Sounds like someone is sawing a guitar in half while Natalie Merchant is trying to sing.

I actually laughed out loud when I read that.  Guess I should have typed "LOL," but I hate that.

Sniff 'n' The Tears - Driver's Seat

Oh

Hell

Yes

Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait

They are to be commended for releasing the same song over and over and over again.... and making lots of money doing it.

So do you think they are doing that on purpose?  I assumed that they didn't realize that all of their songs sound exactly the same (unlike the rest of the planet).

Bryan Ferry - A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall
(Jul 30, 2012 - 11:53)

Mich Gerber - Haboob
(Jul 23, 2012 - 05:25)

Ocean Blue - Drifting Falling
(Jun 04, 2012 - 09:18)
They are "The" Ocean Blue.  Sorry, I will leave now.  Great song, great band.

Anouar Brahem - Stopover at Djibouti
(May 21, 2012 - 09:26)
During the stopover, definately try the shakes at Djibouti, they are really good.

The Who - The Rock
(Apr 30, 2012 - 05:42)

Nope, this has remained un-muted, because it's a ho-hum instrumental without the dire warbling of Townsend and Daltry - in one ear and out the other. As for your prize, get yourself photographed in that alley with a grotty parka and maybe you'll be in with a shout :)

The 'casio-style' dee-de-dee-dee in the background is just so reminiscent of the Stonehenge scene in Spinal Tap :o)

Ah, right, now the mute hits - that blasted Love Reign O'er Me is next. Love the rain, shame about the pretentious noodling and warbling...

Kate Miller-Heidke - The Devil Wears a Suit
(Apr 23, 2012 - 11:21)
He took his tie off for this pic, however.

Florence And The Machine - Heartlines

Too much

Cat Stevens - Father & Son

"See the World

Tito & Tarantula - After Dark

This song, with Tarantino's direction, and Hayek's sensuality was the most erotic scene I have ever seen in the movies. I wanted to go back to drinking/drugging after 28 yrs sober if I could find this bar: perfect place to drink tequilla and do acid.

Yes but the attacking vampires would be a major buzz-kill.

Shawn Colvin - Crazy

 Cynaera wrote:
I was about to slam this song, but then I realized that this is the stripped-down, stark, real version of it, without the "hahaha - bless my soul!" histrionics that, for me, distracted me from the actual lyrics. I like the Gnarls Barkley version for its danceability and sense of fun. And now, I like the Shawn Colvin rendition for the eerie, skeletal viewpoint.

Good song, whoever's version I hear.

I appreciate these observations.  I too really disliked that "hahaha - bless my soul" in the original because it seemed like nonsense filler, but it is an otherwise great song.

The Cardigans - The Road
(Nov 28, 2011 - 07:22)
Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but Orton does an incredible duet called Pass in Time on her Central Reservation album.

Some help would be appreciated. -Nosey in New York

Yes, and like, are these other people the same people all the time, or do different people come and go?  Are you all talking or doing something other than listening and dancing, or are you all just listening and dancing all day?  And what do you all do when that downer "Mad World" song comes on?  Certainly can't dance to that. . .

Feist - Caught A Long Wind

Hope John Tesh's lawyers don't hear this . . .

The Doors - Riders On The Storm

What a transition from Moby to this.  How does Bill do it?

Death Cab for Cutie - Doors Unlocked and Open

Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye

Is there any song more sad than this one?

Depeche Mode - Strangelove

Chris Isaak - I Wonder

that couch looks kind of dirty

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

Hell yes!  RP usually doesn't rock out like it has been this afternoon.  I have no problem with it.

Tori Amos - Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Live)

If it went any slower it would stop moving.

R.E.M. - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)

I saw the author of the "Slash and Burn" comic strip referenced in this song on Jeopardy once.

West Indian Girl - Dream

How is the rest of this album?  Thinking of buying it . . .

Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

I totally agree.  The title track is really bad.  The other tracks I have heard are better, but do not compare to their earlier stuff.

Beth Orton - Best Bit

Where did she go?  It has been awhile since her last album . . .

