ah ... renaissance ... saw humble pie open for them at the fillmore (east) and before renaissance came on, half the place emptied out. and when they started playing, another quarter bailed. the music? or maybe just because the bathroom drug supply dried up ...

OK, the REALLY weird thing is how you worded your post exactly how I was thinking it...even the 'wow'.
RP is not only more unique than we imagine, it is more unique than we CAN imagine.

Saw them at Winterland with Loading Zone (and the inimitable Linda Tillery) and...Cream ca. 1968. Very, very cool.

Likewise. Definitiely a unique piece. I've always enjoyed hearing - dated or not.

With "trip" being the operative term. This hippy-dippy classic is getting a bit, um, "dated." That bird molted a long time ago!

Love the comments on this one...you'd think RP was playing yummy yummy yummy. These guys were quite unique for their time. Great onstage too. David LaFlamme was very dynamic. Played a great violin too. I think he was cursed with his rich operatic voice. Try "Bombay Calling" from the same album for a great instrumental piece.

Mythic and Mystic, this song reaches into the deepest callings of desire: desire of freedom emotionally, obviously, and the desire of freedom from containment of the Spirit.
I love it. More of Its a Beautiful Day... perhaps some of their darker material.

Huh, I always though this was Jefferson Airplane on a very bad trip. I can totally picture Will Ferrel doing this on SNL with his band-teacher wife.

I happen to think this song is a classic and I never get tired of hearing it. I have heard it played by regular people while waiting for a Dead concert to start and it has always served to bring strangers together. Music that makes people get together, share experiences and smile can't be that bad everyone :)

mm. picturing this played on stage in front of an 18" replica of stonehenge is the only entertaining thing about it.
