Rented John Lennon: Sweet Toronto over the weekend....a terrible DVD. Historically of interest, every act was cut WAY short.
Clapton looked VERY pensive, like he wondered if he could hold his own. When it came time to hand control over to Yoko after Blue Suede Shoes, Cold Turkey, et al., Lennon looked quite apologetic, as in, " Now here's Yoko to do her thing."
Had this been more than a mere 56 minute presentation, it could have been quite a historical gem. Giving us little snippets of Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Killer, Little Richard et al., did not satisfy. Especially with Bo's passing last year (it was last year, wasn't it?), I would have liked to see more of him playing.

The tune is "Death of Samantha" and the album is "Yes I'm a Witch". Playlisted right here on RP, where it got a 3 point friggin 8 cumulative listener rating. I think in this case the august RP listening audience just got it wrong. |

strange to me how somebody that spoke out about social issues which was a very unpopular thing to do gets called a R&R star with a fat wallet seems like if I remember right there was a war going on with a draft, we only had a few people voicing protest that could be heard popular or not

On the "R&R star" comment: by this stage in his career, true statement. On the "ugly girlfriend who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket" comment: I agree with the carry a tune part, although she redeemed herself to a certain extent with her Porcupine Tree collaboration. And, to me, not ugly, but strangely compelling, especially if you see her these days. |

A lot of years on, I still recall vividly hearing this on the radio while taking the bus to school, when it was a new Lennon song and getting Top 40 airplay. Maybe for some this is just another old tune by someone who was as flawed, or more so, than everyone else. I still can feel what it was like to be in junior high with this as truly contemporary music. There really was nothing like it. This sounds like nostalgia.
