)
I hate roomates. But this cut is great. Go kill your roomate.

PattonFever wrote:

totally. it makes me smile. sadly, my roomate has his annoying industrial music on so loudly that i have to hear that, too. hmph.

Don Henley - The Boys of Summer
(Jan 16, 2004 - 19:25)
The masterpiece off this album is "Sunset Grill" but this is ok too. How about "Sunset Grill?"
Lucinda Williams - Righteously
(Sep 12, 2003 - 09:38)
This sucks so hard I can't even believe it. And I can't resist it either. What the hell, I give it a 7.
Dave Matthews Band - Tripping Billies
(Sep 10, 2003 - 11:01)
It's the drummer that carries the group entirely. He should find a real band. That fiddle player is an embarrasing joke. So's the sax player.

camarkim wrote:
You are obviously not a drummer.

Bruce Cockburn - The Whole Night Sky
(Sep 10, 2003 - 10:44)
I said it once before and I'll say it again. This is hands-down my favorite Bruce Cockburn album. The track "Bermingham Shadows" blows me away every time.
Jethro Tull - With You There to Help Me
(Sep 09, 2003 - 12:23)
tg3k wrote:
Not necessarily my favorite Tull song, but it's always a pleasure to hear their stuff.

I've seen them a number of times in concert, but the Thick as a Brick tour took the cake. Ian Anderson said to the crowd "Here's a little song called Thick as a Brick". The band then proceeded to play the entire album, live, non-stop. The audience was breathless when it was all over.

That had to be the friggin' coolest thing ever. I would have killed to be there (and not be 2 years old at the time).
Beth Orton - Central Reservation
(Sep 09, 2003 - 11:37)
I like Beth Orton but Christ, this sucks. The "regular" edit isn't so great either.
Jethro Tull - Bouree
(Sep 08, 2003 - 10:20)
This is great. I was so turned off by the 'Tull of the 80's that I forgot how great they really were. I dusted of "Thick as a Brick" recently and remembered why it's one of my all-time favorite albums up there with "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"...
Audioslave - Getaway Car

Counting Crows - Round Here
(Sep 05, 2003 - 07:27)
It tries to hard. That the problem.

skymunky wrote:
Seems to me like a record committee was set the brief of arriving at an "indy" or "alternative" band sound, with a quirky yet soulful singer with a heartfelt voice, and all the 'right' ingredients, and they arrived at Counting Crows.

To me, they've just never sounded like "the real deal". Not sure why, all the 'right' ingredients are there, maybe that's just it. I always feel I'm being conned when I listen to them!

IMHO ofcourse. Some people love them.

Prince - When Doves Cry
(Aug 22, 2003 - 09:42)
Prince rules. I got dragged to a Bare Naked Ladies show (not a fan of BNL), they covered this and it was the highlight - don't likt BNL but they had the taste to do a really good cover. Ani DiFranco does an ok one as well. This album is great. I wanna hear "Darling Nikki"!

