Just started listening to RP this evening - very impressed. Already a Toad track! Never really heard of them in the UK, but once was delayed in an airport (LA?) & they were there with loads of gear; was fascinated by the name & not disappointed when I heard them!

such pretty, but sad lyrics.

His weird pronunciation of the words that call for a long A sound is annoyingly affected.

That segue from U2's One Tree Hill was amazing. I applaud you Bill. The lyrics fit right together like the continuation of a story.

Oh great ocean
Oh great sea
Run to the ocean
Run to the sea

We spotted the ocean at the head of the trail
Where are we going, so far away
And somebody told me that this is the place
Where everythings better, everythings safe
Walk on the ocean
Step on the stones
Flesh becomes water
Wood becomes bone

One of my favorite songs of all time. And I bought the CD just because I thought the band's name was cool.

The name of the band comes from a Monty Python bit called Rock Notes (a rock music newscast). A snippet...

"Rex Stardust, lead electric triangle with Toad the Wet Sprocket has had to have an elbow removed following their recent successful worldwide tour of Finland. Flamboyant ambidextrous Rex apparently fell off the back of a motorcycle. "Fell off the back of a motorcyclist, most likely," quipped ace drummer Jumbo McCluney upon hearing of the accident. Plans are already afoot for a major tour of Iceland.

I sorta remember seein' 'em at Charlie's in Ventura. Don't miss 'em, but it's a shame there's no more Charlie's

Now that I don't listen to Terradio as much I as used to, I'm starting to like the song. Got airplayed to death.

Nice sounding track, similar vocal sound to a UK band in the late 70's called Squeeze.

You imply that you've never heard of Toad before and you seem to think we've never heard of Squeeze. That made me laugh.

One of my favorite songs, by one of my favorite bands. Glad to see them touring a bit as a group again occasionally.

A little more research reveals he is, in fact, of the Reform Judaism faith and that is what influences a lot of his music:

Based on his lyrics and what I've heard him say between songs while on stage, I don't think he would necessarily label himself a Reform or "practicing" Jew. I think the Toad song "Fly From Heaven" (on "Dulcinea") made some people see them as a Christian band, though on the whole it's hard to see that. Many songs on the Toad CD "Coil" have religious/spiritual overtones, but not only Christian. (e.g., "Amnesia" has allusions to the Holocaust, and "Little Buddha" ... well, Buddhist). Glen's solo stuff has lyrics that might resonate with certain Christian themes, but with a very light touch, not like he's trying to testify, or convert anyone.
