the band never lost its oomph. they just stayed true to their music and didnt feel the need to stay ahead of the pop culture curve. |

This song made me a PJ fan again... I, too, was tired of them being overplayed... but then this song came out... whoa! So intense!

funny, i was about to say the exact opposite.
loved Ten, grew sick of the band, and coulnd't take much of their music, until this album came out... and i think their recordings have only gotten better and better in recent years. excellent stuff. |

Pearl Jam is a 90's version of the Doors? Well, Eddie Vedder and Jim Morrison's voices are similar baritones, and both wrote very literate lyrics. But Pearl Jam's songs often speak to social ills, they're very involved with benefits including their kids' schools, environment, getting college students interested in voting, etc. I don't think the Doors ever had that kind of social consciousness. Jim Morrison might have challenged the Establishment, but it was all about Jim Morrison.
more interested in style than art? not hardly... these are songs of love, longing, loss... PJ's never been one to go for the quick sell or popular tunes.

Somehow I dropped off the Pearl Jam bandwagon after Vitology(sp?). Their off-stage presence just got weird, and made them seem too hyped--got sick of it...but this song is a good one...thanks for bringing it to light for me! I might just have to give this CD a chance now.

The dedication that Eddie makes to this song on some of the live shows just tugs at my cheesy/sentimental side. He dedicates it to one of the kids who died at their show in Denmark I think it was. The kid's sister told Eddie it was his favorite song. Just an amazing hard rocking tune. :D

I was so into these guys in high school (their first album) and then since about their 3rd, haven't listened to them at all. This, however, is one of their better songs from a later album, I think.

You are giving Creed too much credit. Just cause Creed's straining vocals have a remote semblance to Eddie Vedder does not make them one and the same. |