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
(Aug 21, 2003 - 08:50)
I love this stuff. Too bad I got tired of it about six years back and sold all of my Zeppelin. I'm really missing it now.
Neil Young - Leave The Driving
(Aug 21, 2003 - 08:00)
Hey man, I like this. How is it that this has a 4 right now?
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere/Wonderful
(Aug 21, 2003 - 07:31)
Ok. I've had enough this. No more.
:(
Phish - If I Could (w/ Alison Krauss)
(Aug 20, 2003 - 08:37)
Dude got busted for taking "art" photos of a 9 year old girl. Too bad. I kind of like this group.
Josh Joplin Group - Camera One
(Aug 20, 2003 - 08:16)
Generic.
This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren
(Aug 18, 2003 - 10:28)
At first, prejudice got the best of me: "This Mortal Coil"? "Song To The Siren"? *barf* After getting over that, I have to say: *barf*
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
(Aug 18, 2003 - 10:21)
Once people get over her voice they'll realize that this isn't very good.
Indigo Girls - Closer To Fine
(Aug 18, 2003 - 10:19)
I tired quick of their "sound" early on, later as their sound changed I realized it wasn't getting better. Still, this is a great track. Just smart enough to be intresting but not quite "Four years on an English degree and all I got was this crappy band"-grade. It's close however.
Alanis Morissette - Hand In My Pocket
(Aug 15, 2003 - 09:02)
Eh, ok. I kind of like Alanis I just don't want to admit it. A solid 7.
Santana - Corazon Espinado (feat Mana)
(Aug 11, 2003 - 10:26)
Suck city.
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold
(Aug 08, 2003 - 14:13)
I find this version much more effective than the original. I think it's also more effective when you're familiar with her other work. Also, realize that this recording is not NEARLY as produced as Stings albums so - the "guitar sound sucks" doesn’t cut it for criticism. This is a live recording.
Neville Brothers - Congo Square
(Jul 31, 2003 - 10:31)
Anything with a drum solo in it is ok with me.
:)
Four Tet - No More Mosquitos
(Jul 31, 2003 - 09:12)
Saw these guys and Manatoba in Philly a bit back. Both were pretty unintresting.
Michael Franti & Spearhead - What I Be
(Jul 30, 2003 - 11:36)
*Blech*
Peter Tosh - Johnny B. Goode
(Jul 29, 2003 - 13:11)
I never really liked reggae. This included. Can't we hear the real thing? There's nothing intresting about this.
Luka Bloom - Exploring The Blue

I thought it was Alice in Chains for a sec 'cause of the guitar sound. That would have been great. This is defiantly not.
Widespread Panic - Fishing
(Jul 21, 2003 - 08:20)
Whatever these guys had in 1988 they've lost it since.
Björk - Big Time Sensuality

I purchased their "Retrospective" Album a few years ago. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Not anymore. This guy screams "I'm whineing looser."

Collective Suck

What a lousy generic band.

Collective Soul - The World I Know
(Jul 02, 2003 - 11:56)
Ten kinds of *Barf*

Classic-Rock Station garbage from 1995:

"...Playing the classics of yesterday and TODAY!"

I can't take this.

Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today
(Jul 02, 2003 - 11:30)
Christ! this sucks.

Garbage - #1 Crush
(Jul 02, 2003 - 10:56)
Chick has got some serious dependency issues. :)

This song is great.
Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna
(Jun 30, 2003 - 14:11)
Like Waits, his voice is an acquired taste. But really, I think that when one hates Dylan it's because everyone's always saying that he's SUCH a genius. Well, I think he's one of the most powerful soungwrites ever, but I also understand that there’s no way to shove his music down someone else’s throat - they'll just resent it. If you ever have a chance to find him yourself, I highly encourage it.
Bruce Cockburn - Tried & Tested
(Jun 30, 2003 - 13:53)
I like Bruce but this album is a little weak. Still decent however. Also, you have to be a bit of a left-winger (like me) in order to not go nuts when you hear the multitude of statements he makes that are substantially naive. You also have to understand that much of his pondering is quazi-Christan and spiritual in nature rather than political. Not being even quazi-Christian I still appreciate the sediment of his music.
Johnny Cash - Hurt
(Jun 27, 2003 - 12:29)
Anything NIN described as "moving piece of art"... I don't even know where to start. This is so much more effective than Trent's fake-O pained whining. He's a child compared to Cash. You're sick.

Originally Posted by Platypus:

WTF??? a rating of 7.5 for this crap?

the original NIN is a truly moving piece of art.

this version, on the other hand, is just a farce. and a true slap in the face for Trent Reznor.

boo.

Steve Earle - Copperhead Road
(Jun 27, 2003 - 12:09)
Sorry, for this song is synonymous with the red-neck classic rock radio stations in Southwest Virginia where I grew up. Barf.

