As Brian Wilson would say, "Guitars and horns.... wow! What a sound!"

Perfect singalong, poprock song! The leadguitar sound and solo is quite similar to the one in Fleedwood Mac's Go Your Own Way. Steal/borrow(?) from the best .

Did someone do a remake of this song? Or is it a remake? Why have I heard this in another voice? Or am I delusional?

Oh, now why did you have to go and make me pay attention to the words? I was so happy just humming along.

Nice.
Reminds me of 10,000 Maniacs and Thea Gilmore.

Decent.... And probably "trite" not per the message but the mode. There are more lyrically clever songs that deliver the same message. "Trite" might be a little strong, though, because it's so dismissive.

Basically it's saying that you're owed nothing by the world, and if you do want something, you have to earn it. How's that trite?

Something about the instrumental combinations works for me -- the wah guitar backing up the blazing trumpet solo, with the good ol' Hammond back there somewhere, too. Surely not the first time this combination has happened on record, but this is a neat example of making it work.

That said, I'm not sure I'd buy the album, but this song is a pretty interesting listen.

Wasn't it 90's? I just associate this with my master's thesis.

What I said before, but I want to add that I think the message in this song is so true. Precious little in your life is yours by right and won without a fight!

How about some more recent Eleanor McEvoy stuff? I listened to her segment on FolkScene recently, and her newer stuff is very different to this (not to say I don't like this song, I do...)

She has been around for years. She is from Ireland, where she is big time.
She was trained in classical violin. She had an earring custom made so she could wear it while playing violin and not have it rub against the violin. You can see it on her first album.
She is great live. Her single before 'Precious Little', that I recall, was 'Only A Woman's Heart'. I agree with someone else that her self-titled album with the song 'Finding Myself Lost Again' is my favorite.
