No--for me it's the voice. It just grates on my nerves. I can't help thinking that a few voice lessons might help a great deal and it annoys me that either they haven't or worse, she hasn't bothered to go to a voice teacher. |

This would be a much more enjoyable song if I could believe for a minute that Natalie Merchant was a woman who wanted anybody. She just seems so independent.

I wonder why some folks don't like NM? I mean, everyone has their likes and dislikes, but she does have a full and competent voice. Perhaps her subject materials?
This cut is very much Janis Joplin style, and before the JJ fans excoriate me, I have heard JJ alive and in concert twice and her quiet ballads were tear-bringing for their sincerety and warmth.
I've heard NM in concert once (Lilith Fair) and she has that kind of earth mother warmth to her voice.
Anyway, I liked this cut.
