Sometimes a good song is a comercial song.
It's impossible to say that it's a awful song just because of the success it had.

We need to get away from the notion that just because something was commercially successful, it can't have artistic merit. This isn't the Undiscovered Artists channel, (although, there are hundreds, check out shoutcast) this is the eclectic rock channel. Anything of quality is fair game, and this song certainly qualifies.

i like to hear songs i already know and like mixed in with stuff that's new to me (including new and hard-to-find stuff by artists i'm familiar with). RP does a great job of that. i used to try to listen to "morning becomes eclectic" on KCRW in LA, and could never get into it because i didn't know a single one of the songs -- hard to get into something you only hear once! i'd say RP's ratio of about 1 song i know to 5 i don't is right on. :D |

My favorite REM tune--maybe decipherable lyrics help.

Nice-sounding song. But way overplayed. Hard to listen to this any more. (I know that's an "oops", but it looks like a yawn to me!)

I still don't like this song, although I seem to be the only one in the world who doesn't. Must've been the 80 gazillion times they played it on the radio.
I like REM and I do like this song. However, like you, I think it has been completely overplayed and now I can't listen to it anymore. |

This song brings back the good old memories from 1991. Just love it!

I knew nothing about REM when I first heard this song on the radio, and I wondered for a long time what all the fuss was about. It was only after listening to RP, and encountering all of their earlier material that I realized what a fresh and exciting band this was. This song did a great disservice to them. Yes, it was a huge hit, but compared to most of their other material, it puts me to sleep.

A very good song, although there are at least a couple others on Out of Time that I prefer. Texarkana and Country Feedback are both amazing.