Merrie Amsterburg - Walking On The Moon
(Jun 19, 2003 - 10:15)
I kind of like this cover. I've no idea why the reception is so harsh. I like hearing something other than the back-to-back Calexico played here on Calexicoparadise.
Brave Combo - People Are Strange
(Jun 18, 2003 - 11:11)
Uh, ok.
Frank Zappa - Camarillo Brillo
(Jun 18, 2003 - 11:07)
Right the friggin' on!!!!

Blues Traveler - Most Precarious
(Jun 18, 2003 - 07:58)
I forgot how intolerable this group has been since 1991.

"Ruby In Paradise" is one of my favorites from Victor Nunez. I don't think he has directed anything better since - but "Ulyees Gold" was ok.
Cracker - Euro-Trash Girl
(Jun 08, 2003 - 08:52)
This song rules. How depressing. :)
Janis Joplin - Summertime
(Jun 06, 2003 - 09:42)
This woman rules. What a voice.
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Tripping Billies
(Jun 06, 2003 - 09:04)
Nice segway from the Inda Eaton but Dave is just plain bad. Just when I was digging the Eaton it seamlessly slid into this crap. I feel violated.

And I agree, Tim us just painful. He practiced his scales so much he forgot to become a musician.
The Moody Blues - Ride My See-Saw
(Jun 06, 2003 - 08:46)
Yes!!!!! From my favorite MB album!!!! Yummy Yummy Yummy. This rules.
:)
Joan Osborne - I'll Be There
(Jun 06, 2003 - 07:22)
Some harsh comments here. I really like her voice - sounds like there are a number of things to like about her more recent work. I think I pick up her last album...
:)
Bob Dylan - Rainy Day Women #12 & 35
(Jun 05, 2003 - 09:18)
Back when Dylan had humor in his music. The big missing ingredient from his stuff today.

Jethro Tull - A New Day Yesterday
(Jun 05, 2003 - 09:00)
Ian had a beautiful voice back then. So smooth.
This kicks ass.

Dave Matthews Band - Ants Marching
(Jun 05, 2003 - 08:45)
These guys failed to get any better. Totally carried by the drummer. That fiddle player is embarrasing. So's the sax. So's Dave.

Tom Russell - Out In California
(Jun 05, 2003 - 08:26)
I like.
Lenny Kravitz - I Build This Garden For Us
(Jun 05, 2003 - 08:14)
Christ, this eats it.

J.J. Cale - Days Go By
(Jun 05, 2003 - 08:02)
fun!
:)
Joe Satriani - Oriental Melody
(Jun 05, 2003 - 07:58)
Faith No More is one of my favorites. To bad they split up a few years back. With the exception of their last album they just got better and better as they went. To bad the quality was inversely proportional to marketability.

:)
Bonnie Raitt - I Feel The Same
(Jun 05, 2003 - 07:46)
This is really generic. Plus I've aquired a dislike for artists that write about nothing but anger and discontent. This is one if them. She can go away.

White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
(Jun 04, 2003 - 12:31)
Not to be confused with Striper.
:)
The Hooters - All You Zombies
(Jun 04, 2003 - 12:15)
Wow. This would really be saying something if Moses and Noah actually existed. And if the nation of Israel were really something to look up to.
:)
Jethro Tull - Reasons For Waiting
(Jun 04, 2003 - 11:58)
Tull at their best. Ian's efforts these days are seriously lacking - I wish he'd just stop. Oh well, '74s "Thick as a Brick" is still one of my favorite albums of all-time. Right after "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". Yummy.
Chuck Prophet - Storm Across the Sea
(Jun 03, 2003 - 10:58)
Run buddy! The chick is nuts! Trust me, she'll make your life hell!!!!!

Nice song however.

