That reminds me, do you have the deeds to any waterfront property in New York that you're looking to offload? Like for a bridge, maybe? |

Thank you very much. I concur... I don't know- seemed a little more like an elevator ride than the song name suggests. But then the doors opened, and we are definitely on the right floor. |

He is also one of the most overlooked underated Producers as well in my opinion. I know others have the same regard for him but i feel the need to point it out here after hearing this song again and reading the comments that relate to the production and arrangement. Jimmy knew what he wanted and he also knew very well how to achieve it.
from Jimmy's wikipedia article ... Page has explained that he had a very specific idea in mind as to what he wanted Led Zeppelin to be, from the very beginning: | " | I had a lot of ideas from my days with The Yardbirds. The Yardbirds allowed me to improvise a lot in live performance and I started building a textbook of ideas that I eventually used in Zeppelin. In addition to those ideas, I wanted to add acoustic textures. Ultimately, I wanted Zeppelin to be a marriage of blues, hard rock and acoustic music topped with heavy choruses — a combination that had never been done before. Lots of light and shade in the music

Yeah, one of my favorites too! But I wish Bill would re-type the album title - it still reads Led Zeoellin II after all this time!

One of my favorite Zep songs ever!
One of the best segues I ever heard was "Stairway To Heaven" into "What Is And What Should Never Be". We have all heard "Stairway" way too many times. I felt this way 25 years ago, sitting in my room up in college with the radio on, waiting for the song to end. It was a "two for Tuesday" on the local commercial FM station, and I waited to hear the next Zep song. Now, close your eyes and listen...
...and she's buying a stairway to heaven.........and if I say to you, tomorrow......
The most perfect fit...next to "Heartbreaker" into "Living Loving Maid", that is!

Exactly! Was blown away by the stereo separation of this when I first heard it. We should be allowed to rate this as an "11"!!! |

Goddess, this was the One we listened to, when it came out. All new, different, not psychedelic. So different. And I am convinced that between LZ and Iron Butterfly, they defined the zenith (LZ) and the nadir (IB) of Heavy Metal, as well as being the openers of the genre.
Excuse me, please: I didn't mean to say "genre", but I left it in, as a kind of penance for it. I feel like Lucky and Pozzo, combined. Eep!

Yeah, mine too. The funny thing is that I bought it with no idea of the music it contained. I acquired it when it was just released so I could be cool. I was in my last year of high school. The year was 1969. Yeah, I know how old that makes me. Let me tell ya, age has nothing to do with being cool.
the funny thing is i get you! i remember being in high school back in NYC, in the early 70's and guys (it was an all male school, back then) would bring their albums to class, cause the cool teachers would play them and let us discuss them. let me tell you zepplin had some magic in it! GFRailroad, not so much! |
