It always interests me to see how another artists' interpretation can change my perception of a song I thought was already worked over. The Jerry Garcia Band used to play this in concert, in a much more languorous manner (Garcia did like to slow things down, way down, sometimes). But, this allowed the words to come through in a way I had never experienced. It really deepened my appreciation of the song.

I've been thinking the same for years. Good call.
I went to a memorial service last month, and this song was played. I had a very hard time keeping it together. |

Van Morrison. So under rated and under appreciated. His work is very good. I've always liked everything he has done. This album in particular is awesome. "Into the Mystic" will be played at my funeral. 10

What up folks... Just registered to comment on this.
I too wondered for years about the Jelly Roll reference in
"And It Stoned Me"... Just to get the answer right for yez...
It is a Reference to Jelly Roll Morton... The FIRST True composer of Jazz Music, especially on piano. When heard for the first time... It is said to have "Stoned" people. LOL
As you'll notice in the lyrics... It stoned me just like Jelly Roll, the reference is capitolized... Thus the name!
Peace Y'all

Amazing how some songs cannot be identified with an era. This song fits in any decade.

Just saw Van in Phoenix in September of 06'. He's still got it! A classic performer that will remain through time.

''Van performed live one night'' indeed. You are likely referring to VM's appearance in The Last Waltz, in which Van was but one of many R+R stars performing ''live.'' |

if not, it should be Haha... I was gonna say if it is, it shouldn't be.
That said, if there is an artist who deserves new words being invented to describe his brilliance, Van is it. |
