This song makes me sad.
Sad that I can't give it anything lower than a 1.

Ah... this song reminds me totally of hanging out by the pool of my dad's apartment complex all summer when I was about 10... this song and Cheap Trick "The Flame" were all over the radio. Man, what summer was that?

Anyway, one of the most specific-memory inducing songs I know.

I wonder what ever happened to that girl that hung out by the pool and brought me soup the day I had the flu and couldn't come out to swim...

Excellent story! Thank you for this beautiful word picture. Your comment added to my enjoyment of this song.

Actually, she's got a nice, subtle, self-deprecating sense of humor. Saw her at Red Rocks a couple of years ago, and she was funny and engaging in between the sad songs--though she also seemed shy and almost embarrased to be sharing her feelings on stage.

I thought this was a Kenny Loggins song for about 10 years of my life. That's a combination of being young at the time the song came out, and the fact that I never saw who was actually singing the song.

It's still a good tune, nonetheless...

This song continues to get overplayed on commercial radio stations around here.

It was a good song, but I am just plain sick of it now.

Even better now than it was when it came out.

I think this song came out during a time when a bunch of good new songs were coming out. Sinead, The Church, Eddie Brickell. I bought them all including Tracy's. It added such a fresh new change to the music being played at the time.

This was the first song I heard after I crashed my first car. Great song, but personally painful.

Thanks for letting me vent that...

Me TOO! I was thirteen, saw her on TV and couldn't figure it out...doesn't really matter I guess, its such a good album. I'm glad I wasn't the only one!

I LOVE this song. It never fails to make me stop in my tracks -- I suspend whatever I'm doing and listen to every word, every strum of the guitar. It's breathtaking.

Only if you are using the total of ten raters.

Every time I hear this song, I think of the hysterical SNL takeoff, which nailed this song to the wall

Ah, this song brings back some silly memories. I was pretty young when this song hit the charts -- about 12 or so -- and it took me months to figure out that Tracy was a woman. A bit of a husky voice, and, well, the video and album cover didn't really do much to reveal she was a woman either....

Curious 'bout what are the other "saddest songs ever made", on your list, Brian. On my list with saddest songs ever made, Leonard Cohen, for instance, will surely be prominent.

I hear an uplifting song where dreams are kept alive through a pretty dreary reality. 6/10

It's too bad this song got so overplayed when it was
released. Haven't heard this in a while so I can
appreciate the talent more.

while I do Like her music...This has to be the most depressing album that was ever conceived...listen to it all the way through and you're liable to put a bullet through your noggin. I highly recommend a listen (...under supervision).
