you have to respect tom petty. sure, his stuff that's been released in the last 10 years might be a little weak, but he's got a formidable back catalog.
long after i outgrew my "classic rock" phase, i could still listen to his stuff and enjoy it. it's good, solid, no-nonsense music. and it ages pretty damn well on top of that.
oh, and i forgot to say, petty and the heartbreakers "full moon fever" was the first cd i ever bought.

Still a good song though.
LOL - I remember seeing the video for "The Waiting" when it first came out, and thinking "why doesn't this guy actually open his mouth when he sings?!" But as I grew up, came to appreciate Petty much more - this song definitely one of my favs. |

Yeah - that sums it up perfectly! Well, and that "Silence of the Lambs" visual, with the chick drumming on the steering wheel and mouthing the words with all the passion in her soul - something told me, before I ever knew the outcome, that she'd be a fighter. How could she NOT be, with inspiration like Tom Petty?
I love the old Tom Petty stuff, up to and including "Southern Comfort," and even selective stuff as an individual... Damn, as far as I'm concerned, "Something Good" was one of his best, and anything he did with the Heartbreakers was spine-snapping rock. |

Tom Petty is the only singer I can think of who always sounds like he had a cold while he was recording.
Still a good song though.

YES! Chrissie Hynde also was a saving grace....and both are still producing great music twenty years plus down the road.
Here to a real American rocker - Tom Petty!

I love this song. It is always too short. I heard it after I had been a Petty fan for awhile, and it sounded so different from the later stuff, that I was hooked. Thanks for playing it! :)
