What about when the "critics" admit they're wrong? John Medelssohn wrote a glorious, comprehensive trashing of Led Zep II in RS and retracted it a couple of issues later, "Hey, I take it all back...Jimmy Page is the best fucking blues guitarist less than 5'4"..." Mendelssohn admitted that he hadn't listened to the album without, er, chemical assistance, but at least had the guts to change his mind in public, also perhaps with chemical assistance.
Like it or not, critics are like TV weathermen. When they're "right", you nod, "I coulda told you that." When they miss, "Who anointed you, knucklehead?"
As for Led Zep on RP, why not? A smidgen of classic rock never hurt anybody. Give a little; live a little. |

Drife you suck. Enough said.
Mr self destruct, you must need some attention, because you can't be serious.
Suffer in silence if you've listened to too much crap radio. Serves you right.
I had never heard of Led Zepplin and had never heard a single track of theirs until I found IV in my Dads collection and thought it had an interesting cover. I put it on and was blown away by Plant's voice. It didn't leave my CD player for a month and is the most played CD I've ever owned/stolen from my dad. I'm glad I came across this band before I was aware of any hype surrounding them.... its all about the music.

False. I have heard this song ad nauseam on Classic Rock (formerly AOR back in the day) stations. However, it still rocks. |

To say that LZ sucked at everything they ever did is narrow minded, and frankly, childish.
An old guy (Mark Twain) once said that it is better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
Obviously, if you weren't born in 1969, you never heard the schlock that was so pervasive in the world in those days. LZ opened up a lot of doors.
Similarly, they brought the music of Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf to an America that had largely never discoverd them. Ever heard of them?
It seems like most listeners hold at least a fair amount of respect for them.
Who does drife consider to have talent? Enough of the drivel, drife.

Probably because you never listened to anything else.
Hundreds of rock albums that smoke everything Zeppelin released. |

Rolo, let me see if I understand you correctly. Because you have some 45 speed vinyl discs laying around that are older than me (38 years), then any music printed on them automatically is "a cliassic". You're absolutely right! Gosh, I've been so lost all these years. Thank you for setting me straight!
Led Zeppelin sucked during their first year, last year, and everything in between. Thank God John Bonham died and saved us the misery of another Zeppelin album! |

so this set is deja vu all over again, I take it from reading older comments below about the songs that came before this one the last few times around.
and that's not a complaint. I'm just getting a better understanding of how Bill occasionally manages to live the rest of his llife.

Hey Jimmy! We need to connect. This is the third time I've agreed with you today. Of course, I have no objectivity here. Since I discovered Jimmy Page is a neighbor (almost) and have occasion to see him pretty often, I've gone off on a Led Zep bender. And yes, I liked Led Zep in its day but, like the critics, I now consider their work transcendent genius.

Ha! I knew it! I heard "When the Levee Breaks" by Magic Slim and James Cotton, and I thought, "Now, if I were Bill, I would play some Led Zepplin after that one. It's just begging for the Zep."
... and sure enough ...
I also thought I'd hear some Elvis (Presley or even Costello ;-) ) after "Nu Suede Shoes" by Back To Base... but I was wrong there...

Led Zeppelin's music is singularly unintersting. While I'm no fan of "trained"
vocalists, Robert Plant's singing evokes feelings reminscent of those
manifested while listening to someone slowly, agonizingly, scrape their nails

More Zeppelin, but let's hear some deep tracks! how about "In The Light" or "Carouselambra" or "Boogie With Stu"? |
