Yeah, too bad there's not much there to be interested in these days. The Police had so much more of everything in my opinion.

I'm there, too. I know it's kinda shallow, but I'm enjoying it.

I would prefer Enya. And I believe that Gordon has left the building, for good.

I thought that said "bury a luxury sedan" at first. And for some reason, that seemed oddly appropriate to me while listening to this.

I am with you 100% on all of that. Sting, whom I really enjoyed as a member of the Police, seems to have very little left other than his ego without the other two.

How about Cheb Mami on his own instead of this bastardization?

(used to love Sting, but he's gotten so cheesy and boring these days...)

I actually always found this to be very refreshing after the albums before that.

Now, i've been a long time Sting fan...I've always taken his work quite seriously, even The Soul Cages, which I found to be a bit boring to listen to, I can appreciate the level of musicianship on it and the risk he took in making it.

THIS however, I cannot make heads or tails of. It just seems so cliche to me, kind of like Enya...

I don't know, Gordon...come back to us..

Am I feeling what you feel when you hear "Freedom Overspill" on RP? I love that song, hate this one.

There should be a law against bands breaking up...

Can't really think of any artists that I like better solo than with the band they got famous with. Sting always makes me think of how good the police were and how pale his solo stuff is (with a few exceptions here and there). Summers and Copeland don't get enough credit for the police, the more I hear Sting solo, the more Im convinced they were actually the police...

Cheb Mami's voice is like nails on a chalkboard! I can't bear it! Does the man have any testosterone in his body? Or perhaps he is a eunuch?
Either way, listening to him is like chewing on tin foil. :verysorry:

This was my exact same opinion about Sting. Loved the Police, saw the Dream of the Blue Turtles tour, and haven't paid much attention since because his solo stuff just didn't connect with me.

However, this past Monday night at the last minute we got tickets and saw him in Salt Lake City. What a great show! Sting playing bass, two guitarists and a drummer. Tons of old school Police songs and not the dull assed ones either. Message in a bottle, Next to you, When the world is running down, Demolition Man, etc. A very ROCKIN' show. If you like the old stuff, check out his Broken Music Tour, you won't be dissapointed.

As far as the way earlier comment about Sting not doing anything worthy since Soul Cages.. I have to strongly disagree. One of my favorite albums of his is Ten Summoner's Tales. Obviously it did well commercially, but the songwriting is unique with some different time signature stuff, and David Sancious (sp?) is simply amazing on the keys. Vinny's drums are as tight as it gets frankly.. If you get a chance to see the video/dvd that accompanied this album, it will blow you away to see and hear how good they are..

Sting always has an incredible band backing him up, and despite what people say, I think he is really quite incredible!

Personal Favorite.

Cheb Mami's *Arabic lyrics* that accompany Sting's English lyrics are worth doing a Google for, and reading while the song is playing.

Counterpose them with Sting's, and then know that they were composed separately, without seeing Sting's beforehand.

Love to hear more RAI and Cheb Mami separately.

You know, Sting is an interesting artist. I like his voice and his bass playing is fine....BUT his songs are lacking something and I can't quite figure it out. I think he comes up with a nice groove or phrase and then just keeps playing that over, and over, and over, and over again until you change to the next song. :-k

Sometimes it seems to me like Sting have a credit card payment coming over him and need the money so he run sand make a nice song. But there are other times in wich you see him really inspired by what he wrote. This song is one of the later