Annie Lennox - Don't Let It Bring You Down

Neil Young suffers from a bad case of the Dylans: The covers are often better than the origonals. This is really nice.
Willie Nelson - Blue Skies

Nice. I just listened to Eva Cassidy sing this. Lots of blue skys today.
Portishead - Roads

Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna
(Apr 30, 2003 - 09:56)
This is some of Dylan's finest. I truly despise individuals that can't get past his voice. Few, if any, songwriters have attained his level of artistry.

Dave Matthews Band - Bartender
(Apr 30, 2003 - 08:17)
Oh boy. This band is a wasted effort. Nothing interesting. Pretentious lyrics with no decent musical backing. The drummer carries this group but Dave runs around like he thinks he's some kind of talent. Go soak your head man. This sucks.
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
(Apr 29, 2003 - 10:03)
Not all stupid people hate Dylan - but all people who hate Dylan are stupid.
:)
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold
(Apr 28, 2003 - 13:33)
Eva is one of the most amazing singers I've ever heard. I wish she were still around *sniffle*. The few recordings she left are priceless.
Porcupine Tree - Blackest Eyes
(Apr 25, 2003 - 11:16)
Yes! The best track on the album.
:)
Tori Amos - Cornflake Girl
(Apr 25, 2003 - 08:04)
Nice to hear something off of "Under the Pink". Most of that album is a lot more inspired than the stuff coming from her today. I guess she's a lot like Don Henley in that her music was more effective when the memories of her life totally sucking where fresh. Sure, it's a bitter, angry album but that's what it's all about. I love Don Henley's early solo stuff as well...
:)
Charlie Hunter Quartet - More Than This (w/ Norah Jones)
(Apr 18, 2003 - 13:52)
wallpaper.
T Bone Burnett - River of Love
(Apr 17, 2003 - 12:39)
I never really liked his producing all that much and this is hardly what I would call stellar. I think Sam would have been much better off with a better producer. But since they're married I don't see that she has much choice.
:)
Leo Kottke - Pepe Hush
(Apr 16, 2003 - 12:50)
This song is great. So is Leo. 10.

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Tripping Billies
(Apr 16, 2003 - 10:17)
Christ, this sucks. I can't tell you how much I dislike Dave. Ok at first, these days he's intolerable.

Pink Martini - No Hay Problema
(Apr 15, 2003 - 17:22)
Could do without the guitar solo but I still give it a 8.
Leonard Cohen - Boogie Street
(Apr 15, 2003 - 17:04)
Man, Lenard Cohen is all kinds of cool. One of the most depressing but satisfying songwriters ever.

The Cure - Close to Me (closer mix)
(Apr 15, 2003 - 16:42)
I think Cure has been overlooked by a lot of people because of the whole "you listen to the Cure" goth stereotype thing. (I hate goths, I like Cure).
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Cast Your Fate To The Wind
(Apr 15, 2003 - 16:36)
couldn't dislike this if I wanted to.

Dire Straits - Ride Across The River
(Apr 15, 2003 - 15:52)
Yes! yes! yes!

Porcupine Tree - Collapse The Light Into Earth
(Apr 15, 2003 - 15:38)
Guess I'm a naysayer. I like this CD. I don't like this track. In fact, while much of the disc is great, the remainder is just a little callow and generally sucky.
;)
Julie Driscoll & Brian Auger - Indian Ropeman
(Apr 15, 2003 - 10:08)
This is all kinds of Kansas-grade suck.

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell
(Apr 11, 2003 - 11:26)
This rules. You cannot hate a song with the line: "This is a place where eternally / fire is applied to their body."
(pimp)
Cornershop - Staging the Plaguing of the Raised Platform
(Apr 11, 2003 - 09:42)
Now this really eats it.

Frou Frou - Shh
(Apr 11, 2003 - 09:37)
Me likes it. Yummy.

Blues Traveler - The Mountains Win Again
(Apr 11, 2003 - 09:27)
This was a cool group in 1991. Boy to they suck now.
:???:
John Mayer - Why Georgia (live)
(Apr 11, 2003 - 09:12)
This blows.

