Yep, have to agree with you. Well as a fan for 42 years, maybe I'm biased.... The second best version I've heard (IMHO) is on youtube by a guy called Jesseblues who plays it on a dobro. |

Concrete Blonde do a very good remake of Hendrix's "Little Wing". Johnette Napolitano's vocals are awesome on it and really convey the emotion that Jimmy did although the guitar part is, well... it isn't Jimmy but its good. If you ever have a chance to take a listen I would recommend it.

OH-Ho, yeah, ain't that just the BEST there is?
Thank God, Jimi, and you, Bill!
And I love the way Jimi looks so righteously not necessarily stoned, but -- beautiful ly Native American in that incredible jacket in that cool cover photo...
A consoling thought:
If Jimi HADN'T lived his life exactly as he did, then he wouldn't still be VERY MUCH ALIVE in his music, and he is thus still kept alive in ways almost no long-lived man could hope to remain vital, even if during a blessed and entire active lifespan.
And Jimi himself said things like,
White collared conservative flashin' down the street,
Pointin' a plastic finger at me.
They're hopin' soon my kind will drop and die,
But I'm 'onna wave my freak flag high, high.
Wave on, wave on...
Fall mountains, just don't fall on me
Go ahead on, Mr. Business man --
you can't dress like me.
Don't nobody know what I'm talkin about...
I got my own life to live
'n' I'm the one that's got to die when it's time for me to die
So let me live my life
the way I want to...
Yeah, sing on, brother...
-- play on, drummer!
And Jimi also said,
"Once you're dead, you're made for life!"

This song is (?) 40 years old... great example of the genius creative nature that is Jimi Hendrix, sadly such a brief but brilliant star.

Yeah, and we can thank Sir Paul for that. He flew to the US as SPLHCB was in post-production (the reason Paul has his back to us in the pic on the back cover is because it isn't Paul: it's Mal Evans standing in as Paul was in the US). Anyway, Paul met the Phillips couple of the Mamas and the Papas, and they made him a director of the Monterey Pop Festival. First thing Paul did was tell them to bring in Jimi, who was huge in the UK but almost unknown in the US. Ironically, Jimi was from Seattle. |

This will be a Multiple Choice test. As always, there may be more than one correct answer:
a) you don't grok "grok" - a reference to Robert Heinlein's book (Stranger in a Strange Land)
b) you didn't have the time or interest required to follow the thread of e-conversation back to a point of understanding
c) your question was only rhetorical
d) Boo Kitty's remark was great comic relief in the midst of heated debate
Time's up. Pencils down. Pass your papers to the front.

Jimi is, obviously, a genius. Still, I can't say I ENJOY listening to everything of his.
This amazing song is always worth stopping for, however.
SRV did a pretty good note-for-note instrumental version too.
But you can't beat the original.

There are some who say that Jimi was from another planet. Thinking back to when I first heard the "Are You Experienced" album and that previously unheard of music, I'd believe it!

Clapton's version is a tough one for me to classify. It's just plain wierd. My wife picked out Sting's cover for our Wedding. SRV's version? Well, I gotta go with Jimi on this one. 11 beats out 10. IMHO, of course. |
