Beautiful. I'm not a big Jethro Tull fan, but I do love this song.

Bill G,
Thanks again!
Once again your selection of material is impeccable.
Love Tull, Love this album and this song.
I played flute when I was younger, and I am a huge fan of Tull, of course.
Thanks to those that suggested other Tull works.
I will check out _Benefit_, thanks to suggestions posted here.
More TULL please! :D

.... What a reason for waiting
and dreaming of dreams.
So here's hoping you've faith in impossible schemes,
that are born in the sigh of the wind blowing by
while the dimming light brings the end to a night of loving.

Jethro Tull are so eclectic that all your comments are either spot-on or way-off....

Anybody who kicks Metalica in the balls for any reason deserves a second look. I dislike Jethro Tull a little bit less today... thanks! |

Yup - jethro tull won the grammy for "best metal band" in the late
80's...on a dare from metalica, actually. Rolling Stone called
Jethro Tull "best metal band" the year previous to them winning.
Metalica went on, what can only be described, as a rampage
on the airwaves - claiming that Tull consisted of burned
out "wankers" (their term) and couldn't win anything, let
alone the title of best metal band.
Ian Anderson, who nver ever considered Tull heavy metal,
put out - as a direct response to Metalica - an album in
1989 called "Rock Island." RI had several definately heavy
metal tracks on it - and, sure enough, it won the grammy in
'89 for best metal band.
In 1990, when I saw Tull on tour here in Boston, during
their "Thick as a Brick" rendition, Tull projected up pictures
in the background of various shots of the band Metalica, with
the band members heads replaced by bricks.
It was a wonderful moment....

Yes! Another vote for Blodwyn Pig, the band that Mick Abrahams formed after leaving Jethro Tull. One track from "Ahead Rings Out" is especially good, "Dear Jill" got a good amount of airplay at the time of its release and would be great to hear on the airwaves again. Perhaps I'll burn a copy of my CD and send it to Bill. Oh yes, and concerning "Reasons for Waiting", it was at the time, Ian Anderson's favorite of all his compositions ...I couldn't agree more, I love this song as well as the entire "Stand Up" album ...ditto for "Benefit"

Tull at their best. Ian's efforts these days are seriously lacking - I wish he'd just stop. Oh well, '74s "Thick as a Brick" is still one of my favorite albums of all-time. Right after "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". Yummy.

My all-time fave Tull song. Timeless. Thanks for having it in the playlist.
Stand Up and Benefit are easily Jethro Tull's two best albums. How would one pick between them?

Classic Tull
I had purchased Benefit in 1971, followed by Aqualung and I found an earlier release a couple of years later,Stand Up, this still holds up in a strong way today.

Love the TUll baby. Thanks for mixing up a good selection of it too. Even though I have all these songs on CD, I dont pull them out as often as I used to. It's great to hear it pop up on RP.

Someone commented below that Ian played the flute all wrong.
During an interview on the Today Show (I believe) Ian said that his daughter told him the same thing and so he was learning how to do it correctly. This happens with self taught musicians (which Ian is). I have a friend that taught himself a few different instruments, in some cases his fingering of chords is not textbook either.
Be that as it may, the end result is all that matters ...