Black Box Recorder - Ideal Home
(Apr 09, 2003 - 16:51)
Bizarre. I like it!
Massive Attack - Everywhen
(Apr 09, 2003 - 15:57)
This is great programming music. Orb is my fav for that however. This guy's voice gets on my nerves - he needs to shut up. Good anyway.
:)
Willie Nelson - Blue Skies
(Apr 09, 2003 - 15:21)
That was truly wonderful. I recently picked up a CD with the late Eva Cassity singing this Irving Berlin classic. That is an inspiration as well.
Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat
(Apr 08, 2003 - 16:57)
Oh man. It's dosen't get much better than this. *sniffel*
Lisa Lynne - Still I Will
(Apr 08, 2003 - 09:51)
Wow, it was over and I don't remember listening to it.

Lucinda Williams - Ventura
(Apr 08, 2003 - 09:24)
"Lean over the toilet bowl and throw up my confession." Something about her voice saying "toilet bowl" is just disgusting.
Junior Brown - Surf Medley
(Apr 08, 2003 - 09:21)
Most things sound like a good idea until you do it: The other day I though it would be a good idea to listen to some tracks off my old (1980s) Anthrax albums. No, not a good idea.

This is the opposite. I thought "Yuck" surf-guitar. But no - surf guitar is a much better idea in actuality than it is in concept. That's a rarity. (pimp)
Kathleen Edwards - Hockey Skates
(Apr 07, 2003 - 16:28)
Whine, whine. Blah, blah.

Yuck.

John Mayer - 3x5
(Apr 07, 2003 - 06:51)
This is not good. Completely without flavor.
Shawn Colvin - (Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night
(Apr 06, 2003 - 21:07)
Lovely. This is a great, and somehow sad, song. There was an episode of Pickit Fences that featured this one (the Waits version) - it was perfect.
Dixie Chicks - Sin Wagon
(Apr 04, 2003 - 14:50)
This rules. If you can heap kudos on much of the talentless electro-garbage that gets played here you can appreciate some good performers before going "blech" because they're "chicks" or because it's country. I find thoughtlessness more prevalent in pseudo-intellectual forums like this than I do anywhere else.
Jane's Addiction - Jane Says
(Apr 04, 2003 - 07:27)
Don't know why, but this rules. :)
Eric Clapton - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
(Apr 04, 2003 - 07:21)
Originally Posted by His_DivineShadow:

Agreed in a big way. This version is missing what indeed, even Dylan himself is missing these days: humor and vitality. I love this song but this just plain stinks of generic blues rock.
The Moody Blues - Visions Of Paradise
(Apr 03, 2003 - 07:46)
This is off my favorite MB album! Love it. Great stuff!
Toots & The Maytals - Take Me Home, Country Roads
(Apr 02, 2003 - 11:56)
Nice. Real nice. :)
Widespread Panic - Traveling Light
(Apr 02, 2003 - 11:27)
A great album by WP from ~1988. Over the last 10 years they've been more and more under the influence of the god of suck.
The Moody Blues - Lovely To See You
(Apr 01, 2003 - 11:09)
I own a bunch of MB albums and I haven't listened to them in a while (years). I think I'll break them out. The music of their early years was quite dark even when their tunes were light and happy sounding - a creepy combination.
Elton John - Madman Across The Water
(Apr 01, 2003 - 10:47)
Well, at least it's not as painful as "Valerie"
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - War (and hide)
(Apr 01, 2003 - 10:41)
I like. I forgot this existed. Fun. :)
The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
(Mar 28, 2003 - 10:41)
This really eats it.
Dave Matthews Band - Grey Street
(Mar 28, 2003 - 10:39)
I don't dig. There's way too much youthful pretense in Dave for someone in his 30s. His writing feels self-congratulatory to me. Meh, the only members of the band that are worth anything are the drummer and bassist. The rest are a joke - including Dave.
Fiona Apple - Paper Bag
(Mar 28, 2003 - 10:17)
For one so young she's quite a talent. I hope it scales with time and she sticks around. I'd hate to see her disappear - as is often the case with artists that start their career as jailbait (She was 16 when Tidal was released in '96).
Philip Glass - Opening
(Mar 28, 2003 - 07:30)
Quite frankly I find most of Glass' music to be amature. There is nothing in this that strikes me as profound or lovely. He never was or will be the composer Steve Reich is when it comes to this repetitive or "minimalist" genre. But then, Reich isn't nearly as impressed with himself as Glass is.
Dixie Chicks - Sin Wagon
(Mar 25, 2003 - 09:11)
Right on. :)
The Beatles - A Day In The Life
(Mar 20, 2003 - 14:06)
Anyone that doesn’t think that the Beatles are almost single-handedly responsible for the modern "recording artist" is lost.
Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
(Mar 20, 2003 - 13:48)
All I can think of is the Ghetto Boys track: "Six Feet Deep". It has samples from this.
Alanis Morissette - Baba
(Mar 20, 2003 - 13:12)
Wow I like this. I really can't understand why so much schlock can be completely overlooked while this get brutally flamed. Oh well, a flamer's motives should always be suspect.
Doves - Words
(Mar 20, 2003 - 11:26)
Nhaaa nhaaa nhaaaaaa nha nha nha nha nhaaaaaa
ne nue nooo nuhaaaaaa!

Need I say more?

F for Whineing.

Shakti - Luki
(Mar 20, 2003 - 11:15)
Rock. This is good. Me likes it.
Patty Griffin - One Big Love
(Mar 13, 2003 - 10:26)
Me like.
Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man
(Mar 13, 2003 - 10:21)
Christ, this eats it. :???:
Joe Satriani - Always With Me, Always with You
(Mar 12, 2003 - 08:25)
Holy s**t! I haven't heard this since 1991. I really used to like this guy. Blessed by the god of suck now. But he was cool back then.
Ani Difranco - 32 Flavors
(Mar 10, 2003 - 10:56)
I really like Ani but I can't help thinking that she must be a sociopath. Having worked in the mental health field for a while, I get that sociopath vibe from her music.
:???:
Patti Smith - Summer Cannibals
(Mar 10, 2003 - 10:36)
This is awsome.
Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna
(Mar 10, 2003 - 10:06)
This is exactly what I wanted to hear.
Supertramp - Take The Long Way Home
(Mar 05, 2003 - 08:08)
Supertramp always makes me happy. This is a great song. Any comparison to REO Suckwagon is not welcome.
Sheryl Crow - Safe And Sound
(Mar 05, 2003 - 07:31)
Good stuff. I like Sheryl a lot. I'm glad my smelly hippie acquaintances don't. Then I'd know something was wrong with her. :)
Tori Amos - Past The Mission
(Mar 03, 2003 - 07:10)
This was the last decent Tori album. 1994. She hasn't made anything truly convincing since. Working on 10 years old. I was a college freshman. How depressing.
Thievery Corporation - Indra
(Mar 01, 2003 - 18:41)
This sounds right out of the soundtrack for Atom Egoyan's excellent film "Exotica". That said: this song bites.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man
(Mar 01, 2003 - 18:28)
This song give me the chills on many levels. I like it, but having growing up with "the simple" mentality (whatever that means) in southwest Virginia all I can say is that it all too often results in arrogant stupidity. But not always.
The Orb - Toxygene
(Feb 04, 2003 - 09:19)
love me some orb. this is the most "dancy" track on the album. most of it is much better than this.
Jim's Big Ego - Stress
(Feb 04, 2003 - 09:07)
Yes!
Dave Matthews Band - Seek Up
(Feb 04, 2003 - 08:59)
Wow, I usually dislike Dave. I think it's funny that everyone hates this but now I don't for once. The drummer carries this group when they don't suck. That fiddle player is a joke however. He sure plays those three notes like he means it - which only makes it kind of embarrassing.
Remy Zero - Gramarye
(Feb 04, 2003 - 07:43)
While I like it, it sounds like one of those computer programs that you add "influences" to and it "composes" something for you.
Dar Williams - I Saw A Bird Fly Away
(Feb 04, 2003 - 07:40)
Dar is a great songwriter. And she's a total nerd live. I love it.
William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (w/ Beth Orton)
(Jan 23, 2003 - 08:37)
Not sure I get the big deal about William Orbit. Really generic electronica. Let hear some Orb!
Propellerheads - History Repeating (w/ Shirley Bassey)
(Jan 23, 2003 - 07:59)
Originally Posted by billybab:

Moonraker wasn't a Bond flik! It sucked too much to even be a crappy 007 movie.
Young Dubliners - Salvation
(Jan 23, 2003 - 07:47)
Nice transition. Same key.
Dar Williams - After All
(Jan 20, 2003 - 10:49)
I saw her live here in State College PA. Very nice show - a lovely songwriter. And I really like the fact that, in person, she a complete dork. Makes me warm and fuzzy.
Johnny Cash - One
(Jan 17, 2003 - 08:42)

Damn! wrong button.

Joni Mitchell - Cactus Tree
(Jan 17, 2003 - 08:19)
I love Joni! That said, I don't care for this song. Play "Carry"!
Mark Knopfler - Why Aye Man
(Jan 10, 2003 - 12:32)

Good movie as well. What the hell ever happened to Bill Forsyth?
Tim Finn - Shiver
(Jan 10, 2003 - 10:48)
Something almost David Bowie about this... :)
Soundgarden - Spoonman
(Jan 08, 2003 - 12:09)
This rules. Cornell back in the day ('88-92) could flatten a room with his voice. He started blowing it by the time this was recorded (93). Badmotorfinger has some vocals on it that are not even human - I love that stuff.
Emmylou Harris - Deeper Well
(Jan 08, 2003 - 12:05)
This is freeking awsome. What the hell is this garbage about tuning up?
Rush - The Enemy Within
(Jan 08, 2003 - 11:57)
Not the best Rush out there but, hey!

If you want to hear some REALLY embarrasing stuff just listen to Rush's first album. Six words: "By-Tor and the snow dog"!
De-Phazz - Lullaby
(Jan 08, 2003 - 11:40)
Works for me as well. As much as I love old stuff as well, this is why I like RP. Oh! Bjork! Gotta go....
Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime
(Jan 08, 2003 - 11:37)
This song is simultaneously profoundly happy and profoundly depressing. Byrn is the king of that dichotomy.
Bruce Cockburn - A Dream Like Mine
(Dec 23, 2002 - 12:25)
Loves me some Bruce!
Joni Mitchell - River
(Dec 23, 2002 - 11:49)
Joni is one of the best. This alum (Blue) minus one or two tracks is wonderful.
Delerium - Myth
(Dec 23, 2002 - 10:46)
Enigma did this 13 years ago. It was cool back then.... :???:
Clinic - Harmony
(Dec 12, 2002 - 07:57)
I'm surprised that no one has posted that this sounds EXACTLY like Radiohead only not nearly as good. Oh well.
Pearl Jam - You Are
(Dec 11, 2002 - 09:30)
Heh, bad morning I guess. I had an ex-girlfiend that worshipped them. Enough said.
:)

Though The Edge, while no amazing guitarist without effects, is easily one of the most influential guitarists of his generation, really none of the members of U@ is near the top of my own list of individual musicans/performers--but as a band they have--much more, I would think anyone could see, than PJ--puished their own creative limits pretty far, ramping up the plaintiverCatholic longings ofg Joshua Tree first into the urban disillusion of Achtung Baby, then into the paraelectronic distances of the next 2 albums, only to return to something like their original, blues- and gospel-driven sound on their latest album. I'm a pretty big fan of PJ myself, but have to say their first three albums all sounded roughly the same--in fact, that's what I liked about them--their consistency.