Porcupine Tree - Sentimental

This album cover makes a really creepy image on my i pod.  Anyway, absolutely love the drumming on this one.

their zany stuff was brilliant and their attempts at mainstream were often appalling.

Sometimes I think Tim Finn didn't quite realize how off the wall he actually is. He seems to have spent his life struggling to be accepted as normal (which his brother achieves effortlessly because he's well, he's Neil).  Tim is somehow tragically flawed but that is precisely the source of his brilliance. Without him I doubt Neil would have ever have had a career in music.

It is interesting that what is arguably Crowded House's best album - Woodface- is the one where Tim joined the band.

Beck - Loser
(Jun 06, 2011 - 11:32)
Is he saying "Drive-by body pierce?"

Younger Brother - Train
(Jun 06, 2011 - 08:21)

What an amazing album cover!

Chantays - Pipeline
(Jun 06, 2011 - 08:15)
This genre of music has always sounded "devious" to me.

Susan Tedeschi - You Need to Be With Me

 Cynaera wrote:
Sorry, but her vocals set my teeth on edge. She seems so forced and at a loss when there's a break in the music.

I am with you.  One of very few artists on RP that I absolutely cannot stand.  Why does every one of her songs have to have an extended OOOOOHHHHHHHH?

War - Low Rider
(May 23, 2011 - 13:02)
How was Lopez able to steal this song for that dumb show?  The intro of that show is the worst . . .

Florence and The Machine - You've Got the Love

 Milk5Cents wrote:
Florence really needs to come to an agreement with the The Machine on which key this song is in.

That is really funny.  Maybe the Machine should have also considered a drum machine to help hold things together.  Tough crowd here.

Big Country - In A Big Country
(May 23, 2011 - 06:56)
This is so good.  I am surprised that some two-bit billboard hip-hop "artist" has not tried to cover it.

Radiohead - Bullet Proof...I Wish I Was
(May 16, 2011 - 12:40)

Although it has been met with mixed reviews, in my opinion "King of Limbs" is an incredible album.  But then again I am in the category of people who love just about everything they release.

Kashtin - Akua Tuta
(May 16, 2011 - 08:49)
Why is Ashton Kutcher singing about Tuna?  Oh wait, my bad,  maybe need to slow up on the scotch.

Laura Veirs - I Can See Your Tracks
(May 16, 2011 - 06:37)
Like it a lot.  I think she sang back-up vocals on Dec.'s Yankee Bayonet.

Band of Horses - Factory
(May 13, 2011 - 05:32)
I like the song and the band, but the intro drum roll sounds like the flush of a toilet

Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
(May 09, 2011 - 08:31)
Amazing song.  Prophetic (and sad) album cover, too.

Bat For Lashes - Glass
(May 02, 2011 - 12:51)

Makes me want to grab my cape and padded sword

yea, no kidding, that is truly dreadful.  But I like the song, though.

Bob Dylan - Tombstone Blues
(Apr 22, 2011 - 18:22)
Love this song, one of Dylan's best, but I have always thought the drum beat was a little off (too fast).  Anyone else hear that?  Maybe it was done on purpose?

Talk Talk - Life's What You Make It

Nice try, but some songs just should not be redone.

Randy Newman - Baltimore
(Jan 18, 2011 - 07:03)
 Art_Carnage wrote:
Not a Randy Newman fan. For the last 15 years, most of his stuff sounds like a bad Scott Joplin ripoff. But this song perfectly captures what a crap-hole Baltimore is.

So true.  I temporarily lost my mind and decided to move to Baltimore from a beautiful part of the country.  Biggest mistake of my life.  This place is truly a hell-hole, and now I am stuck here.

Aretha Franklin - Think
(Jan 09, 2011 - 15:17)
enough already

Amy Winehouse - You Know I'm No Good
(Dec 27, 2010 - 12:15)
I like the beat, but I am pretty sure it is from a drum machine.  Not that this is a terrible thing, but it would probably rock out better with a human being hitting the skins.

The Frames - The Cost
(Dec 24, 2010 - 09:23)
Sounds like the snare drum head has a crack in it.  Need to get that replaced, dude.

