Colin Hay - Overkill (acoustic) (Jul 07, 2011 - 07:46) | I love this acoustic redux of the Men at Work original. Colin Hay's voice is so distinctive and is highlighted so well with an acoustic guitar accompaniment.

Has a good hook, interesting changes and an international feel, things that RP regularly plays. I guess I didn't submit Up Up Up, because, at the time, I couldn't decide if I should go with the EP or the Promo version. On Tuesday, I requested "Ripe" and Bill emailed back that he would give it a listen. While I personally like "Up, Up, Up" I don't hear it as an RP-like song so the EP or Promo version wouldn't matter. In that vein, I am surprised that Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" even plays on RP for that matter.

Given those rejections (and the fact that the latter is very similar to the EP version), I kinda think the only one they'd add is Go Out at Night or maybe Atlantic. Maybe they'd add the new recording if this song.
I've never doubted this band will be successful and I think their success will go well beyond this summer. They know how to mix big hooks with experimental playing. The middle of Noche is positively weird, and yet the hooks are so huge, it really doesn't matter. Then there's their their live set.
Agreed, Kev. I figured that "Ripe" would be RP-worthy. I need to temper my personal connection to the band with RP sensitivities. RP is the soundtrack to my life and would personally love GIVERS in standard rotation, but I yield to the master mixologist.

Givers - Saw You First (Jun 09, 2011 - 13:35) | GIVERS at Bonaroo Friday, June 10th then on to Jimmy Fallon on Monday, June 13th. I hope they maintain "Radio Paradise" status but I suspect they will become a summer pop sensation. Good for them...unfortunate for RP.

Thomas Dolby - I Love You Goodbye (Mar 27, 2011 - 18:08) | Yes! I remember when this album came out. I was living in Lafayette, LA at the time and was struck by the lyrics referencing Opelousas, Louisiana police and the faint Cajun fiddle during the break. Thomas Dolby "blinded me" with a really good song in "I Love You Goodbye."

Lyle Lovett - Church (Feb 08, 2011 - 14:39) | Not my favorite song from this live album (that would be "If I Had a Boat")...but...I did get to see Lyle and his large band in San Antonio shortly after this album was recorded. Fantastic!

Sam Phillips - Private Storm (Feb 08, 2011 - 13:50) | I remember in the '80's when she was known as Leslie Phillips as a christian artist. She was considered "fringe" among the christian music scene. I'm glad she found her groove.

I suspect opening Austin City Limits will grow there reputation.....though I think Austin is probably there 2nd biggest market (from what I've read, I've never seen them there). I don't known anyone that's seen them that didn't like them and most seem fall in love. Going to see them tonight. 3 hour drive to NOLA, Port 'O Call and then off to One Eyed Jacks GIVERS just signed with Glassnote records (the same label as Mumford & Sons). We will definitely hear more from them in 2011.
I saw them when they came to Austin last year. They are incredible live. So much energy! Tiffany Lamson is a great front person for the band.