And this song, while pretty cool and nice to hear, is not much of a departure from what they were doing a decade ago--and that's part of what I like about it, too.

Black Sabbath - Planet Caravan
(Dec 11, 2002 - 08:01)
Right on.
Black Sabbath - Planet Caravan
(Dec 11, 2002 - 08:01)

Neil Young - Days That Used To Be
(Dec 11, 2002 - 07:16)
I like Neil ok - but this just sucks.
Cake - Long Line Of Cars
(Dec 08, 2002 - 22:23)
It sucks. I know what they're saying but I still have to drive to work. This song rules but I'm the problem. At least I don't drive an SUV...
Pearl Jam - I Am Mine
(Dec 08, 2002 - 21:54)

Right on.
Joan Osborne - St. Teresa
(Dec 08, 2002 - 21:49)
One of those artists that you just like more and more. She's gone on to "Joan Rules!" status for me...
Jethro Tull - With You There to Help Me
(Dec 08, 2002 - 21:46)
This is good. 'Tull was great back in the day (but don't even get me started on Catfish Rising). "Thick as a Brick" remains one of my all-time favorite albums along side "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway".
U2 - Until the End of the World
(Dec 08, 2002 - 21:25)
I take every chance I can get to beat up on U2. Oh well. I like this one. I'm powerless.
Bob Dylan - All Along the Watchtower
(Dec 08, 2002 - 21:03)
I'm sorry, it's time the old man hung up his hat. He's not getting any better. "Time out of mind" was a good album but a frind of mine put it best when I was complaining that Bob's music and performances just suck these days. He said that Dylan has lost his sense of humor. Too true - he has - sadly. He should make like M*A*S*H and stop while he's still one of the all-time greatest.
Emmylou Harris - Deeper Well
(Dec 08, 2002 - 20:57)
This song is freeking awesome.
Shawn Mullins - Shimmer (acoustic)
(Nov 25, 2002 - 09:00)
Shawn Mullins is total garbage. I can tell what he's going for but he could only be an embarrassing attempt to emulate his mentors. This is truly a callow, pathetic and embarrassing attempt to evoke any sort of real feeling. please stop.
Rubyhorse - Evergreen
(Nov 19, 2002 - 16:27)
Wow, we should all just stop listening to anything new and resort to the albums we already own. They are the only things that could possibly be any good. Play all oldies! I only like it if I've heard it before! Give me the local Clearchannel classic rock station any time!

But you're right. This song sucks.
:)

Still hanging at #24 on the "Top New Tracks" playlist.

Why Bill? Why?

Thousands of songs to choose from, yet I get to listen to this one almost daily. Music is timeless, but the new-loaded playlists are not.

The Top New Tracks list is nothing more than the music drug packaged in its most efficient form. Yet another profit driven creation of the industry.

Stop pushing, Bill! (please :( )

Suzanne Vega - Blood Makes Noise
(Nov 19, 2002 - 16:20)
Not a Vega fan but this is really good. Perhaps I should become one.
Sam Phillips - Go Down
(Nov 16, 2002 - 08:51)
Sam rules.
Pearl Jam - You Are
(Nov 16, 2002 - 08:18)
I really have a problem with U2 fans. Never was there a more mediocre group in the history of rock. They are the dubbya bush of music. Pearl Jam, while not a favorite group of mine, is about 1000 times more interesting than U2 even has the collective capacity for. However U2 fans tend to be the most rabid around. At the very least Pearl Jams tries push their own creative limits - and they are often blasted for it. U2 produces schlock that is adored no matter what. Sometimes I wonder if U2 fans are even listening...

oh, and this is great song. Good to hear them again!
