Many of us who were ready for a breath of fresh air (after years of overproduced corporate "art" rock) called it that with pride.
Great set on 6/6, Bill. |

Jimmy Honeyman Scott had such a unique and fabulous guitar sound! It was so sad when we lost him -- dead at the age of 25 from cocaine-induced heart failure.

Outstanding song -- one of my favorites.
The first two Pretenders albums were magnificent. Chrissie is always phenomenal, and the excellent and quite original guitar work of Mr. James Honeyman-Scott, combined with the driving basslines and James Dean-cool of Pete Farndon, made this group one for the ages.
Honeyman-Scott is not mentioned near enough when people get to discussing great guitar players.

It only took 20 something years, but Chryssie and Patti sure showed that women could be rock band front people

Chrissie - a true rocker!
When the first Pretenders album came out in 1980, it was like an oasis in a desert of bad arena rock, tired punks and gosh-awful disco. I actually did wear ruts in that album.
People made a big deal about her being a chick who rocked when they should have made a bigger deal for just knowing how to rock, period.

??? What makes you think I need her to be a role model? I just find her unpleasant and arrogant at times. Role model? That's a huge leap from what I posted. You need to learn what the word mean, not just how to read them. |

1. You are completely wrong about that.
2. You may have a point, but she's got her own shimmy going.
3. As much as I love Ray (and have kissed his sweet face BTW), what makes you think SHE was the shafter vs. the shaftee? Ray was one of her idols of all time, I hardly think she was the one to shaft.
To shaft or to be shafted, it's a good question. |