The Decemberists - Don't Carry It All
(Dec 19, 2010 - 19:07)
First.  Awesome.  This album sounds like a must-have so far.

Neko Case - People Got A Lotta Nerve
(Dec 11, 2010 - 12:15)
Love the song, love her, but the drumming on this song seems a little off. . . but I am being overly picky

Bush - Letting The Cables Sleep
(Dec 11, 2010 - 10:29)
This band is not worthy of RP.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh)
(Nov 22, 2010 - 11:45)
these guys have always been a bunch of posers

Tonic - Lemon Parade
(Nov 22, 2010 - 09:42)
Anyone hear "Southern Cross" by CSN?

James Gang - Funk #49
(Oct 28, 2010 - 09:29)
needs more cowbell

Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
(Sep 13, 2010 - 09:27)
This was 1992, people!  This rest of the sheeple in our country were listening to Right Said Fred.

The Beatles - Dear Prudence
(Sep 09, 2010 - 05:49)
I wonder what the popular "artists" of today (i.e. Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Poops) think of themselves and their "work" when they hear a song like this  . . .

Iggy Pop - Lust for Life
(Jul 05, 2010 - 12:28)
One of the best ever, I also couldn't hear it without thinking of Trainspotting - a great placement for a song that rocks.  Then Carnival Cruise had to go and ruin it.  Now all I can visualize is a kid on a rock wall on a cruise ship.

Eagles - Journey Of The Sorcerer
(Jun 26, 2010 - 13:59)
Build song around banjo = no thanks.  Put strings around banjo no thanks = really really no thanks.  It went from nowhere to nowhere.

Crosby Stills & Nash - Southern Cross
(Jun 17, 2010 - 16:43)
And you know love will endure

And it will.

Wilco - Deeper Down
(Apr 27, 2010 - 17:36)
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is the most amazing album this band has ever made, and everything they do must measured against that.  I remember dancing around the room putting my first baby boy asleep to Jesus, Etc.  He slept soundly.

Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
(Apr 13, 2010 - 17:52)
My wife and I cleared out of Baltimoron, MD and headed straight to Colorado for a new life.  This song was our soundtrack.

Massive Attack - Pray for Rain
(Apr 13, 2010 - 17:41)
I have been a fan of this band since "blue lines" in 1990.  Then, I read a review of that album that observed that "America is not ready for Massive Attack."  I suspect that this is still true.  They are amazing through the years, although I did not like 13 floors (stairs?) all that much.

Pink Floyd - Us & Them -> Eclipse
(Feb 23, 2010 - 17:26)
Anyone ever synch up The Wizard of Oz with this album?  I did.  It was really cool, but I cannot remember what the scene was in this song.

Bjork - Play Dead
(Feb 23, 2010 - 17:23)
I just don't understand her.  It must be me.

The Police - Driven To Tears
(Feb 23, 2010 - 17:18)
Agree that he is a great drummer, but what about the band's admitted inability to keep it together live on certain songs?

Depeche Mode - Route 66 (Beatmasters Mix)
(Feb 23, 2010 - 17:11)
I don't care what anyone says.  These guys have hung in there and keep pumping out great music since I was an insecure teenager (well over twenty years ago).

Traveling Wilburys - End Of The Line
(Nov 20, 2009 - 14:18)

Every bit as relevant today as it was when they recorded it.

The Weepies - Little Bird
(Nov 19, 2009 - 18:33)
not bad, but the cover looks like the kind of thing that my son brings home from first grade.

Eagles - Hotel California (live acoustic)
(Nov 19, 2009 - 18:19)
the day before twenty years ago

Mark Knopfler - So Far From The Clyde
(Nov 19, 2009 - 18:14)
Probably a passible guitarist, but when he did "this is us" with Emmylou Harris, and just kept repeating "this is us," I wanted to hurt myself for real

Bering Strait - Porushka-Paranya
(Nov 19, 2009 - 16:05)
This makes me want to lie down in a quiet dark room and hope it ends soon.

Sean Blackman - Yerazner
(Nov 18, 2009 - 19:23)
this is why I listen to RP
