John hiatt has provided the soundtrack to the last 10 years of my life and I have been lucky enought to see him live 3 times in that time. It seems that he is an aquired taste, judging from the comments below, but give him a chance and listen to "Slow Turning" or "Bring the Family" to understand his talent. It also says alot about his writing when you realize how many people have recorded his songs.

I think the rest of the album (and most of what else I've heard of John Hiatt) isn't very interesting, but this is a great song.

The several tracks on the album include the mandolin, and this disc is the reason I learned to play the mandolin. Top to bottom, this is Hiatt's best album, along with Stolen Moments, in my humble opinion. |
