Her Red Dirt Girl album is well worth picking up - absolutely great bass lines in it. I haven't bought Portraits, but did buy a couple of tracks - covers of Pancho and Lefty (Warren Zevon) and Here, There and Everywhere (Beatles). Definitely check 'em out! {#Notworthy}
  in case anybody's lookin for the original it's not Warren Zevon who wrote and originally recorded Pancho and Lefty. That's a Townes Van Zandt song.  Townes performance of it is unsurpassable

Emmylou's voice is so wrong that it is absolutely right.

I was determined to not like this, because Emmylou is so everywhere... But darned if I don't love the song, and I'm wondering why I didn't buy "Wrecking Ball" when it first came out. I was stupid, but I can be taught.  Emmylou Harris has talent that she demonstrates, and then she has secret talent that she keeps close and trots out once in awhile, just to remind listeners that they don't really know the full scope of her abilities. *Note to self:  NEVER play against Emmylou Harris in poker.*

The Daniel Lanois effect helps this differ from like many, many other female artists...the boomy bass part could have done a few less triplets and been less fancy and it would have been perfect. Nice song.

Each to her/his own but it seems that opinion is pretty well in the minority in these posts. Personally I love almost everything she has ever done from way back to her newest.

speaking of Brandi Carlile, I just saw her live. UNBELIEVABLE. She covered Folsom Prison Blues...so good! Wish RP would play some Brandi!
